LOUVRE Abu Dhabi

In March 2007, the UAE and France signed an agreement to build an art museum and use the Louvre name until 2037. Located on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the museum is approximately 24,000 square meters, with 8,000 square meters of galleries, making it the largest art museum in the Arabian peninsula. Artworks from around the world are showcased at the museum, with the stated intent to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western art.

This is one of those museums that put so much effort into having a unique architectural design. Just looking at the building's exterior and exploring the interior already gives me a whole new exciting experience. For me, the highlight would be spending the day under the dome, watching the sunlight rays penetrates through the random gaps on the dome's roof and move as time goes on. It reminded me of what Richard Meier quoted "Architecture which enters into a symbiosis with light does not merely create form in light, by day and at night, but allow light to become form." Enjoy!
