5 Things I Learned from the Cosby Show

When I was growing up, my favorite show was The Cosby Show. Cliff Huxtable was hilarious. In addition to being entertaining, I learned a lot from the show.

One lesson I learned from the show was don't drink when you are underage. Vanessa and her friends drank on an episode. Vanessa threw up that night and had to go to school ill the next day. In addition to teaching me not to drink while underage, it also taught me not to overindulge in alcohol.

Another lesson I learned was not to do drugs. A friend of Cliff's had a daughter with a drug addiction. It broke her parents' hearts. It led to her stealing from her mother. She went to rehab a couple of times, but was unable to shake the habit. This taught me to stay away from drugs.

I also learned what it was like to have a father in the house. My parents split up when I was young. I lived with my mother. Cliff was a strong male role model for me growing up. He was always kind and respectful to his children. He listened to them. He always made time for them. He also treated their friends well.

I learned what a successful marriage was like, too. Cliff and Claire were very romantic. They loved and respected one another. They supported one another. Even though their careers and children kept them busy, they always made time for each other.

The show also taught me not to take myself too seriously. Even though Cliff and Claire were a doctor and a lawyer, very serious professions, they took the time to be silly with each other and with the children.

I am happy I grew up when The Cosby Show was on the air. It entertained me immensely, while teaching me at the same time.

I like this little summary of the values the Cosby show displayed. these shows are great social teachers and illustrate the best we can be, which means even if they are fictional families we can still learn something from them. I enjoyed your post.
