A Beautiful Lavender Field in a Totally Unexpected Place

Hay there!

Hay there! Today's destination post is not limited to travel but a story of a dream that manifested itself into reality. Seven years prior to our New Zealand family road trip, I gathered two of my female best friends at home for an afternoon session of creating our personal vision boards. We physically cut and pasted images that moved us and transformed them into a collage of texts and photos. A few years later, we left the country and this foam board was in one of the boxes. Needless to say, I have completely forgotten about it until recently when I found it while unpacking the boxes. Lavender is my favorite color, herb and aromatic scent. There it is at the bottom right of the board.

It didn't occur to me until I saw the lavender field in the vision board and remembered the unplanned visit to this farm. It was not part of our itinerary at all. We just happened to drive by and spotted it on the way back to our Airbnb in Twizel. Spontaneously, my husband and I decided to check it out. The rest of the family stayed inside the car for it was freezing cold that evening.

New Zealand Alpine Lavender is the largest organic lavender farm in the southern hemisphere. It's a stunning picture-worthy attraction along Mount Cook Road in Twizel, Canterbury, New Zealand. Deeply inhale and breathe in the soothing scent of lavender. Take a stroll in this fragrant field of evergreens and effortlessly feel a sense of calm and wellness. There is a regular entrance fee of NZ $5. A discount is offered when lavender products are purchased. It is best to visit it during the summer when they are in full bloom. We missed the opportunity to try their different lavender flavored ice cream.

The farm was about to close but the lady in charge was kind to stay longer and allowed us to linger around and explore the scented farm for free.

My husband hates the smell of lavender but he did this for me

Located around the bend not far from Mount Cook/Aoraki and Lake Pukaki

The story behind the creation of this farm is about labor of love and friendship, born from a vision of two men and their desire to offer the highest quality organic lavender products. Their tenacity towards their vision made it happen. The lavender field looks breathtaking against the changing colors of Ben Oahu mountain range. It's a perfect setting for pre-nuptial wedding photo shoots, don't you think?

This is an inspiring reminder for me to dream, to trust the future, to listen to that intuitive nudge and to take action towards that vision.

Do you like the scent of lavender?

Need to get some Lavender for my home!

Thank you so much for the great support (twitter, upvote and message) very much appreciated 😀

I love lavender fields and the fact they're only available for a few months a year makes them so much more special.

So sweet of your husband to take that photo with you. Who doesn't like lavender!!??

@tipu curate

Thank you so much for the support 🙂
Oh I actually didn't know that it's only available for a few months a year. Wow, I guess we were lucky then. Haha exactly - who doesn't like lavender :) so sadly no lavender candles and scented oils at home.

In the UK, they start from around now through the summer so only last for a few months, guess no one will be able to see them this year😔

You might be pushing it to light lavender candles at home, for the same reason I can't have any cinnamon at home, luckily that doesn't concern me too much.

For the same reason cinnamon is also forbidden at home , yay lucky me 😔

I so envy because for the rest of my life I never saw the lavender field :)

Hope I can travel someday to another country

Same thing for me, it was only just a dream but this experience taught me that anything is indeed possible. 🙂
