Cat Meow's 3 Ginger coloured kitties!!

Past few days, got to check out Meow’s kittens. She’s our flat friendly stray cat and with her taking care of her 3 kitties, she’s got a family. Since the past 20 days, I have been spotting these kitties playing non-stop, jumping, chilling with Mom and sucking her milk in an empty plot area sealed by compound wall and covered by bushy overgrowth.

Here is a video of Meow with her kitties -

We were figuring out when to spay cat Meow, the thought of further procreational instincts of Meow creating more stray kitties in our brutal outside world, seemed uncomfortable.

Our endeavour to spay cat Meow so her procreational instincts are ebbed off

Today's snap of Meow on compound wall, now she's free to be outdoors!!

Cat population multiplies with the emergence of each new kitten who would mature in a few months time to birth further cats. There are many instances of outside cats dying, kitties abandoned , killed by attacks by other animals, vehicular accidents, cruelty by human beings.

There are also too many kittens and cats around who would never find a home, most of them face an uncertain difficult future and therefore there were no two minds on spaying cat Meow.

Besides, she’s birthed 3 kitties, which should suffice, more future continuous birthing process would sure not be good for Meow, spaying her would ensure a steady life where she can enjoy life as she does enjoying both the outdoor world and getting love from humans of my flat.

She’s a really popular cat, and that is a reason why someone from our building volunteered to sponsor for Meow’s spaying cost about a month ago. She is quite liked by people for she’s a super friendly, nice cat who visits a house on the first floor demanding food, of course she’s been asking food from a lot of households too. As she is a Calico breed of cat with black spots on her ginger coat , she is an unmistakably prominent cat.

Spaying was not a straightforward decision with the kitties under her care

However it was difficult to just pick up Meow and spay her with 3 kitties under her care, so I had waited till the end of this month. Our idea was that the kitties will be safe in that sealed compound area. They already crossed the infant stage as when they are actively playing, jumping, they should be able to eat solid food.

However, I could not determine their exact age, but they should be nearing 2 months old, however they are still sucking milk from Mom cat. However, I decided to go ahead with the plan of spaying her, although it would have been better to spay Meow when the kittens are no longer feeding from Mom cat.

Catching her on time was uncertain!!

Therefore, for the last few weeks I was preparing for capturing cat Meow. There were challenges, apart from the necessity of needing to feed the kittens who lived in a compounded sealed area with bushy overgrowth.

One was capturing Meow at least an evening before the morning of her spaying operation. This was uncertain for Meow sometimes does not come in the evenings in the first floor house where food will be kept for her and her timings in the evenings are uncertain, she would come to eat anytime between 5pm to 6.30pm and the possibility of her not turning up to eat a tall was always there.

###Home Boarding on cage for cat Meow

I always find her coming very regularly to eat in the mornings visiting anytime between 5:45 am to 6:10 am. However, capturing her then a full one day before the operation would unnecessarily keep her away from the kittens longer, plus another 1 extra day of boarding an outdoor cat in a cage seemed difficult and inconvenient.

I tried to find accommodation for her, but nothing was suitable, only option was caging her home and I had to bear the cost of hiring the boarding cage for her which was 3/4th of the expense of the the spaying operation, but most of the money would be returned after the cage is returned back in good condition.

Catching Meow on Friday Evening - Almost missed it

This was the boarding cage in which Meow has been living in my home since Friday evening when I was fortunate enough to have found her, not when she came to eat, but when she was sitting on the compound wall .

She had already finished visiting the first floor house to have her evening meal well before 5 pm, so I missed finding her on time. I thought that her spaying operation would not take place on the appointed Saturday morning yesterday.

However fortunately, I found Meow jumping from the compound wall responding to someone else’s call who wanted to pet her. After patiently waiting for this madam cat’s petting session to be over, I took her home, and closed her in a room. Prior to this on Friday morning, I already brought her to this room where she eat some wet food that I put inside her boarding cage.

Before this I had her eat wet food inside a carrier and also had her visit my home too, where she had a brief encounter with Mochu, with Mochu running away and she making fighting cat noises.

Here is cat Meow inside the cage eating food -

Caging Meow at night, fasting her for the operation

She might have escaped by the sliding window in the room, judging from how easily my two cats open sliding window and enter my balcony. However, I decided to cage her only at night post 10 pm when she needed to be fasted for 12 hrs before her operation the next day. This way I have to bear less of her meow cries and screechings after she is caged!!

Here is Meow inside her cage , sweet thing, did not make any ruscus when she was caged!! -

And Meow is back with her family - licking her kittens!!

Anyway, I want to tell you guys that Meow is spayed on Saturday and today Monday morning I released her as she rejoined her three kitties who were alone without her since her capture on Friday evening. I have a lot more to narrate which I will in another writeup. I still need to check on Meow’s wound healing, and it was not an easy decision to release her two days after her spaying operation, but I felt it was the right thing to do.

Today I witnessed Meow licking her three kittens to glory and that was proof enough for me that I took the right decision. I wish her all the best, with a life filled with enjoyment, love, contentment and peace.
