Creating a Business Object On Hive

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

In this tutorial, I will show you how you can create an object for your business on Hive and add advanced features to this business object.

The tutorial will cover:

  1. Basic Features

  2. Adding a Page

  3. Adding a list

  4. Adding a Button

  5. Adding a Custom News Feed

  6. Adding a Blog

  7. Adding a Form

  8. Sorting

  9. Authority

  10. Status

  11. Modify or Delete

  12. Gallery

  13. Reviews

  14. Final Remarks

Adding your business on Hive, such as a restaurant, a consulting group, an e-commerce shop, or a volunteering organization, allows you to reach a wider audience, and every time you write a post about your business, or someone references and writes a review about it – it will all be collected in this business object. Your clients and visitors can view all this information about your business in one place.

Slide31.png

Let’s create a business object!

Go to Waivio.com, click on a symbol to write a post

Slide1.png

–> Click on business -> Write the name of your business (in my example, I will put "Crypto Dine")

Slide2.png

-> Open the business object in a new tab (Crypto Dine)

Slide3.png

-> click Edit

Slide4.png

Now we can add basic information to our business.

1. Basic Features

Let’s start by adding an avatar image. Scroll down to the “Settings” section -> Click on the + symbol next to “Avatar” -> upload your image or paste an image link -> click “Submit

Slide5.png

In a similar way, you can add a Title and Background to the business.

Slide28.png

Under the “About” section, you can add other business details.

Slide29.png

Name: add an alternative name to your business to let your business be discovered with different names (such as CryptoDine and Crypto Dine)

Description: add a short description of your business.

Rating category: allows clients to rate your business by different categories, such as “Customer Service.”

Tags: add relevant tags to make your business more discoverable, such as #business #dining #rewards.

Gallery: upload photos of your business

Map: enter your business location latitude and longitude coordinates

Other business details: Price, Hours of operation, Address, Business website, Phone number, Email address and Social links (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, GitHub).

Slide30.png

After adding all this information, these business details will appear in the first column on the left.

Now we have added all the basic features to our business object. On Waivio, we can add more advanced features that we are used to seeing on the websites, such as pages, lists of documents, appointment schedules, event reservations, a news feed, company news and updates, and feedback forms.

2. Adding a Page

Let’s start by adding a page. A page is similar to a blog post and can contain text, images, videos, links, tables, etc.

A business may want to have a page such as an about page to introduce the business, a history page to talk about past events, a page about product demos, values, fees and so on.

For the page example, I will create an About page.

Click (+) Page -> click create new page -> write the name of your page (e.g., “About”) -> and click Confirm.

Slide6.png

Slide7.png

Once the page is created, you will see your “About” page in the menu panel on the left. Sometimes you may need to reload the website to see the page.

Click on the page to add text to it, and then click Ready to Publish. You can also click on the hyperlink, and this page will open in a new tab.

Slide8.png

This way, you will have more editing features. If you go to the Edit mode (of the page), you can add and modify text and even add an avatar to your page.

3. Adding a list

A business may want to have lists, such as a price list, a list of products and services, a list of offices, or a list of legal documents. We can create these lists using the structure “list”.

Click on (+) List -> click on “create new list” -> write the name of the list (e.g., “Legal”) -> click Confirm

Slide9.png

Now we can add files that will be inside this list. You can choose the type of object to be in the list: it can be another list, it can be a product, it can be a place. If we are adding legal documents, I recommend using a page object.

Slide10.png

You can create the pages by clicking “create new object” and selecting "page" from the drop-down menu. If you already have the pages that you want to add to this list, just search it and select the page you want to add -> then click Submit.

Slide11.png

This way, I added “Privacy Policy” and “Terms and Conditions”.

Now, if you go to the View Mode, you will see a field called “Legal” containing two pages – “Privacy Policy” and “Terms and Conditions”.

4. Adding a Button

A button is a link to an external website. When users click on the button, another website will open in a new tab. For your business, you can create a button for custom experiences such as bookings, orders, Uber eats, Door Dsh links, Amazon shop, etc.

Click on (+) Button -> in the title, write what you want to be displayed on the button (e.g., “Dine and Earn”) -> enter a link (e.g., crypto.dining.gifts) -> click Submit.

Slide12.png

In the view mode, you will see your button in bright orange, and when you click on it, the website that you added will open in a new tab.

If you made a mistake or want to change the website: go to Updates -> Under button update, click Reject, and the button will not show up in the menu panel. You can then add a new button with a different link.

5. Adding a Custom News Feed

** News Feed** is a constantly updating list of relevant posts posted by Hive users that you can incorporate into your business object. You can personalize your news feed by choosing what kind of posts you want to show on your business object.

Click on (+) News Filter -> Add a name to your News Feed (e.g., “Recent Posts”) -> then add filter rules to display only a specific type of posts.

For example, if you want to have a news feed showing posts about food recipes, you can write “food” and “recipe” in this FilterRule1 (this will show posts that contain both “foodANDrecipe” words in them)

Slide13.png

If you want to show posts that contain “foodORrecipe” keywords in them -> then you need to click (+) Add new rule and put “recipe” under this FilterRule2.

Slide14.png

When the keywords are under different filter rules, posts containing either of the keywords will be shown.

You can also filter out certain posts. For example, if you don’t want to see posts that are related to alcoholic drinks, you can filter it out by writing “alcohol” in the Ignore Rule.

Slide15.png

Another way to personalize your news feed is by choosing the type of object (e.g., a dish, a product, a place and etc.), and only the posts related to that category will be displayed on your newsfeed.

Slide16.png

For my business news feed, I want to show all the posts related to dishes, so I will select “dish”. When I go to the View mode and click on “Recent Posts”, I will see all the posts with reviews of different dishes.

6. Adding a Blog

Next, you can add a blog. Compared to News Feed, where posts are from different users, the blog shows posts from only ONE USER.

For example, this is where your clients can see your company’s updates and news.

Click (+) Blog -> add a title to your blog -> add a Hive User whose posts you want to show (e.g., @cryptodive). If you have a company user account, I recommend adding it here. Once you are done, click Submit.

Slide17.png

In the view mode, when you click on the “Blog”, you will see all the posts from the Hive User you chose.

7. Adding a Form

You can also add a form or a widget to your business. You can embed a Google form and Calendly so clients can view and fill out forms and book meetings without leaving your business object.

First, I will show you how to embed a Google form. You will need to have a link to your Google Form ready.

Google form is one of the most powerful tools for creating custom forms and surveys. For example, you can create a form for email subscription, event registration, ordering samples, contact information and so on.

Click (+) Form -> add a title to the form, such as “Sign Up to Newsletter”. Under "Columns", you can choose how much space you want the form to fill. For example, if you choose a middle column, the form will fill only the middle column, but if you choose “entire width”, the form will fill all three columns.

Then select whether you are adding a link or a widget. For Google Forms, select a link. Copy the Google Form link and paste it into the space provided. Then click Submit.

Slide18.png

Now you can see your Google form integrated into your business.

Similarly, you can add your Calendly, so your clients will be able to see your schedule and book an appointment with you. Have a link to your Calendly ready.

Click (+) Form -> add a title (e.g., Book Meeting). Under Columns, I recommend selecting Middle + Right. Then copy and paste your Calendly link.

After you submit it, you will see the Calendly extension on your business object, where your clients can book a meeting with you.

You can also add a widget to your business. A widget is an element that displays real-time data from a certain website. For example, a widget could display time, weather, prices of stocks and crypto coins.

To add a widget to our business object, we first need a code.

For example, if I want to create a Crypto Ticker Widget from Coinmarketcap that will display the price of Hive token, I can google “coinmarketcap widget,” and the first link (https://coinmarketcap.com/widget/ticker/) leads me to the widget information. I can type “hive” to create the Hive ticker widget. Then I can select and copy the widget code.

Slide20.png

In our business object, click (+) Form -> add a title -> under "Form title" choose widget -> paste your widget code here -> then click Submit.

Slide19.png

You will now see your widget.

8. Sorting

Our Menu panel is almost ready. Now the only thing left to do is to arrange the Menu items in the order we prefer. We can do that by clicking on (+) Custom sorting.

Here we can move around items to arrange them in our preferred way. I recommend the first item to be the About page because it’s the first page that will show up once someone visits your business, and your visitors can quickly learn about your business by reading it.

Slide21.png

9. Authority

I would also recommend claiming authority over your business object. You can do that by scrolling down to the Settings section. Click on (+) Authority -> choose Ownership -> Submit. This will allow you and anyone else who trusts your authority to display your business exactly as you intend it.

Slide23.png

You can also claim ownership authority over all your pages and lists.

10. Status

If this business becomes unavailable or you want to hide this business object, you can click on (+) Status -> choose Unavailable -> Submit, and this business object will not show up in the search results.

Slide24.png

11. Modify or Delete

If you want to make any changes or delete any information -> go to the Updates and Reject the information that’s not relevant anymore.

Slide25.png

12. Gallery

One more thing, if you go to the Gallery section – by default, there are two albums: Photos and Related. Photos album will have the images uploaded specifically for this business. In the related album will be all the photos contained in the posts that reference your business.

You can also add custom album folders with (+) Add new album.

Slide22.png

13. Reviews

In the Reviews, you will see any posts that reference your business.

You can reference your business in your Hive posts and comments by adding a link to this business object (or searching the object under “Attach hashtags, objects, pages, etc.)”, and these posts will automatically appear in the Reviews section.

Slide26.png

Slide27.png

14. Final Remarks

Now that you learnt all the different features that you can use to build your business object, I encourage you to add your own business on Hive and play around with different features. Even if you don’t have a business yet, you can practice creating a business object for your hobby.

Let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
