Fear of Rain. Review and opinion.

Hace dos días vi esta película que me llamo mucho la atención y por esa razón quise hablarles de ella, se trata de Fear of Rain, es una película de suspenso del 2021, protagonizada por Madison Iseman, Katherine Heigl, Israel Broussard, Eugenia Bondurant y Harry Connick Jr. Escrita y dirigida por Castilla Landón una directora muy joven y talentosa, ya que pienso que sin haber visto otras de sus películas esta dejó en mí una excelente impresión, tanto así, que tengo dos días donde no salen de mi cabeza las escenas de la película y por esa razón decidí hacer esta publicación, espero no contar más de lo debido ya que no es mi intención hacer spoiler.

Two days ago I saw this movie that caught my attention and for that reason I wanted to talk about it, it is Fear of Rain, it is a thriller of 2021, starring Madison Iseman, Katherine Heigl, Israel Broussard, Eugenia Bondurant and Harry Connick Jr. Written and directed by Castilla Landon a very young and talented director and I think that without having seen other of her films this one left an excellent impression on me, so much so, that I have two days where scenes from the film do not leave my head and for that reason I decided to make this publication, I hope not to tell more than I should since it is not my intention to make spoilers.

Rain (Madison Iseman) es una joven próxima a cumplir su mayoría de edad y que sufre de esquizofrenia, (trastorno mental en el que el paciente presenta alucinaciones y no puede distinguir entre lo real y lo imaginario) a pesar que tiene tratamiento médico y visita a la psicóloga, cuando cree sentirse bien, deja de tomar los medicamentos y en esos momentos tiene alucinaciones y ataques de paranoia. Rain cree que su vecina Dani McConnell (Eugenia Bondurant) que además es su maestra, tiene en su ático a una niña secuestrada, pero debido a su enfermedad y a los recientes ataques, nadie le cree, solo Caleb (Israel Broussard) un joven, nuevo en el colegio y que conoce cuando regresa de estar hospitalizada por psicosis. Para Rain es muy importante tener a su papá Juan (Harry Connick Jr) cuidándola y a su mamá Michelle (Katherine Heigl) brindando apoyo y compañía.

Rain (Madison Iseman) is a young woman about to come of age and who suffers from schizophrenia, (mental disorder in which the patient has hallucinations and can not distinguish between the real and the imaginary) although she has medical treatment and visits the psychologist, when she thinks she feels well she stops taking the drugs and at those times she has hallucinations and paranoid attacks. Rain believes that her neighbor Dani McConnell (Eugenia Bondurant), who is also her teacher, has a kidnapped girl in her attic, but due to her illness and recent attacks, no one believes her, only Caleb (Israel Broussard), a young man new to the school, whom she meets when she returns from being hospitalized for psychosis. It is very important for Rain to have her father Juan (Harry Connick Jr) looking after her and her mother Michelle (Katherine Heigl) providing support and companionship.

¿Cómo saber que es real? Era lo que pensaba mientras veía la película, pasé casi 2 horas enganchada de tal manera que no lograba distinguir que era real, pero que no podía dejar de ver, ¿Le creo a Rain? Esa era mi pregunta. Claro, habían ocasiones en las que ella misma nos daba las respuesta de lo que sabía no podía estar pasando. Es muy interesante lo que vive una persona con esta enfermedad, estar consiente que se sufre un trastorno que no puede controlar y que en ocasiones ni ella pueda confiar en sí misma porque no esta segura que es real o que es una alucinación, convertirse en un experimento de la ciencia y tomar muchos medicamentos para poder tener una vida estable y lograr que las personas confíen en ti.

How do I know it's real? That's what I was thinking while watching the movie, I spent almost 2 hours hooked in such a way that I couldn't tell it was real, but I couldn't stop watching, do I believe Rain? That was my question. Of course, there were times when she herself gave us the answer to what she knew could not be happening. It is very interesting what a person with this disease goes through, being aware that she is suffering from a disorder that she cannot control and that sometimes even she cannot trust herself because she is not sure if it is real or if it is a hallucination, becoming a science experiment and taking many medications to be able to have a stable life and make people trust you.

Su único amigo es Caleb, con el que sentirá una atracción física y sentimental pero del que ella misma no está segura que sea real o producto de su imaginación ya que a su parecer es demasiado perfecto, pero que de igual manera los dos planean investigar si su vecina tiene secuestrada a una niña, Rain esta consiente que si solo es producto de su imaginación puede ser internada en una clínica psiquiatra de inmediato, pero desde el principio se puede ver que ella no confía en su vecina, para mí también era un poco sospechosa, pero no nos podemos dejar guiar por las apariencias. Además la vecina ha sido muy paciente y comprensiva, dejando pasar por alto episodios psicóticos de Rain, ofreciendo únicamente quejas a su papá, quien hace lo imposible para cuidar a su hija para que esté bien ya que por ninguna razón quiere que sea internada y apartada de su lado.

Her only friend is Caleb, with whom she will feel a physical and sentimental attraction but she herself is not sure if he is real or a figment of her imagination because in her opinion he is too perfect, but they both plan to investigate if her neighbor has kidnapped a girl, Rain is aware that if it is only a figment of her imagination she can be admitted to a psychiatric clinic immediately, but from the beginning you can see that she does not trust her neighbor, for me she was also a little suspicious, but we can not be guided by appearances. In addition, the neighbor has been very patient and understanding, overlooking Rain's psychotic episodes, offering only complaints to her father, who does his best to take care of his daughter and make sure she is well, as he does not want her to be hospitalized and taken away from him for any reason.

Ahora bien, Rain ve muchas cosas, unas reales y otras producto de su mente, como puede hacer para que le crean algo de lo que está muy segura, su papá siente miedo de estar equivocado y que por apoyarla, ella termine en un sanatorio mental y Caleb le cree pero ella piensa que él no existe ¿Será Caleb producto de su imaginación, en un afán por encontrar a alguien que le crea y la acepte como es? ¿Será mejor para Rain dejar todo como esta, seguir los consejos de su papá y no arriesgarse a estar equivocada?

Now, Rain sees many things, some real and others a product of her mind, how can she make them believe her, her father is afraid of being wrong and that by supporting her she will end up in a mental hospital and Caleb believes her but she thinks he does not exist, is Caleb a product of her imagination, in an effort to find someone who believes her and accepts her as she is? Is it better for Rain to leave everything as it is, follow her father's advice and not take the risk of being wrong?

Esta película como dije anteriormente me atrapó y me dejo pensando en ella estos últimos días, mientras la veía me cuestionaba lo que estaba pasando, ¿Que es real?, ¿Quienes son reales? Preguntas que descubrimos al final de la película, en ocasiones tuvimos que regresar la escena para darnos cuenta de los detalles que no vimos la primera vez, eso me encanta en una película. Me parece que el guión y la dirección están muy bien ejecutadas y la actuación de Madison Iseman perfecta y Katherine Heigl, me gusto esa tranquilidad al hablar, como diciendo, solo estoy aquí para apoyar a mi hija. Hace mucho vi una película que se convirtió en una de mis favoritas “Una mente brillante” con Russell Crowe interpretando al matemático John Forbes Nash Jr. Quien sufría de esquizofrenia y a pesar de eso ganó un Premio Nobel en Economía. Pensaba en la semejanza de las dos películas por el tema principal y de como John Nash pudo vivir toda su vida con esta enfermedad.

This movie as I said before caught me and left me thinking about it these last days, while I was watching it I was questioning what was going on, what is real, who are real? Questions that we discovered at the end of the movie, sometimes we had to go back to the scene to realize the details that we didn't see the first time, I love that in a movie. I think the script and direction are very well executed and the acting of Madison Iseman perfect and Katherine Heigl, I liked that calmness when she speaks, as if to say, I'm just here to support my daughter. Long ago I saw a movie that became one of my favorites "A Brilliant Mind" with Russell Crowe playing mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. who suffered from schizophrenia yet won a Nobel Prize in Economics. I was thinking about the similarity of the two movies because of the main theme and how John Nash was able to live his whole life with this disease.
