Distant Memories

in Freewriters2 years ago (edited)

The word distant can conjure up memories of places and people gone by. It can imply the huge distance created between an old life, family, friends, and old acquaintances. The distant relationships that we now have due to taking a certain path.

When looking back at distant memories, they can bring up some strong emotions that over time could not be explained. But after a while and with experience, it may be possible to recognise them.

The fork in the road is clearly seen and how far and wide you have traveled. Yet when you first set out, it was all still fresh and new. You couldn't imagine the breaking of the bonds. The search for adventure and excitement was still so fresh in your mind.

Is it noticeable because of a change from immaturity to maturity? Why the fascination with looking back at major changing points in your life? Nostalgia? Did the relationships pan out as you had expected?

The strong feelings with the word distant can be because of the passing of so much time away from familiar places and people you have spent much time with.

This could also be exasperated by you being far away from the place and people and visiting less and less often. Perhaps you are separated by sea or just a long distance.

Do you have happy or sad feelings? or even some regrets? Was your relationship as strong or sound as you had expected? What would it have been like if you hadn't taken that fork in the road? Things would have stayed the same and you could have stayed in the safety of familiarity and maintained the same relationships with people and the places you knew.

The longer you stay in the same place, the stronger your comfort zone becomes. But if some distance can change things, is it a worthwhile endeavor to get up and change direction?

What about the new path? Was it worth it? Are the feelings you get with the word distant related to your feeling that you have made the right choices? Were the new places, people, and experiences worth it? Was it worth the risk?

Are these thoughts related to your own personal changes and developments? Chasing and persuing your own goals, but did you consider all the factors and consequences and was it worth it?

Thanks for reading.

I had one tried a new path. Some relationship that I regret everytime I remember. I didn't count the cost. I was blinded and now I still feel like a huge fool. It was distance that made me realize that I was in a shit place and I needed to get out.

Sorry to hear that. It is sometimes painful to look back at these relationships and memories. Although they are important milestones in our journey and can help ground us and make us a better person.

Thank you so much @mypathtofire.
It did help me become better and wiser, I think.

Those distant memories still lingers in my mind. And everytime I seem lost, i just recall them and remind myself why I am here.m

Thanks Jane. I could certainly relate after reading your post. !ALIVE

some nice musings there - and good work with the artwork

Thank you for your feedback! I hope over time I might become more coherent! It was fun to make the pictures !CTP

With some exceptions, I often like distant memories to remain that way. The exceptions, I write about eventually. Well done.

Thank you. I think that makes sense, it is often too late to think about what if's. Sometimes my mind wonders though. !CTP

The word distant could be synonymous with lonely in my heart, it evokes an almost identical feeling... I enjoyed your musings on the multifaceted meanings of "distant"- with toy cars! hehe that was a fun touch :) thanks for sharing your thoughts on the wotw!

Ah, thanks, but I've read some great entries this time. But the good thing is that I can improve. :)

Oh yes we can always improve, that is the beauty of writing:)

Most times we make decisions based on the present moment without looking at the big picture. Well, sometimes our decisions are safe, prompt and favours us, but other times we realize that the decision wasn't worth it. This often lead to regrets.... especially when it involves breaking a relationship. That shit hurts!

The fork image design is so lovely 👌

I agree, it sure does hurt big time and sometimes we still have doubts if those decisions were right or not.

I am happy you liked the fork imagery. 😎👍 !CTP !ALIVE

Exactly 💯

One cannot be absolutely certain about ones decision, there will always be doubts. That is why it is necessary to be careful when you make decisions so that you dkbt regret your decisions, and you accept responsibilities for the decisions you make.

Thank you for the tips 🥰
