Take a bathe.

I have seen a lot of bs that people normalize these days on the internet and while some are just plainly disturbing, there is one I recently came across and even if it’s to riot against it, catch me there.

Body odor.

It’s one of those days you wish you were ignorant about things.

I was casually minding my business, scrolling through tiktok and their witchcraft algorithm caught up with me.
A video of a lady dueting another video she saw on tiktok about a girl defending her body odor at the gym.

So apparently this is what happened;
This girl came on tiktok to address how she was treated at the gym. The manager allegedly stopped her mid workout and pulled her to the side, he asked her to leave the gym as a results of many complaints from other customers regarding her stench.

First of all WOW.

She really took it upon her self to boldly log onto the internet, turn on her camera and record herself explaining the embarrassing story of a manager literally chasing her from the building because she stank.

Yes when we workout, we sweat and stink but not to the point of causing a whole pollution!

The gag is she literally outed herself and it’s just hilarious.
I’m guessing she expected support from her followers and some weirdos actually concurred but the majority gave her backlash instead and I am here for the whole violence!
Talking about “normalize body od-“ Hell tf No, let’s not.

I’m taking this personal because I have been a victim not once not twice and each time in my mind I’m like there is special karma waiting for them for putting me in this position.

One instant was in an indoor event and I was to be seated on a couch with other friends and strangers.
This pretty petite girl was to be seated by my right hand side. Before making my way to my seat I thought “oh great a pretty girl, we could vibe”. She smiled at me and I smiled right back.

Welp maybe that was too soon.

Guys the stench that oozed out of this one just two steps away is one I have never witnessed.

If the stench was that bad at the beginning of the event, what would be my fate at the middle or end and there was no way to exchange seats without looking suspicious.
I managed to seat still all through distracting myself by mingling with others till she decided to go in for the kill.
Dance.

While she was still seated I took the opportunity to stand to receive a little fresh air but this lady said nope, she’s not letting me off that easy.
She stood up almost immediately after I did and danced, swinging her hands here and there.
I looked to her side with watery eyes and wondered why the next girl wasn’t complaining then it turned out they were friends.

How do I politely tell her she stinks and I’m slowly loosing my sense of smell without sounding offensive.
I doubt perfume could even cure that odor as it would be doing more harm than good.

Finally it was that part where the rest of the event was dancing, I took the opportunity to slip away for my dear life and that was how I escaped.

There is no way that lady could not smell her own stench and the audacity she had to boldly dance and swing her hands around me was wild.

Maybe it was the smile we exchanged earlier because I was wondering where my courageous spirit to confront her went. Instead I took it in, suffering in silence.

She took an enjoyable moment away from me and turned it to suffering (me gasping for fresh air) so from one logical person to another, I am on my knees begging, no let’s please not normalize body odor. Take a bathe, apply body spray and pity the poor masses.

I've spent many years working in gyms. Not ok. Nothing worse than trying to catch your breath at the end of a set and getting assaulted by some stank. I worked at an upscale midtown Manhattan gym for a while and we had several celebrities that chose not to wear deodorant and one who never washed his clothes. It was awful.

They don't wear deodorants or wash their clothes? The horror.
How people are so comfortable with stinking horrifies me, at least if not for your sake, pity others.
Then there are some people that are on a movement to normalize it, truly NOT OK.

Another excellent post. Too bad you seem like you missed the COMedy Rumble Announcement

You still have 30 days for another chance to enter!

Oh no I didn't forget about the rumble I just didn't think this post was good enough.

Thanks for the reminder regardless, let me get to work 🕺🏻

Oooh, do I have some things to say about this!

I have empathy for people on both sides of this debate. I myself have taken several full-day (or longer) bus trips, and I don't mean tour bus or party bus, I mean Greyhound. Pretty much everyone on the bus smells. All the people at the bus station smell, and the people outside the bus station... well, my eyes watered a little bit just thinking about them.

However, I have also been in public situations where I smelled, but there was just nothing I could do about it. I was once asked to leave a pre-employment skills testing event, because of several complaints about MY odor. I showered before hand, like a reasonable person, but at the time I didn't have a car, and my ride canceled. This was before Uber (this was back when 'the internet' was still AOL!), and there are no cabs or public transit to take out here, so I had to walk to that skills test, for about 3 1/2 hours, on a day that was about 90°F and very humid. Oh yeah, I stank, and I stank bad, but there was NO day I could reschedule to. Missing that test meant not getting the job, and at the time, I REALLY needed the job!

Now, I sweat and work in foul smelling materials (road tar and sealants) all day long during the spring, summer, and fall seasons, and sometimes I have to stop at the store on my way home from work. I'm courteous enough to keep my distance from people, and I get my shopping done quickly. I actually like going to the store with this smell now, because people keep their distance from ME.

There's actually some interesting studies showing that whether or not we find a person's body odor offensive correlates to which diseases each of our immune systems are better adapted to.

I don't want to normalize BO, by any means, but I understand that sometimes you just can't help but stink, and sometimes you're the only who thinks a person stinks!

About that skills test... the company called me and left a message on my answering machine before I walked home... I got the job. I had completed several of the skill assessments nearly twice as fast as any of the other participants, so to this day, I believe some of the complaints were jealousy!

You intentionally go to the store with the smell just to avoid people?
Officer, it's this one 😭😆

!LOL

There are II kinds of people

See, this is why I don’t like most people, they are so fucking selfish, stupid and smell bad. I can kinda understand if someone doesn’t want to shave (seems to be in fashion) and looks like a cave woman, like fine, I just wouldn’t want to be that or touch that, but to smell bad and claim that’s normal!? Let’s send these people in to a remote island until they learn to care for personal hygiene.

I saw they've successfully normalized not shaving, disturbing but fine.
But body odor is where I draw the line, and yes let's send the to a remote island where they can stink in peace.
You sound like you’ve been a victim haha.
Have you?

There is currently a heatwave in Finland, in a country where most of the year we wear three layers of wool… so yes, I’ve been a victim of the stank in the past weeks.

🤣🤣🤣 I could imagine such scenario. You made me remember mine too. I traveled a four hours journey from my hometown to school that day and oldies were the one in the bus, I was the only young girl. Oh my! I already paid and the bus was the last one going my direction. They stink! 😬😬😬 I couldn't control myself but had to manage. Thank God for the moving bus that was bringing in air. Once the bus stops on the road, it becomes something else for me.. 😂😂😂

This is my nightmare 😩 glad you survived!

@winniecorp such an interesting post. However, most people with such condition are also battling to overcome it. But for the lady who boldly came online to normalize hers, in naija term, her shame dey shame me.

Body odor is not normal and should never be treated as such.

It's the ones that are confident enough to flaunt it that I have a problem with. Just like having severe mouth odor and you go ahead to wanna kiss someone, JAIL!

But for the lady who boldly came online to normalize hers, in naija term, her shame dey shame me.

Honestly! I’m sure she deleted her account because the backlash she got was even more embarrassing lol!
