From Lago di Bolsena to Rome

Monterubiaglio

As I mentioned before I got offered a place to stay and ended up resting at that place a bit from what had been quiet an exhausting trip up until that point. At the end I ended up staying for three nights in the village of Monterubiaglo and if you look at the sunset view, it's easy to understand why. As I am writing this a few months have passed and I got re-invited for a birthday party. So I traveled back to Italy from Belgium to attend of course. But that's a story for later! 😄

After intense traveling for a while I took some rest in the small village of Monterubiaglo. Eventually though it was time to continue my trip, so after spending one last night at the Lake of Bolsena I hitchhiked to Rome for my last few days.

Allerona

During my stay in Monterubiaglo, during one of the evenings we decided to visit Allerona. A small sleepy town about a 30min drive from Monterubiaglo. When we arrived it was already dark outside, so I don't have the best pictures to share with you all. On the way back we found a small dog lost on the streets, clearly out there for a while, and rescued it. Right now that little dog is still living with the lovely people that hosted me. When I went to visit them again the dog looked so much happier! I don't know that much about animals, but to see such a change over a short time period really amazed me. Clearly their hospitality does not only extend to people but to all sorts of animals too! 😄

Lago di Bolsena

Eventually it was time to move on and keep going towards Rome, but before doing so I wanted to spend one night at the Lago di Bolsena. After getting picked up by a van by two French women traveling through Italy, we all decided to spend the night at the lake. Me in my tent and they in their van. We had a few drinks and jumped in for a late evening swim before turning in with the soft relaxed sound of the small waves on the lake. Honestly, I love this lake and if you go to Italy, you should definitely visit it.

P.za S. Giovanni In Laterano

After waking up I hitchhiked the rest of the way to Rome. From supermarket owners to priest who don't like the Vatican, many interesting conversations were had. I got dropped of near the cathedral of Rome. Often people think it's the basilica in the Vatican, but the cathedral is actually the Basilica de San Giovanni. The more you know!

Colosseum

With my hostel being the complete other side of Rome, I decided it would be a good walk to cross through all of Rome. Stop one being the colloseum. I have been in Rome before, so this time around I didn't enter the architectural marvel that is the Coloseum. Even so it still impresses when you walk past it. I personally prefer it more at night though, when it feels that bit more mysterious! 😄

My rating: 8/10

Caffè Aventino

After walking through the city for a while in the heat, I decided that I had deserved a cold coffee. When I saw the little Kiosk next to the Aventino Park, I knew I had found my perfect spot. Unfortunately a bird decided to take a shit on my head (I kid you not), luckily the staff was super friendly and helped me out immediately, haha! 😂 Eitherway it's a great place to relax for a bit and watch the hustle and bustle of Rome from.
