Third day of a French runaway: Hohneck

in Pinmapple4 years ago

We decided that on our third day we wanted to hike around in the beautiful nature of the Vosges. Eventually we ended up at Mt. Hohneck where some adventure awaited us! 😅

Hike Lac Blanc

After packing up our tent and getting back to the car, we grabbed our stuff and set out on a hike. The initial plan was to hike all the way to Hohneck, camp there and than see how we would get back to the car the day after. But as we didn't want to be rushed (we had to leave the day after) mid-hike we decided to instead to take make a big loop around the lake. At the start you go up up up to some beautiful view points and eventually you walk along the ridge which gives some amazing views!

Viewpoint Lac Blanc

Nearing the end of our loop we got back to Lake Blanc where we decided to take a small break and take in the beautiful sights. Yup, wasn't bad at all! 😄

Hohneck

Once we made it back to the car we drove to Hohneck and after a short 20 minute hike we found ourselves near the top. Amazed by the views and after a glass of wine taking it all in, we decided to camp out there. What we didn't expect was for the weather to turn completely. Once the sun went down the wind came at us hard, bringing rain with it. After having to put out our camp fire (was too risky with the wind) we crawled in the tent, which we barely managed to pitch in the first place. We put some heavy stones on the outer sail, just in case. The whole night the tent was flapping like crazy. Both of us drifted in and out of sleep due to the crazy amount of noise from the wind and the fear of being blown away! 😅 In the morning we woke up with the sunrise, making it super clear that it was 100% worth it and the right decision to camp out there!

My rating: 9/10
