Thursday morning: someone dropped a DVD-ROM off at the Tinyville police station. It turned out that this was video camera footage of the Sunday morning in question … this footage showed the truck in question pulling up to the church in question and unloading the toys in question, with the two personas of interest on the scene and directing the two men who later that day would end up dead at the bottom of Hairpin Gorge. All of them could be identified.
The DVD-ROM had come with a note with the provider's real name and address, and this comment: “I'll testify if I have to, but I'm the grandson of a member of the Maximalist club. They'll hurt me for this betrayal. My grandfather doesn't know I have this footage. I hacked his security system to get it once I realized where all these toys are from. I'm really scared, but, somebody has to do something. I've got one boot out the door anyway with my family. I'll testify if I have to. Nobody should be stealing from kids like this.”
“That is a very brave young man,” Captain Hamilton said to his lieutenants. “The case is now over – solved. But, we'll try to keep the heat off him if we can. He will realize for himself what he needs to do. Meanwhile, I do believe we need another warrant.”
