Hivechess Tournament Round 7: The usual suspects

Dear Chessfriends,

in the yesterday´s 2+1 Bullet round we were 14 players and we could welcome @kreur and @catto000 for the first time in this season. It was an intense battle with many exciting and tight games. A more exhausting hour than an e.g. 5+0, at least for me!
Funnily the first 5 places were identical to the current overall ranking, so with @jaki01 as first, @yazp (zulukill) as second, followed by myself as third, @pereu4ivatel (drakOnb) (4th) and @eniolw (who had unfortunately connection issues). I was quite satisfied with my performance, and blundered much less than last time. Also in these fast games @jaki01 is a class on his own! Congrats again!
@franciscomarval (lestatblack) could not make the hattrick but was "only" 6th today, followed by @rafaelaquino (ajedrezclub2t) (7th) and @sammy00 (migmag) with his first tournament point in this season.

from m8loss and jonbellionfan I don´t have a Hive name and thus they are not counted yet

The rules you can look up in the announcement post.

Obviosly, not much changes today, the Top 3 could extend their lead against the rest of the field and against each other, so it seems increasingly unlikely that there will be any changes in the remaining 4 rounds. I have to admit, that @yazp (zulukill) is, due to his constant good playing, a worthy second. But I will nevertheless try my best to close up to him!
@franciscomarval (lestatblack) could again improve his ranking and also @sammy00 could make a little jump.

That´s it for this week and next time we will take it more slowly, right?

By the way, brandnew on Netflix started a TV-show called "The Queen´s Gambit" about the life of an orphan chess prodigy named Beth Harmon and her struggle with drugs in her quest to become a chess grandmaster. Anybody going to watch it?

Sort:

I have ran out of syfy to watch on nexflix, so I will definitely take a look. The Queen Gambit is one of my favorite opening but I play P-K4 99 percent of the time with white.

Do I have to be expert to join the community? I just started playing again last week and I wanted to join to learn more.

No, you are welcome, the tournament is for all skill levels. Every Friday! Link will be provided in advance. Just let me know your user name in Lichess.

oh okay ! I normally play random and anon, so I'll let you know when I make an account. Thanks.

Rather often lightening games are not really of a very high quality, but at least there are some good moves from time to time:

Against @eniolw (who unfortunately had some connection issues, and otherwise would have reached a much better result in this tournament) the following position arose:

I played 24. Rf6!? now, after which black still could have reached a draw by playing 24. ... Qc6 (to be able to give some queen checks later).

Black played 24. ... b5? (also after 24. ... gxf6? 25. Rxf6 black is lost).

However, now I could finish the attack with 25. Rxh6+! gxh6 26. Rf6 1-0.

This is really great vision for a bullet game or even a rapid game. I think Aggressive and forceful is the best way to play great chess. Starting today I will be reviewing all of @jako01 and @eniolw games. Just be warned I been told that once I reach 70 years of age I get all my chess power back and can offer jaki01 and eniolw more competition. :) :) :)

I am looking forward to it!!

Nice catch!!

This isso fckin annoying. Yesterday 4 times i was listening the song on YouTube for 10-15 seconds and 4 times in a row i lost game because of 'not making first move in 10 seconds'.
Why Lichess forces me to make first move in 10 seconds? Maybe I want to spend 60 second on first move? I know that Bobby Fischer was offenly spending a lot of time on a first moves sometimes. I still can make next moves faster than enemy and even win on time. This is player's decision how he spends his time in match.
If You go AFK in 30 minutes game for 29 minutes Lichess does not care that You 'waste' enemy's time but if You waste 10 seconds at the start then NO NO NO.
This is so fckin stupid and discourages me from playing.
I think about writing post about this on Lichess Forum, do You think it is proper decision? They should at least give a choice for private tournaments like Our tournament to decide how much time is for first move, on their tournaments it can stay as it is.

I agree it is annoying, but it is a compromise. If a player went offline or just is a mean character, he lets his opponent just wait, so by the 20 second rule (20, not 10!) you can have your next match and don´t lose further time.
And since you know it, you can adapt to it, right?

I wait only 10 seconds, then I abort the game, it is no fun to wait. I am not Godot.

Thank you very much for this initiative. I am enjoying it.
