Picos de Europa is a magnificent mountain range located in the north of Spain, stretching across Asturias, Cantabria, and León. With its breathtaking landscapes, Pico de Europa is considered one of Europe's most dramatic and beautiful mountain ranges. It is home to some of the highest peaks in the region, including Torre de Cerredo at 2,648 m. For outdoor enthusiasts, Pico de Europa is a true paradise, offering endless opportunities for adventure sports and activities, such as hiking, climbing, and mountain biking. The range is also home to a rich and diverse wildlife, including rare and endangered species such as the Cantabrian brown bear, the Pyrenean desman, and the capercaillie. The area has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years, and there are many ancient ruins and cultural sites to explore, including pre-Roman settlements, Roman roads, and medieval monasteries. The range is also home to charming villages and towns, with their unique traditions, customs, and ways of life that offer a glimpse into the lives of the local communities.
It was a day trip when we visited Picos De Europa in northern Spain. Driving from Bilbao to the national park is a leisure road trip as we drove through narrow mountainous roads passing beautiful sceneries and villages. We went to the top of Fuente Dé cable car and enjoyed the spectacular view of the surrounding landscape. We then realized that there are many famous hiking tracks in this national park, which made us plan to come back to do the hiking trails there someday. Jim Thorpe, Outdoor Adventurer and Author, once said, "The Picos de Europa are a triumph of natural beauty, and it's not hard to see why so many people are drawn to this area year after year." Enjoy!
