"Behold!" Joey clasped a great glass bowl in both hands and whipped around, as proud as proud could be. "I offer, for our consumption, rare but delicious dragon eggs."

There were four avocados in the bowl.

"Dragon eggs?" asked Jenny, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes," said Joey, reverently, raising the bowl into the air like a cartoon monkey raising a lion cub. "Dragon eggs."

"Do they actually hatch dragons?"

"What?" Joey legitimately looked confused for all of two seconds. "No."

"Then why do you call them dragon eggs?"

"Well what do you call them?"

"Avocados?"

"Jenny!" He rolled his eyes upward, placed the bowl back on the counter, then simultaneously grabbed a 'dragon egg' and a knife. "You have no imagination."

"I'm starting to think that you have too much of one."

"Nonsense," he replied, liberating the flesh from the skin and stone. "Huh... can we eat this giant seed? Roast it like a potato?"

"Pretty sure they're toxic, Joey."

Hello! Today I wrote with yesterday's #freewrite prompt which was -- dragon egg.

It's Day 992 of the freewrite challenge and today's prompt is -- 10 bugs to eat.

You can find the challenge at the following link, and JOIN US!! 😁

It was brought to my attention last year that a lot of my freewrites involve food and eating. I was just reminded of that again today as I yabber on about avocados, hehe. Probably has something to do with me writing these things during the breakfast hours of the morning. 😅

Thanks for stopping by and having a read! 🙃

That explains it! Jenny does not have an imagination!!! If she could just see things the way Joey does, they would fall in love and live happily ever after.

Jenny was born with an imagination but some dark and sinister aspect of her transition from child to adult robbed her of her sense of fun and spontaneity. Maybe it was just sitting at a desk at school being a good girl all day that did this to her!

🥰

I have a cunning plan for just this! Which will definitely be in the Joey and Jenny novella, coming soon, eventually! 😅 I have it all plotted out. Just need to write the damned thing. Can't concentrate. School holidays.

Wow that was funny @kaelci, Joey is imagination personified while Jenny has non lol, thanks for sharing, it's awesome.

I am pretty sure the seeds are toxic too :)

I ended up investigating this after the freewrite -- apparently there are people out there who grind up avocado seeds to mix into green smoothies and whatnot, but it's not recommended as the seeds contain a fungal toxin which in high dosages can cause cancers, and death if taken in significant dosages.

People are so weird. When you think about it, nature has made it pretty clear what is edible and what is not. Fruit: smooth flesh - good, hard pit - not so good :)

I worked with a bunch of guys that would cook the avocado seeds and eat them. I was perplexed when they were mad i was throwing one of the seeds away. They were all like "you aren't going to eat that!?!" And dug it out of trash. They then went on to explain how they cook it. Still didn't sound appetizing.

Love it, hidave - reminds me of my recently becoming Catholic and it was Friday during Lent. Cracked open a tin of salmon and DISCARDED the bones... husband was horrified... he and his brothers would fight over that delicacy!

I just don't think eating too much of that would be healthy... Most seeds contain poisons that are not good for you - design by nature that you don't eat them but have the next plant grow...
