"Splatterhead"

So @darthnava made this post a few weeks back wherein they review a SNES game from 1992, The Combatribes:

One thing that caught my eye was the name of this character: Martha Splatterhead.
Delightful. What a name. Imagine.

Martha's the final boss of the game and leader of the various enemies you battle as the player. Pretty sure that's her on the box art, wearing purple.

Never played the game myself, but I'll give it a go one day, now it's on my radar. For more about it, check out what Darthnava wrote

Well that was the introduction, now here's the rest...

I saw the name, liked what was happening there, wanted to know what Stable Diffusion would make of it and now, here we are.

My last post was this same sort of thing, just with a different combination of words. More image model chicanery over there.

Turns out there's more to Martha Splatterhead than a 90s beat 'em up console game too. She's a recurring character in releases from The Accüsed, a crossover thrash band from Seattle. Their 1985 EP Martha Splatterhead, marked her first appearance, with a follow-up the next year: The Return Of... Martha Splatterhead.

Martha Splatterhead's Maddest Stories Ever Told came out two years later in 1988. She's then seen again a little later on the band's 2009 release The Curse Of Martha Splatterhead.

I guess one of the game developers was a fan?

I might have a listen one day, especially after seeing this little gem on the big wiki:

According to reviewer Jeb Branin, "I was writing for a zine in Canada called Northern Metal that reviewed the new LP The Return Of Martha Splatterhead giving it a 0.0 rating and absolutely crucifying it in the review. It is the only 0.0 review I remember ever seeing in Northern Metal. They hated it so much I knew I had to buy it. As I suspected, the album was a masterpiece of hardcore hysteria."
