Are you willing to give something without expecting it back?

Hi guys, how was your day? Today I want to write about a charity trip to a poor village in the mountains of Son La province.

About Son La province.

Son La is a mountainous province in the North of Vietnam. This is home to many scenic spots, historical sites, and many famous tourist resorts. This place has a cool climate, even in the harsh summer the weather here is still very beautiful, so the skin of the girls here is nice. Besides the rich families in the city, there are still many poor villages. It is a contrasting picture of rich and poor, where the rich live lavish and happy lives and the poor lead a miserable, undernourished life. I guess in every country there are rich people and poor people like that when the rich have everything in their hands, and the poor have no food, clothes, or clean water.

What is your definition of poverty?

When you look at my pictures you will understand the definition of "poor". The income of the people here is less than 1 dollar/day. Here there is no trade, there is no exchange of goods here, they still live like primitive people. The place that we visited for charity is Na Lien Hamlet - Chieng Ve Commune - Mai Son District - Son La Province.

it's a place isolated from the outside world when people here can't speak the Kinh language (that's Vietnamese, the common language of Vietnam). Vietnam is a country with 54 different ethnic groups and 54 different languages. The poor people here are ethnic minorities.

We are a group of volunteers who often do charity work in the mountainous villages of northern Vietnam, which is also my hometown. Our group has 10 people, my husband is the leader of the group, he always has charity trips to the mountains once a month. We often ask people to donate clothes, shoes, food, household items, if someone wants to send us money, we will buy more food for poor children. After our charity trips, we realized that there are many people in the world living in poverty and trauma.

The road to the poor villages in the mountains is very dangerous, so it is not possible to go there by car, we can only go up there by motorbike or bicycle. In addition, we can only go to charity in the dry season because in the rainy season the road here is very slippery, there have been many dangerous accidents here. Going to charity on such roads has caused us to fall off our motorbikes many times but we got used to it. The fog here makes us often have to go slowly, in the mist, there are many thatched houses appearing. Sometimes we encounter heavy rains, the road becomes wet and dirty, it takes us 6 hours to get through it while if it doesn't rain it only takes 1.5 hours.

Those charity trips gave us the motivation to make the next trip, looking at the children there I couldn't stop crying. They were only children but they had to work very hard, they could not go to school and had to look for firewood every day. They don't know what TV, clean water, electricity, telephone or internet is. The government and charitable communities have provided a lot of rice, agricultural products, clothes, and production tools here, many teachers have come here to mobilize each family to send children to school. However, because of low knowledge, harsh climate, and dangerous traffic, some families do not like their children to go to school. For them, food is the most important thing and everything else is not. However, there are still some children who like to go to school but they have to walk 30 km to get to school. They had to go through dangerous rocky roads and then through the woods to get to school. We admire the spirit and energy of those children. I hope those children in the future will help their hometown get out of poverty. This year, this place suffered two natural disasters, storms and floods, causing their houses, rice fields, and food to be swept away and the poor get poorer... The children here often do not have shoes to wear, nor do they have wet clothes to wear even in the cold winter. On the gravel roads they still walk barefoot, I wonder if those little feet feel pain? The medical station is also far away from this place, so people here still choose to treat their illnesses at home, which has caused danger to themselves. In short, natural disasters, epidemics, dangerous traffic, most people here do not go to school, health care, which are the big reasons why this land is still poor. In addition, children here often get married very early, we have seen many children around 13-14 years old carrying a newborn baby on their back. I thought they were sisters, but in reality it was mother and daughter. Moreover, the situation of "inbreeding marriage" still occurs here, which makes children born often with weak health, deformities or a lower life expectancy than the average person. I hope the government will have more policies on education to help them change their thinking.
