Walking around a monastery in Pidhirtsy, Lviv region, Ukraine (Eng-Ukr)

Today I invite you for a walk to a cozy place. There are tourist places known all over the world, there are famous only within the borders of one country, and there are those that seem to hide in the shadows, but it is there that you can feel peace, spiritual joy and aesthetic satisfaction. There is a famous Renaissance castle-palace in the village of Pidhirtsi in the Lviv region, which is usually visited by both Ukrainian and foreign tourists. But now traveling in Ukraine is, to put it mildly, dangerous. Local residents and immigrants from hot spots still visit ancient sights, because it is relatively calm in our region.

Сьогодні я запрошую вас на прогулянку у затишне місце. Є туристичні місця, відомі на весь світ, є знамениті лише в межах однієї країни, а є такі, що ніби ховаються у тіні, але саме там можна відчути спокій, духовну радість і естетичне задоволення. У селі Підгірці на Львівщині є знаменитий ренесансний замок-палац, куди зазвичай спішать і українські, і зарубіжні туристи. Та зараз мандрувати Україною, м'яко кажучи, небезпечно. Та місцеві жителі і переселенці з гарячих точок все ж відвідують давні пам'ятки, адже у нашій області відносно спокійно.

However, not every tourist knows that in addition to the castle near Pidigirtsi there is also an ancient monastery. Once I already wrote about him in the Ukrainian community, and today I will add my new impressions and thoughts. It's hard for Ukrainians these days, that's probably why people go to churches and pray a lot.
We went to this place on Sunday, with my daughter, my sister and her son and granddaughter. We were glad that a good company had gathered. The weather favored us.

Проте не кожен турист знає, що окрім замку біля Підгірців є ще старовинний монастир. Колись я вже писала про нього в українській спільноті, та сьогодні додам свої нові враження і думки. Тяжко нині на душі в українців, мабуть тому люди тягнуться до храмів, багато моляться.
Ми поїхали у це місце в неділю, з донькою, моєю рідною сестрою та її сином і онукою. Ми раділи, що зібралася гарна компанія. Погода сприяла нам.

This place is not far from our village, on a steep hill. Once upon a time, there was a settlement of Slavs here called Plisnesko, it is mentioned in the ancient work "A words about Igor's regiment". They say that at the time when our state was called Rus (do not confuse with Russia, these are completely different things) there was also a monastery here. But in 1241, the Mongol horde destroyed the village and the monastery. The monastery was restored around the beginning of the 17th century on the initiative of the owner of the village of Pidhirtsi, Stanislav Konietspolskyi.
In Soviet times, the monastery was closed, and there was a department of a tuberculosis hospital here. And since 1991, singing and prayer have been heard in the old buildings again, because this complex belongs to the monastic order of the Basilians of the Ukrainian greek-catholic church.

Це місце неподалік від нашого села, на крутому пагорбі. Колись давно тут було поселення слов'ян, що звалось Пліснесько, про нього згадується ще в давньому творі "Слово о полку Ігоревім". Кажуть, у той час коли наша держава називалась Русь (не плутайте з Росією, це зовсім різні речі) тут теж був монастир. Але у 1241 році монгольська орда зруйнувала село і монастир. Обитель була відновлена десь на початку 17 століття з ініціативи власника села Підгірці Станіслава Конєцпольського. У радянські часи монастир закрили, тут було відділення туберкульозної лікарні. А з 1991 у давніх будівлях знову лунає спів та молитва, бо цей комплекс належить монашому ордену василіян УГКЦ.

On weekdays, it is quiet and peaceful here, only monks lead their ascetic lifestyle. But on Sundays and holidays, people from neighboring villages come to pray together. This Sunday was the feast of Corpus Christi and the consecration of wreaths, so a lot of people gathered. Let's go to the church.

It is light and solemn here. The temple is not very big, with white walls (apparently they were once painted, but this did not reach our time). Listening to the choir, I look at the interior. I like his modesty and unobtrusiveness. The church was built in 1720-1750, and then altars, a pulpit, and beautiful sculptures were made. I love looking at them. They seem to be alive, with sharp facial features, with very expressive and even nervous hand movements.
In the main altar, I like the figures of the apostles on the upper tier and the four evangelists below, in the niches. At the place from where the sermon is delivered, there are very beautiful sculptures of bishops. And the light blue base that frames the sculptures looks festive.

У будні тут тихо і спокійно, лише монахи ведуть свій аскетичний спосіб життя. Та в неділю і свята люди з сусідніх сіл приїжджають на спільну молитву. У цю неділю було свято Божого тіла і посвячення віночків,отож зібралося чимало люду. Давайте зайдемо до церкви.
Тут світло і урочисто. Храм не дуже великий, з білими стінами (очевидно колись вони були розмальовані, але це не дійшло до наших часів). Слухаючи спів хору я розглядаю інтер'єр. Мені подобається його скромність і ненав'язливість. Церква була побудована у 1720-1750 роках, а потім зроблено вівтарі, амвон, прекрасні скульптури. Я люблю їх розглядати. Вони ніби живі, з гострими рисами обличчя, з дуже виразними і навіть нервовими рухами рук. Приємно те, що ці дерев'яні скульптури є поліхромні, це наче оживляє їх.
У головному вівтарі мені подобаються постаті апостолів на верхньому ярусі і чотири євангелісти внизу, у нішах. На місці звідки виголошують проповідь, дуже гарні скульптури єпископів. А ще святково виглядає світло-синя основа, яка обрамлює скульптури.

After the Service we went outside and walked around. Let's take a look at this church from afar. It looks massive, has a baroque facade, a low round dome and a faceted apse. The church traditionally for our area has three parts - naves. Not far from the temple there is a belfry in the form of arches, through the lower tier of which people enter the courtyard.
There are always many flowers here. We went a little further, to an orchard where cherries and nuts ripen. How wonderful that the number of benches has increased here. You can just relax or have a snack, because people come here from far away.

Після Служби ми вийшли на вулицю і гуляли навколо. Давайте оглянемо цю церкву здалеку. Вона виглядає масивною, має бароковий фасад, невисокий круглий купол і гранчасту апсиду. Церква традиційно для нашої місцевості має три частини — нефи. Неподалік від храму є дзвіниця у формі арок, крізь нижній ярус якої на подвір'я заходять люди.
Тут завжди багато квітів. Ми пішли трохи вперед, до фруктового саду, де дозрівають вишні і горіхи. Як чудово, що тут збільшилася кількість лавочок. Можна просто відпочити або й перекусити, адже люди приїжджають сюди здалеку.

Sculptures of bears, a deer and an abandoned house with a triangular gable are remnants of the Soviet era. Yes, they look quite original next to the statues of saints... It seems that once there was a society of hunters in the abandoned house. Around here is a dense forest and a few lonely houses on the farm. Some of the trees on the slope were cut down and you can see these beautiful landscapes. Among the novelties is a flower bed with lavender. I hope this beautiful flower will take root here! It seems that the chapel at the entrance and the sculpture of John the Baptist were recently built. There is a spring nearby with delicious water, which we collected on the way.

Скульптури ведмедів, оленя і закинутий будинок з трикутним фронтоном — це залишки радянської епохи. Так, досить оригінально вони виглядають поряд зі статуями святих... Здається, колись у закинутому домі були товариство мисливців. Навколо тут густий ліс і кілька одиноких будинків на хуторі. Частину дерев на схилі зрубали і можна оглянути ці гарні краєвиди. З новинок — клумба із лавандою. Сподіваюся, ця красива квітка тут приживеться! Здається, нещодавно збудували і каплицю при вході та скульптуру Івана Хрестителя. Поряд є джерело зі смачною водою, якої ми набрали в дорогу.

After resting in the shade of the trees, we went to the nearby forest to have a bite to eat, and later went to visit relatives.

It was such a blessed day, which was spoiled by the damned war.
As soon as we drove up to the monastery in the morning, the air alarm started, and when the service was over and people were leaving the church, we heard a signal on the phone: "The alarm went off." Such an interesting coincidence... In big cities, people are more likely to hide in shelters during air alarms. But our protection was only the thick walls of the temple. Nothing "flew" to our region. A rocket hit Cherkasy city that day, it seems there were several wounded and one killed...
After that, starting from Monday, there were many more shellings from Russia. Kremenchuk, Lysychansk, Odesa yesterday morning. All this on civilians, on houses, shopping centers. I want you to know about it!

Відпочивши у тіні дерев, ми ще поїхали у ліс неподалік, щоб трохи там перекусити, а згодом пішли в гості до родичів. Це був такий благодатний день, який все таки зіпсувала клята війна. Як тільки ми під'їжджати до монастиря вранці, то почалась повітряна тривога, а коли закінчилася служба і люди виходили з церкви, то у телефоні ми почули сигнал: "Відбій тривоги". Таке цікаве співпадіння... У великих містах люди частіше ховаються у сховища під час повітряної тривоги. Але нашим захистом були хіба що товсті стіни храму. На наш регіон нічого не "прилетіло". Ракета влучила в той день у Черкаси, здається там було кілька поранених і один вбитий... А після цього починаючи з понеділка було ще багато обстрілів з боку Росії. Кременчук, Лисичанськ, сьогодні вранці — Одеса. Все по мирних жителях, по домах, торгових центрах. Хочу, щоб ви про це знали!
