DHF Proposal Funding Returned to HIVE Developer Community as HBD Stabilizer Scaled Back!

After what ended up amounting to an interesting experiment and a somewhat demoralizing shakeup within the HIVE developer community for a bit there, it seems that steps have begun to be taken to restore a sustainable equilibrium between developers funding and the HBD Stabilizer experiment after a tense number of weeks filled with uncertainty amongst the community. Prior to a few days ago, basically the entirety if not all of the DHF/DAO daily HBD funding allowance was being used to fuel the HBD Stabilizer experiment, which lead to developer proposals regardless of being located above the payout threshold line not being eligible nor receiving funding due to proposals above it belonging to HBD Stabilizer utilizing the entirety of funding taking precedence. Glad to report that DHF funding is once again finding its way to our development group.

DHF Funding and The Future of HIVE

Now while the dust of this whole situation begins to clear the room it needs to be put forward that I don't truly believe that the HBD Stabilizer experiment was put in place and supported by the governing stakeholders in order to enrich themselves, but rather served as an experimental attempt at wrangling the peg price which wasn't particularly effective but that as a side effect of it's action did some good in regards to "refueling" the funds within the DHF/DAO present here on HIVE. As a community it is vital to keep replenishing the DHF/DAO fund in order to be able to support the individuals within the developer community that lack their own personal funds to offset what can sometimes be lengthy R&D cycles put into projects before they are completed and begin to provide income for said developer. While I have my doubts on if the top tier stakeholders will ever consider supporting my own project proposals in the future due to me being extremely vocal against their decision making and possible motives, it's quite a weight off my chest to see that DHF funds being rerouted back into the developer communities pockets where it's most needed.

As we move forward it's something to keep in the back of all of our minds, the fact that in order for HIVE as a network to succeed it needs to have not only a numerous userbase, attractive use cases to drive demand and proper marketing, but also a dedicated core developer group, as well as a greater 3rd party / non-core developer group responsible for building and operating prior mentioned use cases to drive demand.

A network without a compelling reason to purchase it's currency not only serves to act as a drain of prosperity and time, but ultimately serves to effectively prove all involved as fools for not focusing on the various aspects required to make a network such as HIVE not only sustainable long term but also profitable for all involved, not just those at the top percentiles of token / coin holding. If and when a system is setup and exists that's action directly or indirectly serves to extract wealth and time from its users and transfer it to any entity besides the greater community, then said system will always end up collapsing due to the fact that neither wealth nor time are infinite assets and will eventually be exhausted if not reinvested towards the source. The DHF/DAO here on HIVE is no exception to this reality and I hope to see a shift towards sustainability being baked in to successful proposals in the form of revenue generated by projects seed funded by DHF in some percentage being pumped back into it.

A Golden Thorn Stuck Waaaaay Up HIVE's Ass

I am not the most respected, talented nor appreciated member of the developer group active here on HIVE. If you took a poll amongst the top 20 you'd likely find that a pretty decent percentage think of me as some over-opinionated loose cannon asshole, perhaps they are correct. Arguably some would consider me to be the pond scum that floats on top of the developer pond which the others swim amongst each other in.

However, regardless of how large stake holders (or anyone for that matter) perceive me or tend to think of me as, that doesn't negate the fact that not only was I the first developer in our community to prototype the idea of implementing permanent DHF sustainability payments, paid for via future project revenue into DHF from their upcoming service, but also one of, if not the only (I'm sure I wasn't though) developer to publicly say to hell with silence and complacency towards the decision making of the top tier stake holders proceeded by launching a campaign that less than eloquently raised the issue to those responsible for putting the HBD Stabilizer experiment priority ahead of the development community support.

If this had any effect beyond me getting yelled at and it being hinted at that I'm retarded.. I cannot say for sure, but seeing that developers on HIVE today are once again getting paid, regardless of if my actions had anything to do with it, served the intended purpose that expressing the concerns myself and the community had hoped to achieve. The title of this section sort of says it all..

While I might not be the most popular amongst those in power due to taking my crude method of communication of concerns personally or simply viewing me as a threat to their business or power it stands true to say that I'm bringing forward good things here and actively working towards making our ecosystem not only sustainable but competitive against other crypto networks on the market.

Between the soon to begin testing Hive.Loans service which will all but erase the powered up HIVE liquidity issue caused by having to wait 13 weeks for a powerdown, ultimately side stepping what in my opinion was from the start an incredible deterrent to outside capital investment, to the introduction of sustainability of the DHF fund through projects tithing back some percentage of future revenue, to my Hive Smart Chain project that will not only bring industry standard smart contract support to HIVE but actually make it competitive in todays crypto ecosystem... it's not like I'm some absolute shitbrains troll here harassing people for no reason other then to get a boner or cause chaos, I'm bringing change, innovation, talent all while trying to fix shit around here that were long held as things we were simply expected to accept and not question.

And if that isn't worth supporting just because at some point I was questioning whatever motives or justification someone or some group had, and they took it personally and got soured resulting in them deciding they'd no longer support me in some lame attempt to starve me out and force me to go to another community... then that's their own ego or butthurt standing in the way of our entire communities future growth all the while them failing to realizing exactly how god damn important it is to have out of the box maverick innovators in your ecosystem, even if they are downright asinine or going off on things in a mis-informed or incorrect way at times.

Love me or Hate me.. That's fine, the amount of fucks I give about what people think of me is null. But at the end of the day, even after all this, and it should really go without saying but I'm gonna re-iterate it again: if you don't support developers, innovators and inventors.. you know, the sort of people who ultimately are not only passionately dedicated to the network and community but who also are able to bring far more value both in terms of generating completely paradigm shifting ideas and the ability to code them into useable services than some comfy whale whose beyond the point of being hungry enough to be truly innovative.. Then you're ultimately letting your own egos and ability to power trip and dictate who will be a success blind you, all the while hurting the whole community and effectively barring everyone from the benefits this absolute fucking gold mine of talent and future potential you've got currently on HIVE will yield.. And that's just god damn silly no matter who you are or how big your stake is.

With all this being said, I'm glad the development group here on HIVE is getting paid again. Developers are effectively the ones at the end of the day that will build use cases that give people a reason to buy or hold HIVE.. And without a fleet of developers building and innovating there will be next to no reason for anyone to buy HIVE or find justification in investing their capital into this shit, because as it sits HIVE isn't particularily attractive nor compelling to buy.. But there are people working towards flipping the tables on that, you just have to support them and let them in turn support creation of demand. It's stupidly simple concept, costs basically nothing out of pocket due to DHF footing the bill and ultimately ends in the entire ecosystem as a whole benefitting from the largest whale right down to the brand new noob account. If we could muster up support to dump $50K a day into the god damn markets to pump the price or wrangle the HBD peg or whatever, why doesn't $50K a day get thrown at project development which is almost certainly going to produce waaaaay more value..? Seems like a fuckin' no brainer to me.

Put any ego or hurt feelings aside, and invest into our developer community if you want to help HIVE thrive. .

Mate it’s such a change to see people arguing about what is the optimal development pathways rather than arguing about whether it’s appropriate for people to be posting literal pictures of shit on peoples shit posts . Those who have been here for the long haul will know what I am talking about ; it’s amazing to see the change in Hive and the rate of development . I can’t speak for the personalities involved in your recent discussions but if you can deliver working solutions to half of what your taking about in this post you will be well respected around here .

Aye, one of the resounding problems is that not only have I stood up for the community against those who effectively decide if I get funded or not, but atleast in regards to one of my projects one of the top tier stakeholders is working on their own HIVE based smart contracts and may decide they don't want competition and snuff out funding support in order to be first on the market.

I can deliver all sorts of solutions, both as HIVE use cases and in the form of viable changes to current functions or methods.. But unless the top tier accounts support or implement them, then I could have an idea that could make us all millionaires put forward but have it passed over simply because I'm not subservient or complacent to those who effectively decide all of our fate via being able to control the network, its proposals and who is successful here simply due to their stake outweighing all of us combined.

Yes but that is how stake based systems are designed to work. Those with the most to loose (and gain) have the most influence . The alternative is verified democracy like Voice with KYC for each individual to protect from sock puppets . But I don’t think anyone wants that .

Sock puppets are pretty easy to detect. The systems I'm working on require a bonded/staked minimum then you're good to go.. For a governance model system having it pay to win is fucking stupid and promotes the matthew effect.

To fix HIVE I'd implement 1 to one votes and then determine if an account is valid for voting in consensus by it's recent activity.. It's pretty fucking hard to fake actual human account usage but easy as hell to detect automated bot spam text that would be used to game the system. Remove the bias towards the network encouraging those already possessing money and power to untouchably end up determining all our fates on here and reestablish the community as the ones who determine things and we'd see a far greater increase in outside interest as the current lack of a non-centralized governance decision is hurting the chain and it's attractiveness to serious outside investment more than anything me thinks.

I wish I could share your enthusiasm in automated spam bot detection but our experience trying to eliminate spam is that its not that easy. Having some automated spam bot determine if your vote is eligible sounds a terrible idea to me and one that is easily manipulated by the bot algorithm. Hive is actually much more widely distributed then almost anything else out there; so I am not sure its hurting outside investment (plenty of centralized chains getting lots of investment).

It's not just a spam detection bot you'd put in place. Metrics like transfers, comments, claims, etc etc all need monitored and cross referenced to detect patterns or possible automation of the metrics being used to determine if it's real people or not.

Not saying it's something that would be an easy implementation nor perfect by any means. It's merely a thought experiment on a possible solution. Probably a terrible idea as you state. lol

So far my favourite would be if top 20 couldn't vote for top 20.. We'd see an incredible difference in witnesses and stake distribution if the creation of voting pacts within the top 20 was made invalid. still gameable but easier to detect.

Anything centralized that is getting investment is a whole generational step above our current functionality for the most part. And we're effectively centralized at this point regardless of the hundred or more witnesses. One company hosts over half the witness servers, and the central decision making ability resides in the top 10 active accounts rather than the greater community. As for actual distribution you mentioned.. Eh, I wouldn't consider it that, although lots of accounts do hold it.

No system is perfect, DPOS included. Appreciate the reply and share of thought. :D

You're one of a few that fucking get it. i dont know if it's logic or what it is but dont stop.

It's blatant disregard for my own favour with those who control things in favour of making sure the community isn't just steamrolled and completely disregarded in the decision making process that ultimately resides in a group of less than 10 people. We'll see here later today if the actions taken lead to any future support I might have being dashed or what.

What I like is your metaphorical take on yourself as a developer 😂
Anyone who can tell the difference between a string and a boolean deserves a minimum of respect.

As far as I am concerned, I thank you for enriching my vocabulary of swear words. It slows down my reading of your posts, but maybe one day it will allow me to fight on equal terms with a troll.

This made me giggle upon reading man. Thank you for the honourable(?) mentions and sharing that I've taught you atleast something in all these years.

I hope your development efforts here are always held in far higher regards than mine are, andt that you are able to swear with the best (worst) of us when the time arise to do so. <3
