Welcome back Hiveians! How have you been? If you're like me in the North, Winter is starting to leave and the temperatures are beginning to climb! What a long winter it's been, especially because of the pandemic. How was yours?
Today we'll pick up where we left off last time on the Island of Culebra! A short recap, we just got there and had about half a day to explore a bit. Today will be our mostly full day here. Let's get into it!
It's 5am and I'm laying awake in bed, awoken by the wild roosters outside cawing. No need for an alarm clock at least. We get up and prepare for our sunrise adventure, heading to the same beach as the night before to experience the sunrise.
We drive about 15 minutes or so to get there. The lot is empty and we're the first ones to arrive. I immediately take advantage of the opportunity to get the drone up and grab some clips and photos.
And not a moment too soon, as the sun just begins to break the horizon!
After that, I walked the beach a bit to explore and grab a few shots.
And of course take a selfie.
What a beautiful sun kissed beach.
Then we headed back to the parking lot, I took one more shot then we jumped into the Jeep to head to our next destination.
On our way back, I saw this beautiful scene and knew I had to grab a shot, so we stopped in the middle of the road so I could hop out.

After that, we made the short ride back to our airbnb and prepped for our next outing, this time to Flamanco Beach, one of the top 10 beaches in the world!
We pack up and head out. We get there and see the lot is closed down, so we do as the other cars and park on the side of the road and head in through a trail, and oh man, what a beach!
So other than being just an amazingly beautiful beach with almost like a wave pool level of waves and gorgeous waters, there's another unique characteristic of this beach. TANKS. Yes, there are a few tanks that were left here from military training drills I believe, how cool!
We hung out here for a bit, did some amazing body surfing and also made friends with some guys from Alabama. I got a few videos on my GoPro but didn't realize I didn't have the lock setting on to avoid it being turned on by the water, so my battery died much quicker than I planned. Bummer.
After that, we had one last thing to do on the island, go snorkeling! So we went to the beach we were told is best for it. After getting there we see a big map and warnings of these black needle sea urchins and how they can be very dangerous. Awesome. We jump in and start looking around for sea life! And what's the first thing I find? This.
I mean, it's beautiful, but jeez, is Puerto Rico trying to kill me?
We swim around and find some cool fish and then I spot something moving!
Stingray! So cool! After that, we swam around some more checking out the corals and the fish.
After swimming for a while, we decided to call it a day and start to dry off. But then I spot something in the water? What was it? I grab my goggles and jump back in to investigate, and found this guy!
So cool! After that, we headed back to the city, did one more little drive around then returned the rental Jeep and headed to the ferry port. There was a homeless cat there going around rubbing people, so I gave him some of the food I had. We boarded the boat and began our journey back to the main island of Puerto Rico.
After about 45 minutes, we were pretty much back in Ceiba. As we pulled in we could see our destination for the next day; El Yunque!
Culebra was amazing and beautiful and I hope to return there for more time sooner rather later! What an amazing place!
