Let's travel together #167 - Zidul lui Perjovschi (Perjovschi's Wall of Stories)

in Pinmapple3 years ago

One of the best things you can do is to find out more about the place where you are living and seek for the deepest memories to understand everything better and have a full opinion about what is currently going on out there. If you don't have a wall of stories in your town, then talk with the people and listen to their stories, I'm sure they are going to say it even better than a wall would ever be able to.

It was one of those sunny days after the first lockdown wave from the beginning of the year when everything I could admire for a while, was just behind my window.
But as soon as the lockdown was picked up, I couldn't wait any longer and got out of my house just for the sake of filling my lungs with some fresh air and more memories to be created from everything I was about to explore in the place where I am currently living.
I didn't need too much time to decide what clothes I was going to wear or what direction I should follow, because since I moved to the heart of Transylvania, Sibiu, I never got bored exploring the surroundings, nor feeling like I was about to run out of places that I haven't visited yet.
And even though I crossed some places for tens or even hundreds of times, my attention was always kind of caught up by other locations instead of those which were right next to me, waiting for their story to be discovered and shared further.
But just as I said, my intention wasn't to explore something specific, but just to take a walk and enjoy the moment of being free again without being forced to stay locked in the house avoiding to break the rules or get into troubles with the police.

But as much as we enjoyed walking some good kilometres in all directions without really caring that we will end up getting lost or on some foreign neighbourhoods, it was literally impossible to forget about restrictions and what is currently still happening with the world.
Even though we were kind of numb and not realize how serious the situation is, there were countless messages written on the walls and even on the ground with the simple messages of: #stayhome, #wearmask and #keepthedistance. Just the basic things that if they were followed by more people, nothing from all this tragedy wouldn't go as high. But as long as the entire population doesn't have the minimum education for a safe living, it's hard to take care even by yourself.

As much as we enjoyed staying in the park to listen to the birds sing, admire the flowers and stay away from the traffic noise, our feet brought us again in front of an imposing wall where it's kind of rare to find the same stories twice just because it's being often updated with the news.
Traditionally called Zidul lui Perjovschi (EN: Perjovschi's Wall of Stories), the wall was there for a long while and assisted to lots of events that left countless scars in the heart and memory of many people.
And even though I crossed that place at least 2-3 times per week, I never really offered my attention to read everything it has to say until that day, when I realized that we should appreciate more what surrounds us and every little thing that is part of our lives.
From the many messages left, there is also one which compares what people wanted back in 1989: We want a better world! to what they were hoping for just 30 years later, in 2019: We want a world.
The bigger the wish is, the more we lose the hope to have back at least what we had before. Which is just another proof that we should pay more attention to our present and enjoy everything because later on, we might miss even the mess we currently live.
Another text message which kind of left me speechless thinking over and over again to it, was: Do you have your pants ripped because of the fashion or poverty?

Perjovschi's Wall of Stories measures a length of 53 meters being located on one of the main streets of the city, between the Radu Stanca National Theater and Habermann Market and it's considered the single horizontal magazine from Romania where whatever is going on out there, most likely you will also keep in touch with the news through the minimalist but representative wall arts created by the local of the city, Dan Perjovschi.

The creation started pretty hesitating in 2010 when you could notice every single drawing which was randomly drawn on the wall, while ten years letter we can barely focus on a single drawing, the number of messages being very big while it seems that the wall is suddenly not big enough to catch them all.
Since the pandemic kind of turned the whole world with the upside-down, the wall didn't wait for too long until it was entirely redesigned with the specific thematic seeing more or less rough ways of encouraging people to respect the god damn rules and not put in danger the others.
Though a thing that never changed and I doubt it will ever be erased from the wall, is the year 1989 which represent the revolution of the people from the communist period when has been organized lots of protests against the leadership for a better living and more freedom.
Unfortunately, everything turned into countless street fights, deaths and people being literally trampled by tanks for refusing to obey to the leadership's rules. Nowadays we count lots of deaths, 3321 wounded people and many hands stained with the blood of the Romanians, which are still living and ruling the country.
That was also the moment when lots of Romanians decided to leave their home country and go to a normal country for a better living, finding Romania in the Top 5 countries with the most emigrants.

The colours of the Perjovschi's Wall of Stories arts are not randomly picked, talking about black and white where white is dedicated to the clean and open-minded people who are still living in Romania, while black represents the opposite which is also why the country will never be normal and safe like the others.

Dan Perjovschi is also the artist who never stopped protesting for a better living, being implicated daily in lots of fights against the leadership, and which won many contests and organized exhibitions both international and national, always being recognized for his drawings and small texts with a very powerful message for the society.

As political as it currently seems, keep in mind that most of the drawings are always changing, capturing the first society problems, art, local identity, but also personal opinions about what is happening out there, not necessarily just in Romania. Though, a thing is clear - no matter whether you spend a few seconds or a few good minutes reading the text messages, you will end up needing some more time to reflect about the readings and appreciate more of what you have. Overall a little meditation never killed somebody, but most likely made them change their perspective and appreciate more the present.

Since in most of the countries today is the last day of 2020, I decided there is no better moment to share this little discovery from the place where I'm living and make everybody who reads it reflect for a better living in the new year that it coming up in a couple of hours.

Have a happy, safe, and healthy new year everybody!

Those walls sure have a lot written on them and it's funny how you just discovered some things.
This shows how well we should pay attention to the little things around us because they matter as well.

Do you have your pants ripped off
because of fashion or poverty

I had to pause to ponder on that writing though
It's nice that you spend some time going through that wall.

I hope to see you on your next trip 😊😉
Cheers! !wine

It's quite crazy to think 30 years ago (before you were born!!!) people are already fighting for pretty much what we want today. The only difference is that back then they were denied freedom by a regime and now its a virus.

By the way, have you introduced us to that handsome young man next to you yet? 😀

Yeah, it's really crazy and sad at the same time that not too much changed in all these years while people never stopped protesting and asking to receive their freedom (not talking about the virus now).

Haha, this is already the 2nd post where he appears lol, and he will keep appearing in some of my discoveries! He's Lucian (Luke) and he's my boyfriend, best friend and best supporter who always encouraged me to do what I love. Most likely he had a big contribution of what I am nowadays because we are talking for around 8 years and we are in a relationship for only two, heh ☺️

By the way, Happy New Year, my dear!!! Take care and have a great year ahead, full of health, happiness and safety! ❤️

I noticed him from your last post! Was waiting to see if he was to appear once off only or was a permanent fixture, seems like the latter 😉 You're a lovely couple

All the best to you for 2021 as well Gabby!!!

Haha, nice strategy! 😅
Thank you so much!! ❤️

Wait, does that mean you have a boyfriend for 2 years already but you didn´t show him to us until now? :D Just kidding, I am happy for you that you have such an amazing person by your side. You are an adorable couple :)

Haha, yep, that's right! I'm usually very silent with my private life but felt like it was the right moment to show him to my little community on hive since we had some awesome journeys together which need to be shared further :D

I see :) Awesome. Now the question is: when is he going to join Hive? :D ;)

Haha, that's actually a good question :D
