HBD Interest Payouts For August 2021

Another month has gone by, and Hive is still paying out 10% interest on HBD in Savings. Let's take a look at the historical HBD interest payouts and how it changed in August.

In March total interest payout was 10,429 HBD to 6415 accounts.
In April total interest payout increased to 12,208 HBD to 7106 accounts.
In May total interest payout increased again to 16,574 HBD to 7250 accounts.
In June total interest payout almost doubled to 36,883 HBD to 7167 accounts.
In July total interest payout decreased to 1,696 HBD to 682 accounts.
In August total interest payout increased to 5,646 HBD to 1062.

As you can see payouts for August are not at pre-hardfork highs yet, but they did go up significantly. Number accounts receiving interest payouts has gone up as well. This shows there are people who are interested in 10% APR gains.

Pre-hardfork payouts are not really a good comparison, since mainly exchanges were receiving these payouts just for holding their user fund and not making a financial decision. Now those are receiving interest payouts are making these financial decisions to take advantage of 10% APR.

I believe many more would want move their funds into Savings to gain 10%, if this wasn't on Hive. Because on Hive people can earn similar gains with powering up Hive and participating in social layer to receive curation rewards. I personally prefer having Hive Power instead of HBD in savings. HP can also earn about 10% in curation rewards, gives opportunities to be more active on Hive, and also there is potential of Hive price going up 10x or more.

HBD being a stable coin and having mechanisms in place that try to keep it pegged, those who invest in HBD probably do not do so anticipate higher HBD prices in the future. It is a great token to use as savings and while waiting for better investment opportunities. 10% APR is a good return, especially when USD keeps losing its purchasing power over the years due to continues printing and increase of the supply.

A couple of weeks ago, Anthony Pompliano interviewed Kevin O'Leary on his podcast. Kevin said he was increasing his allocation for bitcoin and cryptocurrencies from 3% to 7% and perhaps even more. One thing he mentioned was very interesting. He said he was focused on getting more stable coins for the gains interests. Somebody contact Kevin and let him know that we have a good investment opportunity here. :) I doubt he is getting 10% anywhere else.

Last I checked Coinbase had 4% APR for USDC. I don't know what other places offer for other stable coins. But I haven't seen anything close to 10%. If you know any stable coin that offers 10% or more please share in the comments.

I am predicting 10K+ in payouts for the next month of September. What do you think?

I do think HP has higher bullish potential but HBD is nice due to the stability. Of course, the peg hasn't exactly held this month but it hasn't been pushed towards $2 like previous pumps so I still think its pretty good.

It seems this time HBD price going up for a different reason like taking advantage of 10%. At the same time higher HBD is making converting Hive to HBD a bit profitable, and in the end making Hive price go up too?

I believe that could also be a reason. Do you know if there is plenty of HIVE to HBD conversion going on? As long as HBD is higher than $1.05, I expect people to continue trading in things.

I am predicting 10K+ in payouts for the next month of September. What do you think?

I probably depends largely on $HBD price and availability of conversion to $HIVE.

Also, I wonder if interest still will be paid when we will hit the haircut.

Interest isn't affected by the haircut

That is a good question, I would like to know the answer to that as well. My guess is haircut doesn't stop interest payouts, and only stops printing HBD as authors' rewards.

And conversion? There should be a limit at some place IMO.

Conversions are blocked when the limit is reached.

HBD mechanics as a stable coin have been way improved lately and with the good 10% APR on savings together with the feature of converting directly HIVE to HBD (5% commission) to deflate the price when goes much over $1, seems to do the trick.

Myself included I am saving and locking the HBD for the good return provided, so probably the interest payouts will only increase.

I agree, HBD is an awesome coin. It hasn't been discovered outside of Hive yet.

10% is an attractive figure for sure.

Your comparison between HP and HBD is interesting.

there is potential of Hive price going up 10x or more.

Regarding that statement, one thing to add, for people making a decision on what to invest in is that, the interest on HBD is guaranteed (for now) whereas the hope for an increase in Hive is not. We hope that the price of Hive will increase significantly but it may not increase at all. There's a lot to consider when trying to decide where to invest in.

Yes, it is about risks and rewards. I think at some point Hive will have to be more expensive than HBD or go to zero :).

Hopefully not zero though lol

I don't see mass adoption/payment usage with the 5% collateral converting fee anytime soon :)

IMO it is stupid, low hive price would be the best thing for HBD converting. Remove as much hive as possible at these prices :)

Later the pain level is higher if Hive hits 5$+

I don't see the connection between converting fee and using HBD as payments. What do you mean? If an App decides to accept payments in HBD, it doesn't really have to be involved in conversions. Isn't conversion system there to help with the peg?

simple demand. We need to stop thinking on low scale. What about if the demand is 10M HBD? or 100M HBD?

yup, a 5% fee would destroy a demand at this point.

So we never come (fast) to these levels.

Stablecoins need to work on demand. I need stablecoin, I can trade it. I don't need it, I sell.

The fee hasn't been the slightest impediment to increasing HBD supply so far. That may change in the future, and the fee may change too.

cheap and stable as possible should be the goal.

IMO we could also think about an upgrade to the HBD ecosystem, like you already know:

A onchain pool Hive/HBD with 10% interest. Liquidity will be the ultimate tool here.

Maybe ( would be super cool) allow against a fee to create more pools with wrapped tokens. Like an Dex. The fee could be high, the tokens we want as hive users we could add on-demand. And if some random token wants to get listed, Pay for the listing :)

In general, an expansion from the onchain market :)

monthly payment contracts/subscriptions (something we already have? not sure what it is)

Activate the escrow service ( i know it is) in a useful way everyone can use ( maybe make it open enough for multichain smart contracts?)

Internal market for Rcs via HBD for payments.

I know some of that could be easy dapps. But everything we add to the HBD ecosystem makes it longterm stronger. Special Tools.

Nice post, I am happy to read this article

Thank You.

I would say the Mr @shikoku has a nice position 🍇

@geekgirl I find your publication very interesting, I had no idea about percentage by savings. I am still getting to know Hive, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Hi, it´s very interesting. i'm new in this game and i'm learning
