I'm catching up on posting since my break from Hive last year.

Last year I led a workshop, taking students through the steps of painting this study.

Normally I sketch the image onto the canvas, but I found in previous workshops that most of the students struggle with this and a great deal of time is lost. Thus this time around, I elected to have them transfer the image to the canvas, by tracing the image to backing paper, then thinly applying oil paint to the reverse side, laying this atop the canvas, and then drawing over the lines again to print the design to the canvas. This went smoothly, and we could then move onto more challenging things.

Below is view of the workshop in the atelier. It's a wonderful place to work in.

It was only a small group, but that keeps me extremely busy, as many of the students haven't developed certain observational skills and require my focus to help them "see" what is actually there, as most of us are operating from what we think is there.

It was a challenging workshop, but I was very pleased with what the students achieved.
