An overview of my expenditure on the Land so far. (I did a spreadsheet!)

in LeoFinance3 years ago

I'm quite pleased with my level of 'spending restraint' on the land so far. Not including the land purchase or any necessary items I'd bought previously, I've only spent around 2K EU on Land stuff since I took ownership of it about three weeks ago (and crikey time flies!)

Expenditures in Portugal...

Cost of the land purcahse

Unsurprisingly, this has been the most expensive so far, and TBH for 24K EU I got a bargain - and the tax and lawyer/ translator fee were perfectly manageable and reasonable and the tax hardly broke the bank either. I'm very happy with this.

The Stihl

The professional quality brush cutter I bought has already seen a lot of use and it's worth every penny - I think there's possibly more of the land I need to use it on than don't need to use it on!

This is the single most expensive item I've bought in a while, but it's one of those long-term money saver investments - compared to the cost of paying someone else to strim back brush every 6 months I just do it myself with relative ease with this tool, and for only a few squid in fuel and service costs

Other expensive items

It's not an 'item' but I do have to pay this bloke to come help me do land clearance, but it's worth it - he's a nice guy, he knows a lot and damn is he efficient with a chainsaw! Doing brash clearance on my own would be utterly soul destroying, but it's a pleasure working with someone else!

Water butt - one of those hideous blue barrels - it's just essential as a temporary water holder to make kitchen duties functional, although I've yet to install it!

Wood burning stove - this won't be used until probably October, but it was buy it now or never - I picked up a beautiful little glastonbury burner for £165 - perfect for my little house!

I almost want it to get cold again so I can fire this up!

Ladder - again I probably won't need this for a month or so when I start on the house, but I thought I'd get it in early.

Other bits an bobs

Most of my other expenditure items have been either a gardening tools - mainly gardening, or 'woodworking' tools, like the drill bits.

I've also had to buy seconds of some stuff now I have two bases - like the stove, and tea making and basic kitchen stuff.

I've had max fun on a couple of shopping trips stuffing the car full:

Other stuff I bought before

I guess if I'm doing a realistic cost analysis of setting up on new land I have to include some other essentials such as those below - about £1K EU for that lot.....

Screenshot 2021-04-02 at 18.48.45.png

All of this stuff is exclusively for camping, so I think it's fair enough to include it all in my capital costs.

final thoughts - on this being just the beginning!

I've got a lot more I'll need to spend to get set up properly on the land - in the short term this month I'll be buying an electric chainsaw (and trying to get the notion that this is a toy out of my head!) Some large water butts, and some construction materials for my first structure, once I've decided what that is!

And in the longer term, who knows - I could end up spending 10s of thousands on a water system and a better house.

But that's something to worry about much later on!

In the meantime I'm happy keeping my expenditure at around 1K EU a month. That means I don't have to drain any more of my capital, which is the goal!
