SteemPeak.com starts packing it's bags (full steam ahead on Hive)

in About PeakD3 years ago (edited)

This year PeakProjects team has put all our time and energy into PeakD.com along with some updates to PeakMonsters.com (market for Splinterlands.io)
The results have been awesome. We've added a long list of exciting new features meanwhile SteemPeak.com has stood still because 100% of our effort has been on PeakD.com and PeakMonsters.com

It has become clear that SteemPeak.com will not be a priority for our team moving forward and so we're moving forward with a plan to sunset the site.

STEEMPEAK POST 71.png
I suppose we don't really need to explain the reasons and many may be apparent but here's some of our thinking.

REASONS

  • No plans for future development

  • Our team is not interested or personally invested in the Steem blockchain anymore

  • Desire to remove distractions from our focus on PeakD.com and Hive

  • Centralized Censorship of Steem (even of our own posts)

  • We have no sense of trust that even our post on Steem won't be censored

  • Lack of solid blockchain foundations and developers

  • Distinct lack of API options which are important to a website like SteemPeak or PeakD (And remaining node operators give a censored experience)

  • Lack of business plan for SteemPeak.com or interest in creating one since our focus is on better performing PeakD.com

  • If something were to break or a HF was to occur we wouldn't have the time to fix or upgrade.

  • We don't know how to contact any blockchain or node developers on Steem anymore

  • We do not speak the primary language of Steem users so we are not able to help efficiently

  • We prefer to Leave on a good note... not leave when it breaks or something else happens.

  • Most users have moved to PeakD.com even though there are some who still post on both sites.

THE PLAN

  1. We plan to sunset the site completely at the end of 2020
  2. We will turn the site into view only mode by the end of November 2020
  3. We will make some changes that point visitors to content on PeakD.com or help content creators realize they can keep creating content here on PeakD/Hive

THE EXCEPTION

We reserve the right to change our mind if something drastic happens (this includes speeding up the process). We will let you know if this happens.

SELL??
We also are willing to transfer the site to good hands. However, to set expectations to users; that is unlikely and would not be cheap proposition to a new owner as it comes with thousands of hours worth of code... so keep that in mind for expectations. But maybe someone wants to have a steempeak style site in Korean for Steem users who remain.

visit https://peakd.com/ we have been developing new features all year long and have so much more to come.

So much more to come on Peakd.com

TIMING

Since we waited to see how this last hardfork would go down before posting this I guess this is a good place to put some of our thoughts on the last hard fork.

ADDENDUM THOUGHTS ON HF 24

There are reasons to be encouraged and disappointed. The changes of the 1st layer of the blockchain for the last 2 hardforks went relatively smoothly and it's encouraging that a couple of individuals like @blocktrades @gtg and @howo have stepped up to help on them where a much larger and more heavily payed company used to fill that roll. However we are hoping and would feel much more comfortable to see many more blockchain skilled developers step in. We would have hoped the Hive Fund would add incentive for this.

We are concerned as a company about layer two systems like HiveMind. The good news is there is still people working on this database. However, there is no denying the API experience for our users did get much worse in the last hardfork with several issues still unresolved after two weeks and many features operating at a much lower quality of performance for users. We hope to see more developers come in and be involved with HiveMind development since this is where much of the social media experience tends to live and while we look forward to the day this blockchain does much much more than social media and a few games we also hope that there are developers still around to make this a solid place for Social Media site like ourselves. We would hive.fund vote for them, promote their proposals and we would also give direct payments to these developers.

To be certain we love the Hive blockchain and all the unique features this blockchain has and the dozen+ node operators that have given Hive users access to nodes AND we have reason to be encouraged with talk of delegated resource pools and patreon like functions and changes to add language metadata to posts.
But before we jump the gun on new things our users really want communities to function again with moderation... we have been 2 weeks without one of the core foundations of the community system.

We are looking forward to great things on Hive... we just would feel more comfortable if there were less dependencies on relatively few developers.

Me to the rescue! Don't worry white man! I will buy Hivee soon. Then things get better! I see desperation in your words and wonder if you want come back to my Steemy. We can have zoom call (without chinese government member!!!) and talk. For now. Really hope my message cheers you up. Let us make business! We make Steemy Hivee great again.

Good decision, but still sad, long live @PeakD :)

Thanks for the heads up, looks like I will be visiting the other chain at least one more time to adjust my personal settings.

A sensible decision given all the factors. I was thinking that it was just a matter of time.

Good bye Steem 👋

It is important to concentrate on the important things. I support the shutdown. With the development of PeakD there is enough work to do and I am glad that you are such a great team that brings such a great value to the hive community.

There is no room for a great frontend on a centralized platform!

I agree. For now. But later I maybe disagree. And then I takeover Hivee? Sounds **just ** like Steemy. (My Blockchain). Okay. No time. Must go back and be good dictator at Bittorrent head office.

Stay Steemy

Yours Justin Scum

Steem... Who?

Awesome decision! Another wake up call to some hopeless Steem believers.

would not be cheap proposition to a new owner as it comes with thousands of hours worth of code...

Please don't sell it to the CCP/TRON even if they offer you half of China.

Time to say good bye, it was great while it lasted best front end steem didn't deserve it anymore. Lol steem plebs love their Condensor let them have it

Strong decision.
