3D noob tries things :> WIP ♥

Hey, everyone! I have this big project coming up so I wasn't able to draw much (also Valorant) so I decided to post about my big project instead! We're discussing 3D stuff in class right now and our finals is to make a diorama ♥ Now, Imma be real honest right now and tell you I have no idea what I'm doing =w= But ya girl gotta do what she gots to do ;-;

Here's what I got so far! I'm still lacking a lot of objects but the idea is it's a collapsing world and a traveller is unable to escape because the portal was broken... Well, clearly I'm trashing the traveller idea because I tried rigging before and it almost made me cry. So, I'm only lacking the portal and some small objects to fill the negative space and I should be done! I'm planning to add particles around the ground so that it would look like it's collapsing.

I tried to make it as low poly as I can because I don't think my laptop can handle too many shapes ;-; Soooo, I looked up how to make normal maps and it's not as hard as I thought! It was actually pretty fun sculpting stuff :> I encountered several problems when I was working on the tree (it's the first I made) but things went pretty smoothly once I figured out what I was doing wrong. (It was mostly because my uhhh shapes were awful so I had to remodel them ;-;)

I manually painted the brick patterns and added some heavy weathering to make it look detailed :> You know, to make up for my lack of polygons hehe I haven't added leaves yet because it's a lot more complicated than I thought ;-; Thankfully, my friend found a quick tutorial on how to make low poly trees!

Looking at it now, it looks kinda dull so I will be editing the colors and make it more vibrant on Photoshop maybe :>

This was made in Blender and the textures were edited in Photoshop :> It's 6am and I need sleep so excuse me for this very short WIP... I will be posting more WIPs soon! Hopefully!

Again, won't be putting my normal footer since it's just a WIP :> Or maybe I should make a different footer for WIPs hmmmm

Thought you were going to finish the Sage WIP this time. .-.

Duty calls ;w;

Ahh the collapsing world thing makes that island with the random tower on it make slightly more sense. Normally I'd suggest that the tower (and anything similar that you might also be building) was a bit too regular looking for something that was collapsing and maybe needed more broken looking edges but you're still just learning Blender which is a pretty daunting task on its own, that other kind of stuff can come later :)

though your non-planar quads are somewhat triggering my ocd XD

In the screenies you were dropping on Discord I noticed you had a normal map, in the node editor in the shading tab you can either put it on the displacement tab of the material output to make it REALLY jump out or you might be able to wrangle a math node to make it a little bit stronger which might help the texture look slightly less painted.

The painting looks fantastic though, think you pretty much nailed that old weathered stone look :) and you generally want as few polys as possible to do the job you need them to do so image maps are great.

Remember there's a bunch of us that can Blender in the Discord, just ask if you need help XD I may not be able to help with rigging from scratch (I can do basic setup with basic bone drivers but I hate it) but I've gotten half-decent with Rigify which is one of those super easy when you have some idea of what you're doing things.

Thank you so much! Yeah I originally had broken edges in mind but I guess when I was modelling it, I forgot ;w; Althoughhh, I have some bricks ready... I'm planning to put them on the sides for more ran down effects :>

I just spammed ctrl B to make new edges I'm sorry ;w;

I'll try to find the displacement thingy. I tried to make a bump map too but it didn't pan out so well 😆

I'm not sure if I'm gonna push through adding a character in it for our final project but I might try still! After the project :>

There is a displacement socket on the material output node. Think there's actual displacement nodes as well but node tree is something else I'm still trying to figure out ^_^;

Characters can be difficult so leaving it til after sounds like a good idea unless you're feeling particular confident XD

I think I've tried displacement too but it made my thingies so wonky ;-; I don't know how to fix it yet so I went with bump for now >u<

I might do the character on my own time! ^^

That's really cool ! keep it up, we want a whole scene with those assets

Thank you! I'll be sure to post the final scene ^^

Wow! This is awesome, @kothy!😍

Thank you so much!! ♥
