look I don't like you

I hear people say that a lot, and I've gotten quite a few myself. A lot of times first impression is the worst kind of impression. People will hate you just by the way you walk or the way you laugh or just because you're beautiful, it's something that cannot be changed and what's worse is that those silly things that'll make someone hate you for no reason are those silly things that'll actually make them like you the more when they get to know you.

Knowing people though is scary and sometimes our past experiences always lead us to the moments where we feel it's all going to be the same. I guess Cassie felt that way when she starting to get to know Luke and it must have been hard for her. I watched this movie on Sunday and i kept thinking about it up till this moment, I just couldn't get myself to not write a review. You know, it's not a new tale or something out of the ordinary but they're quite some lessons to be learnt.

Sometimes we don't find ourselves at that place we expect to be or want to be. I remember going to play football with by bare feet against a team that had a full kit, boots and all, I did feel bad but it wasn't my fault that my parents couldn't afford a boot and it certainly wasn't their fault that they couldn't satisfy their son's needs, that's why I got really emotional when Cassie couldn't pay for her drugs. It got a lot more touching when I realized luke became a drug addict because he had gone through a pain that was hard to heal, loosing someone.

It's hard, but it's beautiful to actually love someone and get that love back in return. This movie actually showed love, denial and fear. Part of what we go through in our daily lives and even though it felt a little like a fairy tale it was very relatable, I could see those things in their eyes and it was really touching. The director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum must have know what she wanted to pass across, and she did to a large extent.

Plot

Cassie Salazar works at a bar to make ends meet while trying to push her career as a songwriter and singer. Luke Morrow is a marine trainee who has daddy issues and is about to ship out for duty in a few days when he meets Cassie at a bar where he and his guys go to have one last drink. Surprisingly, her long time friend Frankie is part of the group and they both get all mushy with each other. Luke notices her and tries to be all showy, but Cassie puts him in his place.

Cassie is sharp witted and beautiful much to everyone's liking but things go sour when Armando becomes rude to her. He gets a good laugh from his group but Cassie is disgusted. Luke goes over to apologize but Cassie still thinking he was trying to hit on her gets even the more annoyed. Her fellow bartender tells her about the offer one of the guys made to her, telling her that if she gets married to a married to a marine she gets a load of other benefits including health care.

Apparently, Cassie is down with diabetes and her insurance cannot cover for her medical care and her money can't afford to take care of her bills. She goes to frankie telling him about her predicament and asking him to marry her so she'll get access to the health care but Frankie refuses because he has a girlfriend he loves so much and wants to marry, Luke who happened to be in the house overheard the conversation and gets annoyed.

But we find out that Luke owes a drug dealer who jumps him and threatens to harm his family. He's left with no choice but to get married so he can get the extra cash that comes with it and that's what leads him to ask Cassie to marry him. They end up getting married but have to be careful because if it gets discovered that they faked it they'll both be in serious trouble.

Would they be able to really convince everyone of their love? Would Luke be able to get rid of his debt? Would Cassie get her dreams as a singer fulfilled? You'll have to watch it to find out.

My take on the movie

20220810_010356.jpg

I think it's a nice movie, one that anyone can truely enjoy and I must say the casts were actually great, Cassie ( Sofia Carson), her beauty was outstanding I even found myself crushing and also her singing was really something to watch and Nicholas Galitzine (Luke) was quite the perfect match for her, reserved and handsome ( he looked so much like ronaldo) and he played the role with so much ease. The other casts too were super and I think they were well chosen.

The whole setting was nice, colors were on point and the locations. But I must say I was expecting a little bit of war action, just a little something to make my heart skip a beat but it didn't come and I realized that the movie got a little cliche at some point and even boring. I was so sure that Frankie was going to die and they proved me right, it was quite predictable at that point.

20220810_010530.jpg

The story wasn't the best either but it was something really enjoyable, seeing they both trying to warm up to each other and act like they were really in love was nice plus I like that they added the scene on their wedding night, really showed how much of that emotion they could share and I was expecting to see it again, at least a little bit of closure but it was lacking. Plus the whole trying to gain wide acceptance by displaying the black lives matter flag and the others was really unnecessary.

Overall I'll say it's a really nice movie, released on July 29, 2022 I'm sure it would surely do really well. I'll recommend it to you if you're looking to just sit and watch a chill movie that can actually give you goosebump sometimes. I'll give it an 8 out of 10.

Mira, no me gustas

Sort:

I saw it a couple of days ago, after another user posted a review and I wanted to see something different from what I always see.

I didn't have high expectations and I loved this movie, it touches on a lot of important issues, it doesn't do it in depth, but I liked it. It has some very positive things in it. I may write about it next week.

You're right, it's a good movie nonetheless, and one you can enjoy..I'm looking forward to your review...I know how indepth you can get. .
Thanks for your comment ❤️

Honestly I'm not a fan of romance movies at all. I mean I love love but I don't really enjoy romance movies or shows that much. I already wrote this movie off but I've heard so much about it. I've even seen a couple of Netflix posts on instagram highlighting some parts of the film. After reading your review, I think I'll finally give it a watch. It wouldn't hurt to see some love xD

I like how you started your review. Very captivating. I didn't finish reading the plot though so I wouldn't read any spoilers:) I still read the rest of the post. Great piece!

Lol, romance is not for everybody...I just like to diversify, you know... watch anything that is interesting I'm every way...if it's a good movie I'll see it no matter the genre and I think you'll enjoy this one..

Thanks my gee...even if you did read the plot there's still a lot I didn't put there so I'll not spoil the movie, haha...

Appreciate your comment ❤️😏

I loved this movie, despite the weak moments and stigmatization issues. The romance scenes and the aspects they demarcated in the plot slowly made me see that anything was possible, what is possible? The prospects glimpsed after Luke returned to the US from the war and Cassie was like an implosion. That romance was appealing to my way of thinking.

Yeahh...I agree the romance even though it wasn't too much was actually touching and relatable...after he came back from the war I knew we were going to something a little different and adding his father to the mix made it work ...it's really a nice movie..

Thanks for commenting ❤️

I am not a big fan of romance movies but i will give a shot

Personally, I liked the many details that criticize the American society, but also the emotions that people who suffer from diseases like Cassie's live every day, I liked the movie and I would recommend it like you :D

Yeahh...I guess the American society has changed a lot..along with the world...it's sad that people have to go through the pain that comes with diseases.. sureeee

Thank you for your comment ❤️

Saludos ❤️

Someone recommended this movie a day ago. And I see it's a new release. I would love to give it a try, but omor time no be person mate sha🤣😂 but I go sha try the movie someday when I am a bit handy as per time lol.
Giving it 8 out of 10 goes a long way to show how worth the movie is.
Meanwhile, did Cassie and Luke finally fall in love or it was a fake agreement all through?
