Don't be so eager to be offended. The narcissism of small differences leads to the most boring kind of conformity.

Practically, all artists dream of achieving public recognition, the longed-for fame, but in today's society, becoming a public figure not only brings good things, but can also be a double-edged sword, with which our whole life can be mutilated to the point of being completely unrecognizable.

Hello, #moviesandtvshows friends. Last week I had the pleasure of seeing one of the movies I was most looking forward to this year: "Tár".

Normally, I tend to do quite a bit of research before sitting down to watch a movie for fear of wasting my time, as has happened to me so many times before, but when it's a production with some element that strikes me as interesting I jump in without knowing anything about it.

That was the case with "Tár", it was enough for me just to see that the leading role was played by the incredibly talented Cate Blanchett, to add it to my list of priorities, I didn't even read the synopsis, for me that woman, almost always, is synonymous of a good movie (no Thor, not you, not even she can save that disaster) and definitely in "Tár" she gives us again a truly brilliant performance.

Almost immediately after I started watching it I realized that it would be one of the best movies I would have the pleasure of seeing this year and of course that's how it turned out to be.

The movie, tells the story of Lydia Tár, a famed orchestra conductor who is preparing one of the most important concerts of her career, but in the midst of her busy schedule, the weight of her actions begins to precipitate everything towards an unfortunate precipice.

Our journey through Lydia's life begins with an interview that allows us to get to know our protagonist quite well, a brilliant, talented, EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winnner, a truly unique woman, but at the same time self-centered and, honestly, unbearable, the kind who believes the world should revolve around her.

As we get deeper into the story, we also get deeper into Lydia's life, we meet her wife, whom it is obvious she has cheated on several occasions, her assistant, with whom she has a bit of an unprofessional relationship, her students and fellow orchestra members, whom her patronizes.

But, not everything is bad with our protagonist, we also meet Petra, her adoptive daughter, the only good thing in Lydia's life and thanks to whom we can find glimpses of humanity in her.

Something I would love to praise about "Tár" is the construction (and destruction) of its main character, it is so well created, written and developed that more than once I came to think that Lydia really existed and that she was not just a Hollywood character, simply great.

Now, I must be honest and accept that at first I didn't understand the motive of "Tár", I started taking it as a biopic, but in reality it couldn't be because Lydia Tár is a fictional character. It wasn't until the protagonist's actions began to have repercussions that I realized the powerful message behind the plot.

"Tár" is a work that invites us to reflect on the fearful "culture of cancellation", which, for better or worse, is something that is part of our society today and that this film knows how to portray in an extraordinary way because it does not fall into sermons, nor does it try to force some predetermined criteria on us, on the contrary, it presents us with enough points of view so that we can reflect on the subject and establish our own criteria.

The director and writer Todd Field takes us by the hand and without realizing it, to the reflection:

Is art inherently linked to the artist?

Should we separate the artist from they work in order to enjoy it?

How much should we judge someone by past actions or by things that can
easily be taken out of context?

It has been a masterful way to make us find our answers without the need to serve them to us directly.

Despite its two and a half hours length the story is so well plotted that I couldn't take my eyes off the screen, at first it was only because Lydia had me captivated, but by the end I was so involved with her and her story that I could not stop watching it, and of course at this point I want to start talking about the best thing about "Tár": Cate Blanchett.

I have no words to describe how wonderful I find this woman, the work she does in this movie is excellent, I thought I was not going to see again a character as amazing as Jasmine (Blue Jasmine), but here she proved me how wrong I was, I ended up once again madly in love with her and her work.

Do you remember at the beginning I told you that Lydia Tár was unbearable?, the reality is that Cate portrays her in such a way that I forgot all the insufferable that the character can be and ended up wrapped up in her magnetic personality, captivated by the vulnerability that she so subtly let out and this is totally Cate Blanchett's fault.

Even at Lydia's darkest and most detestable points I loved Cate, I remember there were times when I just thought "I can't believe how amazing this actress is". Without a doubt she makes the film and in turn is the best thing about it, Todd Field couldn't have found a better performer for his character, it was so great that I'm sure "Tár" wouldn't have worked as well as it did with an actress other than her.

The development of the character, her descent and the way everything ends up unraveling around her make it necessary a performance to match and no doubt that's what we get, a master class in acting from the hand of Cate, who, from my very biased point of view, will surely take many awards in the next awards season or at least I hope so, because she got so involved with the character that she learned German and even to play the piano (yes, that is her playing).

As expected, music plays a very important role in "Tár", it is a delight to listen to the wonderful soundtrack that accompanies that movie. One of the details I enjoyed the most was that the story revolved around Gustav Mahler's work and not around the same old composers, although of course there were mentions of them here and there throughout the film.

"Tár" is perhaps not such an easy film to watch and being purely a drama many will probably find it boring, especially the beginning, but I assure you, my friends, that if you give the two and a half hours to Lydia Tár, you will end up completely satisfied with what you have just seen, yes, disgusted with her egomania, but in love with the great work of Cate Blanchett and Todd Field.

Thank you very much for reading me, see you in comments.

Cate Blanchett is the great favorite to be nominated for the Golden Globes and the Oscars. It is already being said that she is the winner and that Ana de Armas will have to settle for a nomination. Cate Blanchett is an extraordinary actress. I haven't seen the fim, so I try not to read too much information about the movie, I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I haven't looked it up, I'll get to it over the weekend.

I will not say anything then so as not to spoil your experience, I hope you watch it soon, it is so worthy. I was even more in love with Cate than I already was, such a great actor ❤️

Thanks for stopping by ✌️

I saw a clip for this the other day and forgot the name of it. Thanks for the reminder. I didn't read all of the writeup because of potential spoilers but after I check out the film I'll come back and we'll chat! :)

I hope you soon give Tár a chance, you will not regret those hours invested, it is an excellent film.

Thank you very much for reading and for your comments ✌️

I downloaded it yesterday and it is in my queue next!

Its seems your truly in love with this film 😂
The way you review it us intriguing...
I'll surely check this out ..
Thanks for sharing 😊

Do it, you're going to love it, it's an excellent film and well, the protagonist, she is who I'm in love with, what a talent 👏🏼

Thank you very much for stopping by and for your support ❤️🤗

Wow it looks amazing this movie and i love cate blanchet as well
