How to get yourself on stage on a TEDx event

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

A few years ago I did a TEDx talk in Bergen, Norway and it's now close to 90.000 views!
A lot of people who are in a possession of a great idea or knowledge ask me how to do you get on stage at a TEDx event.

Well there are in my eyes two ways.

One, become a public speaker, have an idea worth spreading, and become really good at it. I was contacted by the TEDx team because they had heard about me in the news and from other people who had seen me live before, and knew I had a good talk about challenges for young entrepreneurs and how to overcome it. Thats one way of doing it.

The second way is to get all of your network to recommend you to a TEDx team locally so that they cant miss out you. Imagine if 10 of your colleagues or friends write to a local TEDx team and says "Hey you should really invite this person xxx to your event who is an expert about xxx and has a really great talk about it. " That should get them to notice you and up your chance of getting featured on stage.

If you were invited to a TEDx talk, what would you speak about?

Cheers Max, a serial entrepreneur from Norway and a public speaker.
PS: here is my 10 min talk

When I was first starting to get passionate about learning new things and wanting to do more than just the A4 expectations, TED was my go-to source for inspiration (that lovely 2010-2014 era when it was really amazing!). At that time, doing a TED talk on the need for and benefits of space exploration was my biggest dream of all :)

Perhaps I should still give that a go.

This is really cool ! I just finished watching your talk. I'm curious, which skills did you have at 18 that made you win the startup weekend and how did you manage to convince the 35 year old engineer ? In retrospect which skills do you think are the most valuable to pursue ?

@howo ! I actually participated at 3 startup weekends and won 2, and got 3rd place in one of them, and was also a mentor at one :) I think the most important skill to learn is to sell and do good presentations. You can have the best idea at a startupweekend or in life, but if you cant convince the investors to join or the judges to believe in it, its no use.
