The original unsolved mysteries was a popular series that was produced between 1987 and 2010. Its episodes can now be found in Youtube and I even decided to watch one so I could compare it with the more recent reboot. The majority of the mysteries in the new iteration of the show are about people who disappeared or were murdered in mysterious circumstances.

The show allows people related to the victim to give share their thoughts and opinions about everything that happened, and sometimes we can even see some police detectives explaining several things about each case. Unlike the original Unsolved Mysteries, this one only includes one mystery per episode. There is no host and the dramatizations are way different, they don't include dialogue and only try to represent very basic aspects of the known circumstances.

There are very sad episodes because we see family members of the victims. It must be very hard for them to talk about these tragic topics but it could be worth it because one of the goals of this show is gather information about each case. At the end of each episode, the show informs the viewer that if they have information related to the case, they could share it and help with the investigation. They also include several methods to securely share this information.

Some of the mysteries from the original show were solved after viewers watched episodes about cases involving people they knew. With a little bit of luck, some of the new mysteries could also be solved especially because now the audience is potentially much larger.

If you wonder what type of mystery you will find I can confirm there will be a mystery about a death that cannot be explained. The guy had a normal life and suddenly he went to a building, he apparently jumps out of the roof and dies. It could be considered suicide but there were estrange circumstances that can make people think it was a homicide. Another case was a very typical UFO encounter that I didn't believe was real. Too generic and one of the people didn't appear trustworthy to me. Another case was about a family with a crazy mom that I believe was a psychopath, etc...

If you enjoy learning about mysteries this docuseries is a very good choice to watch. It is entertaining and some of the mysteries can leave you thinking about what really happened. The production values are high and watching this show is worth the time.

The best

  • I always enjoy knowing about this type of mysteries.
  • It provides an insight into the type of crazy things other people have to face.

The worst

  • In the UFO episode, I have the feeling one guy was just inventing things but who knows...
  • None of the mysteries were mind-blowing.
