From Nancy to the Vosges mountains

in Pinmapple4 years ago (edited)

After camping out near Lac de Madine we set out towards the Vosges. Our first stop however was in Nancy as we needed a few things (sweaters, gas for the cooking fire, etc.). After walking around the city for a bit we set out to the mountains where our first stop was Lac Blanc. Curious about the whole trip? Check out my trip on my Haveyoubeenhere profile! 😄

Parc de la Pépinière

Our first stop in Nancy was this park. I loved just leisurely strolling through it and watching people going about their own strolls, taking a break from their busy days here. Shown in the picture, in the middle there is a big fountain (including signs that it's forbidden to swim in it, haha)!

My rating: 7/10

Place de la Carrière

This square is right next to the Parc de la Pepiniere and is quite impressive when you first walk on it. You can see some stunning historical architecture here and if you walk on through the square you will end up at Place de Stanislas where there are a few bars. I can imagine walking through here at night must feel like walking through some fairy tale.

Lac Blanc

After buying a few things in Nancy (heck I even forgot to bring a sweater, which you definitely want in the mountains even during summer time), we set out for the Vosges mountains on the border with Switzerland. Our first stop was Lac Blanc. When we arrived there was almost noone there. We cooked a quick meal and afterwards broke out the gin and tonic we had brought along. Watching the sunset, sipping gin and tonic next to a small campfire and staring out into the night sky as more and more stars were forming.

Eventually I fell asleep at the beach and woke up cold (and alone). My phone had died and there was no light source anywhere near! Eventually I stumbled through the dark shivering from the cold and found the tent where I collapsed once again into a deep slumber! 😅 For the record, @evavth hadn't just left me, apparently she had woken me up and told me that she went to the tent, in my sleep drunken state I had mumbled that that was okay, but when I woke up in the night I had kind of forgotten about that, haha! 😅

What I think neither of us expected was the loads of tourists that would start arriving from quite early in the morning. By the time we were up, packed our tent and made it back to the parking lot, it was filled with cars and vans. Mostly from hikers getting ready to set out! We also prepared for our own hike, but more about that later! 😄

My rating: 8/10

Yeah, just being there at the lake with the campfire and gin-tonics was sooo nice! 😄

How is the situation looking over there at the moment? I hope for you guys, you can get at least some local travel soon-ish!

we're wishing! But the soonest would probably be next year 😒😒

I'd love to visit a place like that lakeside. I miss being close to mother nature 😉👍🏼

Oh damn, that's unfortunate! I don't want to make you jelly but I already have two more small trips lined up (granted, not sure I'll be able to go yet because of Covid)!

If you ever have the chance to visit the Vosges in France, I would definitely recommend it! And I get that feeling, if I am stuck in the city too long I can feel myself getting anxious!

A charming place @martibis, the photos of the lake contrasting with the sky are really spectacular. I'm glad you were able to enjoy that trip.
