Recently I shared with the community my plan to move from South Africa to the Republic of Benin. This was a plan that suddenly came to life about five months now, normally moving from one country to the other takes months or years to plan but in my case, it is almost like getting up to move and would have moved if I wasn't hanging around so I can get the money owed to me.
There's a reason behind my confidence and hope to leave a country that I have lived in for 15 years and move to another to go and settle down.
The Reason
Simply put I wouldn't be making this move if Hive hasn't been part of my life.
Over the years South Africa was home to me and there was not a moment when I thought of moving back home, so I have no investments or any business to fall back on when I get home in just about four weeks from now.
Aside from my Telecom career with the hope of getting a job in Benin, I have no other source of income aside from Hive.
It didn't take long for me to spot the opportunities Hive offers earlier on in my Hive journey which is to build a stake to a level I can live off it or be part of my major source of income.
I wouldn't say I am where I want my Hive stake to be now but it is looking great with great potential for the upside.
2020 was a tougher year for me, I had a glimpse of Hive's impact on my life as I survived on my Hive earnings for about three months.
Therefore Hive is already impacting my finance a great deal. It gives me the confidence to move back home and not be a nuisance to anyone, fortunately, I have no family yet.
Flight Booked
I booked my flight in December 2022, for 27th February to depart from South Africa. I was hoping to avoid booking my flight through Hive earnings but since it is taking longer and no date of when I will get my money till present, I decided it was best to withdraw HBD from my savings for my flight.
537 HBD, which is the highest I have withdrawn from my Hive wallet at once. My flight was approximately 406 HBD and the with 131 HBD went towards other expenses.
2022 wasn't the best year for the cryptocurrency market price-wise, fortunately, we have HBD (Stablecoin) to help keep curb losses due to price drops in addition to the 20% APR it offers in savings.
It would have been a major dipping into my Hive stake if I had to sell Hive at the kind of price levels we have now.
A lot of thought is running through my mind as I write this article about Hive's impact on my life, I know some Nigerian friends here in SA that wish to go home, I shared my plans with them but they can't make the move I am about to make due to not having any source of income back home.
It is a scary thought and to be honest I wouldn't be embarking on this move if I had no Hive to support me.
We owe it to ourselves to make Hive great

It would be the best thing ever. I would definitely put in more HBD and book flights to countries I wanted to travel immediately.

2020 was a good year for me. I earned more than I have ever earned in my life thanks to crypto. But, then came the taxes. I think I will try to match it next year, and more. I'll just have to save up for taxes.
But, I understand how Hive and crypto can give you confidence. One feels more control over one's destiny with crypto.
That is true and I have begun the saving process again throwing every HBD into savings as they come in.
Crypto is giving up hope in life, there's a belief and positive way of life that is developed mentally for being involved in crypto, which is the catalyst behind my decision.

I can completely relate. I was only able to move from my hometown to a different City in my country away from everyone I knew because I knew I had Hive.
And I have been here for a year and 1 month, and Hive has been my only source of income.

Never got to spend too much time in Joburg, mostly have been in Cape Town and the Eastern Cape. Drove out to see Qunu, where Nelson Mandela was born, there is an awesome little museum there.
SO much potential for SA, but also so much terrible history and inequality to overcome :(
Great, travel experience you had, I have been to most major cities of SA. Except for Cape Town, though I was opportune to travel due to the nature of my job.
I was in Qunu as well, and other Eastern Cape cities, PE being my favorite.
SA is a big country rich in various aspects and I do agree with you there are inequalities to overcome and history has its impact as well.

Pretty inspirational I would say however crypto coming to your rescue when there was no fiat option both in terms of earning and spending speaks volumes of a use case of hive in real world.
Just one questions what were your exchange options was it peer to peer p2p route that you took or was it some site /entity that let you book flight ticket with crypto?
What are the crypyo regulations like in SA
It would be great if you could walk us through the steps like what happend after you took your hbd out the exchanges intermediary involved (exchanges etc)
The crypt- fiat exchange process etc that you undertook would be good to know so that other can emulate the example

Apologies for only responding now, the past week have been extremely busy for me.
I didn't pay for the flight with HBD directly, I had HBD converted to USD since we know HBD to USD is almost 1:1 to make easy payment.
Basically, I sold HBD for Hive on the internal exchange, then sold Hive on Binance, and the last exchange I used was Luno, which I withdrew to bank account.
Crypto regulation in SA has been fairly accommodating compared to other countries banning crypto, though the country taxes crypto gains so one needs to be mindful of that.

Hive is the best I must say. I have survived many times all because of this Blockchain. And to say that it even gives room to earn from other opportunities like Hbd and even the second layer tokens, this is amazing.
Selling your hive right now could be a bad move but HBD was there to help you out.
