Hi Hivers - Hola Hivers

How are my dear Hive readers? Autumn has already begun here and the trees are beginning to shed their old leaves, I really like to see in some trees the wide range of colors that can be seen, and although they still retain their natural greenness, a yellowish color is already beginning to be appreciated in the cups.

In this installment of walking through Montevideo we are going to know the famous Plaza Constitución or as it is usually called The Plaza Matriz, structurally this square has a circular pedestrian area in the center with a beautiful fountain, from there There are four paths that break down from the center to each corner of the square, it has very wide spaces, chairs and many trees that give this mythical image of yesteryear to the place.

The square is located in the Ciudad Vieja neighborhood, just a few blocks from the first place where I lived when I arrived in Uruguay, the area has an important commercial footprint and a wide variety of gastronomic places.

In ancient times this square was recognized as a main square hosting military and civil events as well as bullfights, also due to its proximity to the Main Church and important state buildings.
.

The square dates from 1871, when the fountain with its water system was established and that was when the official inauguration of the public space took place, the fountain is impressive, it is built in marble and was designed by Juan Ferrari (Italian architect) if you approach a Little did you realize that the 8 sculptures around the fountain are not children, in this case they are fauns who hug and are sitting on the body of a strange fish.
.

Between each faun we have 7 inscriptions carved in marble that enhance symbolic events in the history of Uruguay, and in the center of the fountain we have a very tall pillar with three plates as can be seen in the image, the one above being smaller and larger. Bottom larger, it is a work of art that you can spend hours detailing, it has an incredible amount of details, children, dolphins, among many other details, simply spectacular.

However, it currently fulfills a tourist function due to the important cultural mark that it houses in the history of Montevideo, it is common that in high seasons, tourist packages have this square as a mandatory stop, in addition to seeing people walk the Sarandí pedestrian street from Independence Square a journey that has no waste, you can find local businesses with crafts and souvenirs from Uruguay living in that area daily.

Around it we have 3 vehicular streets and a pedestrian street, there are places to park motorcycles and cars, but crossing Ituzaingó street we have the important Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and San Felipe and Santiago de Montevideo place that I hope to visit soon and share with you, then you can know it too.
