fungi friday - Ladoga mushrooms (18 foto)

in Fungi Lovers3 years ago

Hola, setero! I wish you a Happy #FungiFriday today

Yesterday I walked in the local park, enjoyed the fluffy snow and ice hills skating. Searching for mushrooms did not sound like a wise idea ... at least not in the snowy park around me! So, today I decided to share with you some oldies. I checked my old folders filled with pleasurable memories of my Ladoga travels, and in the folder labelled '2008' I found some shots that I totally forgot of!

I plan to make a big post, giving a lot of details about that amazing travel, probably for the #SaturdayMemories challenge initiated by @olga.maslievich. I simply cant fit it altogether with the mushrooms. So, I will share the fungi part today -- and maybe a little more as an extra. Just as a starter pack :P

So, back in 2008, this was my third trip to Ladoga - the largest lake in Europe. Probably, every trip is special, even if you visit the same place - because everything changes; the weather changes, the season and the season change, the conditions, most importantly, the people, the team change ... these are very defining things.

Our boats approaching to an island that will be our camp tonight; I was in another boat. After we moored, we set up camp - carried our things to the shore, set up tents, pulled up an awning, collected firewood, and had free time until evening.

This photo is not mine, copyright our teammate (c) @tatdt -- but you can see me in the frame, and my wife with our Canon 350D camera with 50mm 1.8, as well.

This is how our camp looked like.

_MG_5645w.jpg

Same camp, just different point of view (no drone was used for this capture).

_MG_5634w.jpg

We used a little rock to shoot it. And this is the view at this rock from the camp point. After the camp was set up, we grabbed our hands, legs, cameras, and went off to explore the area. According to the photos, I found just a few mushrooms.

Redhead boletus (Leccinum aurantiacum), hiding in a heather bush.

...and this unedible mushroom that I tried to identify just now -- and I consider it may be a Tiger's eye mushroom (Coltricia perennis, Russian name Сухлянка двулетняя). But that is not 100% sure. Would be grateful if other experts will correct me, if I'm wrong with it. Unfortunately, I didnt take a shoot of its stem and cap's downside. At the time I was absolutely not in the know about the mushroom's identification requirements (now I am).

So... this island had a decidious forest, which suddenly happened to be a treasury for Porcini mushrooms and Redhead Boleto. And here I come to the most enjoyable, core part of my story, a walnut kernel!

_MG_5665w2.jpg

I will not pretend those are my trophies; no -- other teammates happily discovered and cropped them.

_MG_5667w.jpg

This time, my input was just help in the preparation pre-cooking process (i.e. cleaning).

I was really fascinated with this huge Porcini mushroom. Such a solid edition it was!

Preparing and cleaning of the mushrooms is often considered to be the most hard and annoying part... so, the folks you see in this frame, are the activists, who took the hardest part.

Again, not my photo, as you see me in the frame on the left. Copyright (c) @tatdt

And a "retaliation" -- I found @tatdt who found a young Porcini boletus. Not a great capture, unfortunately. (During that travel I was limited to 50mm 1.8 as my only lens, and discovered it is not as good, as the 1.4 edition of it... The captures sharpness is worse, the bokeh is less interesting, the working aperture is a bit less, and the autofocus works much worse, mistakes are quite often and sometimes it is not clear if any part of the picture is in focus at all, especially, when shooting under poor lighting conditions. Oh, but this is getting me away from my post.

Dinner time!!!!!!!!!!!!! Folks are happy.
'Food is the 1st thing, the rest will follow after'
Ok, let me round up my post on this note.
The rest of the visuals I will shape into another post.

Now, its time to part ways, I wish you good luck -- and Good Hunting! Oh, and Happy #FungiFriday to you! And a little reminder: we have a nice fun challenge at HIVE, hold by @EwkaW

@qwerrie - I really enjoy reading your trip story and make me feel that I am joining your trip. The huge Porcini mushroom is really amazed me. The photo of redhead mushroom behind the bush is pretty well captured with clearly details that we can not see by our eyes sight. And the captured photo of unedible mushroom is very interesting in details of how the nature is. Thanks for sharing and have a super great weekend.
