Commission #34 Dariel, Geomancer of the Creed | Digital Art

in OnChainArt4 years ago

Today we will become firm and with our feet firmly on the ground since in this new commission for @smanuels I bring you a character with the ability to control the geokinesis and geomancy, the first being the ability to control the earth with the mind and the other being divination through the stones. To use his connection to the earth, he uses his staff, with which he is able to channel his power to the ground and do whatever he wants, although his energy is not infinite.

Of course, the earth is the element of solidity and substance, so with some practice these geomancers can turn the soil into quicksand or catapult themselves into the air and soften the earth to ensure a good landing. They are strong, persistent and durable, they will stand up to any enemy, they are so dedicated to maintaining their connection to the earth that when they need more concentration, they take off their shoes to be one with their earth element, can you believe it?

-Step 1:

On this occasion, I felt like working with a little perspective, so I started by establishing a reference point in order to faithfully work the depth. The first sketch was made based on the convergent lines, so the anatomical proportions are a little forgotten in this illustration. According to the sketch and the client's specifications, I proceeded to detail the delineation better, my goal is to make a perfect lineart, but there is still a long way to go.

-Step 2:

In a new layer under the sketch, I added the flat color tones for each element, using a somewhat sandy palette, also, I consulted with the client and proposed to make the skin a light brown tone and yellow eyes, this was for practice, since I'm not used to paint in that skin tone (although it's my skin tone), also with this complexion tone the character fits better in the scenario.

-Step 3:

On top of the outline, I started the detailing of the illustration, covering brushstroke after brushstroke the guide lines, I took more emphasis on the priest's tunic, since it should have a transition between white and brown, but I also had to take into account the lighting and shadows, so I used the "soft light" fusion mode to add intermediate tones that would help me avoid a boring transition of tones. It is important to highlight the correction of the background arm, I didn't like how it looked in the sketch, so I had to run to the mirror and take a picture holding a book, there is no better reference than yourself doing funny poses.

-Step 4:

I made a big step forward in the detailing, I liked a lot the colors captured, so every two seconds I was using the eyedropper to mix tones and improve the shadows and lights. I experimented a little with the subject's hair, I wanted to simulate a short haircut almost like the army, no long locks. On the other hand, the eyes turned out exactly as I imagined them, the light yellow tone gave a greater enhancement to the look. And at last he makes his full appearance, which is located in the foreground, his design was required in a dark blue tone with sapphire decorations, after a few days of having finished the illustration, I feel that it lacks a little more illumination, but I don't want to eclipse the face of the priest, much less the tunic in which he worked so hard.

Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

See you in a future post!

I like the background and dynamic of the character, the use of perspective is pretty cool too.
