Hi, cinéfilos, espero que se encuentren bien. Por mi parte, no ando muy bien de salud, así que me la paso todo el día tirada en la cama, reposando y revisando Facebook desde mi teléfono porque, de paso, el internet de casa está fallando un poco. Entre las cosas que me la paso revisando en esta plataforma, son trailers de películas y ver cuál me llama la atención para luego buscarla. Bueno, me conseguí con el tráiler de esta: Nivel 16, y, pues, me enganchó en seguida así que fui “corriendo” a buscarla. Dos cosas me sorprendieron en ese momento: lo reciente y poca relevancia que tuvo. No esperé y me puse de una vez a verla, aprovechando que el internet anda bien. Cabe mencionar que las capturas de pantalla, fueron realizadas desde mi pc mientras veía el film.
Hi, moviegoers, I hope you're doing well. As for me, I'm not in very good health, so I spend all day lying in bed, resting and checking Facebook from my phone because, by the way, the internet at home is failing a bit. Among the things I spend my time checking on this platform, are movie trailers and see which one catches my attention and then look for it. Well, I came across the trailer of this one: Level 16, and, well, I was hooked right away so I went "running" to look for it. Two things surprised me at that moment: how recent and little relevance it had. I didn't wait and I started watching it right away, taking advantage of the fact that the internet is working fine. It is worth mentioning that the screenshots were taken from my PC while I was watching the film.
De entrada, la primicia de la trama es suspenso, es hecha en Canadá y dirigida por la directora, también canadiense, Danishka Esterhazy. Desconozco por completo su trabajo pero, vuelvo y repito, me llamó la atención de qué iba el film. Nos muestran un internado de niñas muy… ¿frío?, no por el clima sino por la escenografía y la forma de la misma institución. Su función era crear niñas perfectas para que las adoptaran familias perfectas y cada año que ahí pasaban era un nivel alcanzado y recompensado (muy original). Todo bien de buenas a primeras, pero todo comienza a cambiar en seguida, cualquier conducta impropia de una señorita, era castigada y considerada impura después de eso, con lo cual era más difícil conseguir una familia que las quisiera. Un poco traumático todo. Bueno, nuestra protagonista, Vivien, fue castigada apenas en el nivel 10, era una impura, pero como rotaban de grupos constantemente, nadie recordaba a las demás compañeras, a excepción de Sophia, que, según eran amigas hasta ese nivel, después del castigo, Vivien la olvidó.
First of all, the plot is suspenseful, made in Canada and directed by the director, also Canadian, Danishka Esterhazy. I am completely unfamiliar with her work but, again and again, I was struck by what the film was about. We are shown a boarding school for girls that is very... cold, not because of the climate but because of the scenery and the shape of the institution itself. Its function was to create perfect girls to be adopted by perfect families and each year spent there was a level achieved and rewarded (very original). Everything was fine at first, but everything began to change immediately, any behavior unbecoming of a young lady was punished and considered impure after that, which made it more difficult to get a family who wanted them. It was all a bit traumatic. Well, our protagonist, Vivien, was punished just at level 10, she was an impure, but as they rotated groups constantly, nobody remembered the other classmates, except for Sophia, who, as they were friends until that level, after the punishment, Vivien forgot her.
Cada día era estrictamente planificado, hasta las tareas de limpieza, juegos, forma de dormir, todo tenía que ser perfecto. Llegan al dichoso nivel 16 y las vuelven a mudar de grupos; Vivien cae en el mismo grupo de Sophia, y esta última se alegra de volver a s ver a su “amiga” pero es ignorada. Ya a partir de aquí, empieza el desarrollo más aburrido, extendido y sin explicación que he visto últimamente. Ahí entendí por qué no había visto que alguien hablara sobre ella o que hubieran más reseñas de páginas importantes, y también comprendí por qué estaba en YouTube; no digo que todas las películas malas vayan a esta plataforma, solo que las buenas, buenas, no están aquí o al menos las recientes.
Every day was strictly planned, even the cleaning chores, games, sleeping arrangements, everything had to be perfect. They reach the 16th level and they are moved to another group; Vivien falls in the same group as Sophia, and Sophia is happy to see her "friend" again but she is ignored. From here on, the most boring, extended and unexplained development I've seen lately begins. There I understood why I hadn't seen anyone talking about it or more reviews from important pages, and I also understood why it was on YouTube; I'm not saying that all bad movies go to this platform, just that the good, good ones aren't here or at least the recent ones.
El punto es que se empezó a poner muy absurda, mostraban información pero no explicaban el origen de nada, las actuaciones no era muy buenas que digamos (no sé si será el primer rodaje de estas actrices).
⚠️ALERTA DE SPOILER⚠️:
Sophia sabía algunos de los secretos que ocurrían en esas paredes (que por cierto, ES MEDIO CIEGA, sabe muchas cosas, no consigue objetos cercanos pero sí que sabe parte del chisme. Muy pero que muy lógico), el internado no era más que una granja para las elites donde utilizaban a las niñas perfectamente sanas, con una piel excepcional, etc., para que las mujeres de estas élites pudieran utilizar su piel cuando ya se sintieran muy viejas y feas. Teniendo ya esa información, una no entiende el por qué las condiciones tan paupérrimas de las internas, literal parecía un prisión (con pasillos con la iluminación dañada, paredes peladas, filtraciones, camas de hierro…). Cuando por fin, Vivien y Sophia descubren la verdad, la cuentan a las demás, escapan y son rescatas después de… no se sabe qué tiempo (por cierto, ninguno de los matones pudo abrir la puerta de donde se encerraron porque según era de seguridad pero llegó la policía y la abrió como si nada) y ya, fin. Nunca explicaron de dónde surgió esa idea, quienes la financiaban a pesar de que nombraban a los patrocinadores (nunca los mostraron), tampoco se sabe qué pasó con el resto de niñas que se quedaron prisioneras y las que escaparon, qué clase de castigo impartían para que las llamaran impuras… nada. No dejan tampoco a la imaginación del espectador porque no dan nada, es lo que muestran solamente y ya.
The point is that it started to get very absurd, they showed information but did not explain the origin of anything, the performances were not very good (I don't know if it will be the first filming of these actresses).
⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️:
Sophia knew some of the secrets happening in those walls (which by the way, SHE IS HALF BLIND, she knows a lot of things, she doesn't get close objects but she does know some of the gossip. Very very logical), the boarding school was nothing more than a farm for the elites where they used perfectly healthy girls, with exceptional skin, etc., so that the women of these elites could use their skin when they already felt very old and ugly. Having this information, one does not understand why the conditions of the inmates were so poor, it literally looked like a prison (with corridors with damaged lighting, peeling walls, leaks, iron beds...). When Vivien and Sophia finally discover the truth, they tell the others, escape and are rescued after... we don't know how long (by the way, none of the thugs could open the door where they were locked up because they said it was security but the police arrived and opened it as if nothing had happened) and that's it, the end. They never explained where the idea came from, who financed it even though they named the sponsors (they never showed them), nor do we know what happened to the rest of the girls who were imprisoned and those who escaped, what kind of punishment they imposed to be called impure... nothing. Nor do they leave anything to the imagination of the viewer because they don't give anything, it's just what they show and that's it.
A pesar de todo eso, las estadísticas dicen que si hubo receptividad, tiene un 5.3/10 y 73% de aceptación según Fuentes. Me hace dudar un poco de mi criterio pero es que fue ¡totalmente vacía! Le faltó mayor desarrollo y credibilidad en el las actuaciones. Así que, muy a mi pesar no la recomiendo para nada, es muy mala. Y si hay alguien que sí le haya gustado este film y lo entendió, please, que me la explique porque me sentí estafada. Espero que las demás películas que vi y guardé de esa página de Facebook no sean así de malas. Hasta un próximo post, mis cinéfilos.
In spite of all that, the statistics say that there was receptivity, it has a 5.3/10 and 73% of acceptance according to Source. It makes me doubt my criteria a bit, but it was totally empty! It lacked more development and credibility in the performances. So, to my regret I don't recommend it at all, it's very bad. And if there is someone who did like this film and understood it, please explain it to me because I felt ripped off. I hope the other movies I saw and saved from that Facebook page are not this bad. Until a future post, my cinephiles.
