Fungi Friday ~ Wonderful Mysterious Mushroom

Last September I was out hiking down along a nearby river when I found this beautiful mushroom happily growing on a very old Hemlock tree log.

I have not yet been able to make a positive identification.

In the evening and now back at home at my cabin I spent some time searching and attempting to identify it.
It quickly occurred me I had no idea if it was gilled. Most to important to know in identifying fungi.

The next day I returned back on a mission to take more pictures and I confirmed it was indeed gilled.
I was absolutely thrilled to see and capture a picture with a slug on it this time. I'm not sure but I think there's another slug underneath on the backside of the stem.
I haven't been able to make a positive identification.
My photo search kept leading to perhaps a Rustgill
(Gymnopilus junonius/ Cortinariaceae)

Trying to take a pictures of the underside of low growing mushrooms is challenging.
I carefully slid my mobile phone/camera under it.

Just a little futher on down the river I came across this amazing rather large mushroom.
It was also growing on an old Hemlock log.
I'm wondering if perhaps it could the same fungi. It was much bigger is size and very mature.

How totally marvelous and amazing it would be if fungi personality identify and introduce itself to us
"Hello, my name is Rustgill"

☺🍄Happy Fungifriday

Thank You so very...very much for the rehive🐝 !
@pixresteemer
Most greatly appreciated.
;-)

if fungi introduce itself to us, they probably should have voice system... and mind/conscience as well?.. I afraid in such a cash they would trick us in many ways! 'Hello I am Panther Toadstool -- 100% deadly mushroom. Hey, why are you running sway from me so fast?...'
Smth like that.
Or, maybe, would use their mind to hideaway from hunters even better!

😊🍄
Fungi can be tricky and sneaky...!! There are many look alikes/impostors.
@qwerrie
Perhaps I should sweetly and kindly introduce myself first and say
"Hello..!! I am FungiLover"
😁🍄🤗

hehe, yes!... but does it mean, that being FungiLover do not embrace consuming fungi?? that you love them only visually, not trying to establish a closer contact... in the stomach?... So, I afraid this approach might not work.

:P

Great and wonderful fungi observation
@qwerrie !!!
There could easily be mutual deception going on. I might not never ever eat a mushroom again...😁
Thank You the ENGAGE tokens

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

ps. this shroom looked like it is sort of Boleto. it really tricked me, I was surprised to see it has grills on the later pics.

My first thought too was perhaps Boleto.
@qwerrie
When I went back and learned it was gilled I canceled out my thought.
🤔fungi mystery🤔

no mystery at all! this is named "mimicry" - this unknown mushroom, he is just jealous of Boleto, hehe!

You're very welcome :)

The slug really seems to like the taste of that mushroom. I have found one here that looks like yours but it had pores instead of gills, still remains a mystery.

😊
@sketch.and.jam
The slug totally seemed to be enjoying the mushroom.
In the 4th photo it looks like there might be another one under the cap behind the stem 🤔.
Do you think the one you found that looks kind of like mine is a Bolete?
I saw these in early September.

Yeah it is most likely a bolete of some kind. The one you found reminds me of pholiota but without the scales.
