Mount climbers must be familiar with the term Seven Summit. The term put forward by Richard Bass is intended to refer to the highest mountain peaks on the seven continents. Initially, Mount Kosciuszko in Australia was included in the Seven Summit list for the category of the highest mountain on the Australian continent. However, Reinhold Messner said that Carstensz Pyramid (mountain Jaya) in Papua, Indonesia was included in the list of seven summits replacing Kosciuszko. So, currently the seven world summits include; Kilimanjaro, African continent. Vinson Massif, Antarctica. Everest, the continent of Asia. Elbrus, continental Europe. Mount McKinley, the continent of North America, and Acocangua, the continent of South America.

If the list above is for the seven world summits, then Indonesia also has its own list for the Seven Summits Indonesia. Seven summits in Indonesia include; Carstensz Pyramid, Kerinci, Rinjani, Semeru, Latimojong, Binaiya, and Bukit Raya.

Today I want to tell you about one of the above Semeru! The trip I did in 2017 ago with my friends.

Semeru or commonly called Mahameru is the highest mountain on the island of Java, therefore Semeru earned the nickname as the roof of the island of Java. Having a height of 3, 676 meters above the sea, Semeru is a conical volcano.
Administratively, Semeru is included in two districts, Malang district and Lumajang district. Semeru is included in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.

RANU PANI BASECAM

The route that is widely used by climbers is the Ranu Pani basecamp which is located in the village of Ranu Pani, Senduro sub-district, Lumajang district.

Participants are required to register a SIMAKSI (permit to enter the conservation area) which is available at the basecamp. Purchase of tickets, inspection of climbing equipment such as tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, and logistics are done here. The participants will receive directions from the committee for thirty minutes. They will explain the route, the terrain to be traversed, the shelter where to stop, what can and can't to do during the climb. Also keep reminding the participants to be careful, and go home safely.

After the registration procedure is complete, climbers are allowed to travel.

Shelters for rest

LANDENGAN DOWO (shelter 1), from Ranu Pani basecamp, it will take you sixty minutes.

WATU REJENG (shelter 2), can be reached in seventy minutes from Landengan Dowo. Shelter 3 is still on the Watu Rejeng route, these two shelters do have a long distance to reach the next shelter.

SHELTER 4. Here the distance from the Ranu Kumbolo campground is very close. You can even enjoy the landscape of Ranu Kumbolo, a hidden paradise on Mount Semeru.

HIDDEN PARADISE

Ranu Kumbolo is a favorite place for Semeru climbers. The water in this lake is clear and can be drunk directly or cooked first. Lake Ranu Kumbolo is very sacred by the Tengger tribe and Hindus. Therefore, climbers are strictly prohibited from bathing in this lake, if they want to take water for drinking or other needs, climbers must use tools such as glasses or drinking bottles. It is strictly forbidden to take directly by hand. Unfortunately, there are still many climbers who do not heed this rule. To set up a tent a minimum distance of 15 meters from the edge of the lake. All these rules are intended so that the water in Lake Ranu Kumbolo is kept clean and clean.

THE MYTH OF ROMANTIC

After Ranu Kumbolo, you can walk towards oro-oro ombo, but before getting there, you have to pass a very famous place on this mountain; Increase love! Because when viewed from afar, the landscape of this climb is in the form of a sign of love. Not only that, there is an exciting myth that never fades among climbers about this climb.

"Say the name of your lover in your heart when you pass this incline. Never look back before you reach the top. Then, the person whose name you mention will be your soul mate," hahaha.

Located at an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level, the temperature can reach zero degrees Celsius. In Kalimati there is only one spring which can be reached in about thirty minutes from the camp area. His name is Sumber Mani Because it is located deep into the forest, climbers are advised not to take water at night, there are also many wild animals such as tigers and wild boars roaming around.

SUMMIT ATTACK!

After setting up the tent and resting, at 00.00 the climbers start preparing to travel to the final shelter; the top of Semeru. From Kalimati it takes six to eight hours to get up. Because the terrain has a slope of 45 to 75 degrees, it is highly recommended for climbers to brick trekking poles, also because the terrain is full of dust and small pebbles it would be better if you put a Gaiter on your feet to protect the dust and sand.
Towards dawn, smile! Now you are on the roof of the island of Java: Mahameru!
