They are surrounded by lush green forests and have a beautiful atmosphere where seagulls fly above the sea. And in such places, there is also a harbor where ships dock, reminding those who go there of their longing. Today, I would like to introduce you to Çayağzı Harbor, which makes you forget all the stress and crowded environment of the city and introduces us to the beauty of nature and the sparkle of the sea.

Çayağzı Port, located in the Demre district of Antalya, is also very close to the Lycian Civilizations Museum. It is approximately half an hour away from the center of Demre. It is one of the final ports along the Lycian Way, which attracts many locals and foreigners alike. It is also one of my favorite beaches and ports, which I visit every summer when passing by the coast.

This beach has one difference from other beaches. This beach is used as a pier harbor. At the same time, it is considered a stopover point for yacht trips because it is located in a place where historical and natural beauties intertwine. The harbor here provides easy access to the Sunken City and Demre Myra Ancient City, which are only accessible by sea.

It is said that Çayağzı Port was one of the rare ports where international trade took place in the past. The ancient city of Myra, located near the port, is now known as Demre Çayağzı, and there is still debate as to whether the ruins surrounding it belonged to a different city for a long time. With its sea, natural beauty, and the ancient city nearby, this area is considered part of the Lycian region. The Lycian region consists of many ancient cities. Looking back at its thousands of years of history, it reveals the cultural heritage of different civilizations alongside its unique natural beauty. The stories left behind by the many civilizations that lived in this region, which still retain their mystery, are also quite interesting. The wealth of the Lycian region can be explained by its port, which was a transit point, and the international trade activities carried out there. The agora, grain silos, cisterns, aqueducts, watchtowers, and churches, which have proven the port's importance, especially in the grain trade, and have now been converted into the Lycian Civilizations Museum, are just a few of the structures you can see here.

Çayağzı Limanı'nın geçmişte uluslararası ticaretin yapıldığı nadir limanlardan biri olduğu söylenmektedir. The magnificent ruins visible at the mouth of the harbor are located at the foot of the hill near Demre. The first thing you see in the ruins are the aqueducts that supplied water to the city. The largest structure in the ruins is the agora, called Plakoma. Three sides of this agora are surrounded by shops, and there is a large cistern in the middle. To the west of the agora is a grain storage facility called the Granarium (Silo), consisting of seven rooms measuring 65x35 meters. All the rooms are interconnected and have the same doors on their facades.

There are several boats and sandals waiting at the mouth of the harbor around the harbor. There is a large and wide beach right next to the harbor. On the beach, which is made entirely of fine sand, you can either go into the sea and cool off, or spread your towel on the sand and sunbathe. At the end of the beach, there is a basin flowing into the sea. The water pooling in this basin cools the sea slightly. This pool of water, coming from the high mountains, winds its way through the grass and weeds like a snake before flowing into the sea. Viewed from above, its turquoise hue creates a beautiful landscape.

There is a high oval bridge made of red wooden planks between the port and the beach. You reach the beach by crossing the bridge. Looking from the middle of the bridge, you can see the river flowing into the sea again. There are ships, boats, and canoes on the river. Right next to the river is a locally designed establishment. You can get all kinds of food and drinks you need at the establishment. In front of the establishment, seating benches made of yellow oval tree trunks look very nice on the riverbank. There is even a camping area on the green lawn a little further ahead of the establishment. Here you can rent tents and caravans for the day. Rowing boat trips are available on the river during the summer months.
