Alt-Social Media Article on ZeroHedge Ignores Hive

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

With another round of purging from social media, people are looking for alternatives. Where does Hive stand in random recommendations on alt-news sites?

The big tech censorship continues, and Twitter is the spotlight along with Apple, Google and Amazon. Facebook is also silencing people too, having muted the Ron Paul account recently for the first time.

One may think it's "conservatives" or the right-leaning that are seeking to find greener pastures after their fellow ideologues have been cast out of their "public square". But "anarchists"/"voluntaryists" or what have you, are no fan or censorship, normally. There are also those who are true "liberals" and may be considered on the "left" that care about free speech. Where are they to go?

An article from Sovereign Man was posted on ZeroHedge titled As Tech Companies Purge Users, Here Are Some Alternatives. Alas, good news has arrived for the thousands (hundreds of thousands?) who view Zerohedge everyday.

But wait, where is Hive? The name might be new, but its more or less the OG Steem crowd, yet even Steem has no mention.

I wrote a comment to mention #hive and #threespeak. Maybe some will see it and decide to come by. Maybe a few of them will decide to try it out. And maybe a few those will stick around.

The complexity of hive is something that might be confusing for many. It sure takes getting used to. I wonder if the UIs could suggest some newbie-welcoming communities to post into as their first post. That might help people start off better.

Anyhoot, what do you think? Do you wanna go shoot a comment on the article and mention hive? Maybe it will help get the word around. Maybe not. We can try.

Imagine!
4000 people think one thing, and 50 million plus internet users think another thing...- but we 'know we are right' - right?...

It's almost as if 'they' know something that we've might have missed...
It's almost as if people look at the proposition and then that decide the apple pie doesn't taste as nice as was advertised.
It's almost as though they see through a tight oligarchical structure that rewards it's own greatly, supports nepotistic behaviors, and penalizes those who don't agree to the rules, while at the same espousing the solidarity of the 'hive mind'.

It's almost as though the normies might not be a stupid as we thought...
....or is it that the 4000 users are of such high Iq, that our concepts wash over 'the normies' , as it's far above their cognitive abilities?

After all, it can be extremely difficult to copy and paste a long line of numbers to log in to an account...Normies would never know about that cntrl c /cntrl v functions...

Ok, maybe a tad sarcastic (moi? sarcastic?) .... but you see my point?

Maybe it's time for a revolution on Hive...and in 12 days time...I might just be up for the job!
It doesn't require stake, just spine.

I think we might have been looking at this model all wrong...

...if seen from a blogging/social media/news/free speech platform, perspective - and not a financial instrument to get rich from - point of view.
...and which, if fixed, (paradoxically) - will increase the platform size and token value.

...Some deep dives concerning all this coming this week! - from a non techy, stupid, thicky, normy!

We must bow to the stake overlords, only they know the way!

....yeah, I ain't taking that shit just because of few quid...keep watching.
We've been dancing to the wrong tune.
I'm busy composing...

Cryptic comment laced w sarcasm and maybe a bit of cynicism. What happens in 12 days exactly?

Awwww, that would be telling! lol

....a post coming up in the next hour (or three) , just to get the ball rolling...
(it does not tell you what I'm 'thinking' - but it does give you an indication of my direction...)

gotta break some eggs to make an omelette...

reeee normies!

Hive/Steem doesn't have private groups. In fact there is no privacy at all. Everything you do is recorded in a blockchain for all to see. In other social networks you can make things visible for certain groups only.

It would actually be surprisingly easy to create encrypted channels on Hive. We even have the Memo key for that exact purpose. Arguably the vast majority of such communication doesn't even have to be on the blockchain. It's really just a matter of creating these systems if there is actually demand to have them.

I think there's a little too much of "everything has to go on the blockchain".. lol. Its good for all the UIs to use, but not practical.

Yeah I think once we have peer-to-peer systems people will really start having their minds blown. That's why I was so excited when Tron and Justin Sun bought BitTorrent back in the day (2018) but then I realized he's nothing but a corporate tool looking to extract value rather than create it. Doesn't matter though all these systems are open-source anyway.

Suppose I were to decide to implement this. Would you like to support that as a Hive proposal? It will work as a Typescript-React component.

You want to submit a PR for the hive.blog condenser with the group encrypted channels to have something like FB does?

Yes. I want to see it available on every front end. Including when users are on distinct front-ends.

Good point. Nearly 5 years later and many of the features people like are still missing...

I was pretty disappointed after a 3 year hiatus. The only new thing are communities and I hate it!

LeoFinance UI is decent but that's about it.

Still good to be back :)

Welcome back hehe. I find it pretty lame as well that in 5 years these are the current features to try to attract or retain users...

Well, the Lions are making a lot of hype around their new projects like microblogging and stuff. I'm sceptic but hope never dies.

I also created an account on ZeroHedge to post a comment under this article, sadly I did not find any other Hiver i could push...

If 1 million new users came tomorrow, would hive be ready to meet this demand? What I see most is new users who don't even have Resource Credits to interact with the blockchain.

I've been noticing new users lacking resource credits too. A few have messaged me and I try to give them advice. Can't delegate to them all 😅
#introduceyourself posts need to be encouraged more from the get go that way they can earn enough HP their first 7 days to actually transact on the blockchain. Of course that means we need users to constantly curate that tag.

RC pools will make this a lot easier.

Ready? No. Devs don't seem to care much about those issues of letting new ppl post...

Im more of baffled than shocked, I honeslty cannot say these big tech guys dont know about Hive, the most they can do is offer their opinion even if they hate it, but instead they choose to outrightly ignore it....it begs me to question, all these people clamouring for a decentralized tech, do they really want it? Or is it for clout?

Maybe they don't like how anyone can get tokens in DPOS, and they like POW so that it takes tech and money to make the tokens which keeps it in their hands?

Not shocking it’s not getting press. I don’t know why there’s such distaste in the alt spaces to recommend hive. It was thankfully highlighted by Broze and Ryan Christian in a video on alternatives but it wasn’t paid attention to by the other people in the video.

Yeah they both mentioned it. They make a decent amount from posting their content here and everywhere.

Hive is not part of fight club. And we all know what the first rule is. ;)

What club? ;)

"Where are they go?", indeed.

Maybe Hive should fix some basics, like having text show up properly? You've got a line beginning with a period, for example. This glitch has been helping the place look like crap for a few months now, and is just one of dozens that showed up after the last big "upgrade" that has yet to be fixed.

If we can't bother sweeping our floor or keeping our appliances running, why would anyone want to come over to visit?

Such bugs have nothing to do with the "last big upgrade". That's got to be an error with the interface you're using, such as hive.blog, peakd, etc. If you notice a bug like that, report it in the gitlab repo, or if you're not sure how to do that, report it to someone you know that can likely do that.

Hi @krnel

I like the value that Hive can take as an alternative to other social networks

Well, I'll just write my own alt-social media article and I'll make Hive the feature platform!

And publish it where? Gl ;)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

On my own website, where it will be seen by no less than 5 people! Well, 3 of those "people" are probably bots.

Is that a new UI you are developing?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I always mention Hive on videos or blogs to spread the word, I think it'll have an effect if many of us do it

WINE Current Market Price : 1.100 HIVE

I was corresponding with the guy behind this initiative a few months ago. He was very receptive and appreciative being pointed in the direction of hive, peakd, 3speak etc. I shared it in the HIVE marketing discord, alas nothing eventuated with it as..
as it seems that it's a few people like you who are actively engaging with the current events from a perspective of a pro-hive #hivewillfixthis point of view.

Maybe he just didn't know about HIVE when he wrote that article.

I mention hive over on TheDonald whenever I see an opportunity to do so. Got like 200 upvotes recently so probably thousands of views on that one comment.

@zero-hedge was posting a lot to Steemit but I guess it was just a fan account

Sad they don't know/talk about us
