Where the Rubber meets the Road

in LeoFinance2 years ago

It is that time.
New tyre time.
And they are expensive.

However, considering they are instrumental in holding the car to the road, good tyres are necessary in my opinion, especially when road and weather conditions vary so heavily.

660€ for the ones I picked up and while good, they aren't the most expensive by far. However, I am not exactly hard on them, since I drive like a grandma with feathers for feet.

These days.

For those who haven't seen winter tyres

I was talking with a friend who was deciding on a car seat and was going to go for the safest. But in my opinion, rather than spending 600€ on a chair, spend less and improve the tyres, check the suspension, get defensive driving lessons - these things will make far more statistical difference than the variation in baby seats from mid to high range.

He bought the expensive seat.

And the next time he changed, cheap tyres.

His thinking was that there was no need to spend the extra 150€ on the tyres because he doesn't drive that often, but the extra 300€ on the seat was justifiable. I reckon this is a psychological bias, where we favor "what we see" over what we don't, and as a result, take what is not in our constant awareness, for granted.

Obviously, this applies to what we use also, where we will spend on all kinds of things that might not make much difference to our lives, but neglect what impacts quite heavily. Think about what the average person spends on clothes or entertainment, but that same person will complain about the price of food, or say that they don't have enough to invest.

IMG_20220511_095312.jpg

And of course, we are predisposed to choose what we can "touch" over what we cannot, which is why so many take the bird in the hand approach and, just don't understand how crypto can have value.

I have spent so many hours with people discussing crypto concepts and application, but from the get-go, I suggest that rather than talk about it, they dive in and either buy a little or use a platform like Hive to not just learn how it works, but see it in action and interact with it at a practical level. You know, where the rubber meets the road - the concept becomes reality. But because they don't, they struggle to understand it and fail to see how it can be applied to improve their living experience, their financial wellbeing, their social activity and the way the world is governed, streamlining and replacing so much of what creates conflict, causes us harm and fundamentally undermines our security from the global level, all the way down to the individual person.

Why is it so hard?

Why are so many people fearful of using crypto?

It goes beyond laziness and complacency and seems to trigger a primal reaction in us, where we just can't come to terms with this level of change. Perhaps it is that because we have become so accustomed to the status quo, that we have started to not only believe that it is the way it has to be, but that it is a natural part of who we are as individuals. To change, means to change ourselves and lose what we know to be true. This is an interesting conflict though, as it means that while we know that we aren't happy (on average) in this current world, we have resigned ourselves to it and say, "this is just the way life is".

Nonsense.

The economic conditions might leverage our human tendencies, but the current version of the economy is just that, the current version. It wasn't always this way and has evolved to be it, but evolution doesn't mean improvement and a snapshot taken right now, doesn't mean it will be the same tomorrow.

Incentives are what drive the economy, because it is incentives that drive humans. This means that a a very practical level, we are all responsible for making the economy what it is, even if we aren't the largest or most influential players as individuals. We are all participating, we are all making the decisions about the direction we go and while there are roads built to travel, that doesn't mean we are forced to drive them.

While on a transport road, crossing over the lines can mean into the forest or oncoming traffic, when it comes to economic process and digital economies, the forest is open space to build and the oncoming traffic, are the centralized structures that want us to conform, even if it is not in our best interests as a whole.

They are incentivized to keep us between their lines, but people are slowly realizing that all of these lines are imaginary restrictions and we have the power to redraw or remove them entirely. Through this, we create a base of decentralized processes that rather than becoming train lines, are more like airspace, with a massive amount of room to move, with a ground floor, but a ceiling only ever as high as our next development that surpasses the last.

We are the rubber. We are the road.
We are the force that directs us.

We should meet and go for a drive.

they are kind of expensive,in my country that almost half a Million.

what else can you buy with that amount?

you can buy a motorcycle, a tricycle popularly known as Keke nape here, and you can also buy a good phone. It will go a long way to help people here.

How many Pizza?

50 pieces of pizza

50 Pizza? Hmm, Pizza is expensive in your country.

it really Expensive, we do eat it once a while not often

thier are a lot of types of tires it best to buy one that fit you needs for drive

Safety has to factor in - especially when the conditions are so variable.

This is true. You find more people giving priority to non-essential or trivial matters. For example, you find a person with health problems who doesn't take care of himself, knowing that he is the responsable by buying cigarettes.
Do you agree with people who prefer to spend money on holidays and entertainment rather than spending for family needs?

People can do as they choose, but they should seriously consider the role they play in their own outcomes in life.

I think that many are afraid of crypto currencies because they have many changes in the market and not guaranteed or tangible unlike metals coins or money because they use it daily and have value.

it is the tangibility I think - they don't seem to get the "what" of what it is.

The world is changing but hardly are the people in it changing.

Seeing is indeed believing but sometimes, believing in something you can't see right now is the only best option you can ever make.

Having hope for a better future that you can't see today but picture tomorrow is like getting into crypto too, sometimes what the eyes see is not entirely the truth. Looking at our portfolio value rn is not entirely the true value if we don't sell it.

I don't know if the "seeing is believing" should hold true anymore, as what we see has been manipulated in order to deceive our vision and by extension, our beliefs. We need to reevaluate the way we evaluate to build a belief system.

You are indeed correct. Our belief system has been carefully manipulated in the past to believe everything we see.

A good play by the media which has proven to work countless times but I believe with crypto and true decentralization swooping in, we are building a whole new belief system based on trust, not what the eyes can see if wide open.

Dear @tarazkp , Your firm belief in cryptocurrencies is truly amazing. The world I live in is already increasing the scrutiny of individuals' property and transactions. All personal information, property, accounts, and transactions are all under state surveillance. I am currently in a similar situation as a slave.
I wonder if cryptocurrencies can give me freedom, happiness, and abundance as you claim!

i am in red and I had 2500$ worth of luna and it crashed to 3$ per luna

Dear @aiovo , Nice meet to you! I am an east asian! Where are you from?

I am from South Asia

Dear @aiovo , I am happy to meet an Asian. i want to follow you!😄

It can only help if you have and use it, can't it?

I agree with you! By the way, I always have to worry about state surveillance. If the state finds out that I am having conversations like this with foreigners like you, I could be subject to criminal punishment.

Because I am telling foreigners what the state wants to hide. My country wants to advertise to foreigners that it is a developed Western country.😅
So, if a low-class person like me finds out talking to foreigners, they will probably punish me.
They are already monitoring individual blockchain posts, internet conversations, and smartphone text messages and conversations.

I believe that my world is already becoming a communist dictatorship like China.

660€

Four tires cost about 300 Euros in my country..

Why are so many people fearful of using crypto?

Just in this morning at work people were talking how risky cryptos are. As we discussed in your previous, they still see cryptos a virtual object to buy-sell, which could make you richer in a short time (not now of course).

I have never heard from one of them saying that we will be using cryptos as a payment instrument.

these are decent, but not the latest model I think. Another place wanted 780 for them fitted.

It is funny isn't it? I was just talking to someone about this today as well - they still think it is just to buy, wait to go up and sell - that is unsustainable.

One of them was thinking to take loan to buy BTC.

A pair Pirelli tyres costs about $850 over here, if you had spent 660€ on 4 tyres, it means you have been lucky enough to get a good deal on Michelin!

Now, talking about the raw material it can be anything build a tyre from the rubber or slaughter an animal for the meatballs, the product has to finally meet the destination, be it a road or a human mouth. Anyway, these are human inventions that bring either development or destruction.

Economy is in the hands of people who are the leaders of corporate culture, 1% of the richest people have over 50% of the world's wealth according to a Credit Suisse report, and then there are those 2.5% in addition to 1%. Now, think who runs the economy, humans are puppets and club riches hold their strings. Play by their rules or they will force you to play by their rules, its simple for them.

I did get a good deal, another place wanted 780 - but a pair of nokian tyres (local) is 880 fitted. it is pretty crazy and, these are normal 16"

1% of the richest people have over 50% of the world's wealth

6 people have more than the bottom 50% - it is insane. We needn't be puppets though - we just choose it because we don't want to face the alternative of taking self-control.

I've gotten to the point in my life where I am willing to pay a decent price for good tires. Beds are the same way. Really expensive for a good one, but it makes such a huge difference in your life! This is a great time to be pumping money into the fundamentals that are going to carry us when we are further down the road!

A bed!! That is what I need. Mine is terrible, but I bought a good "pillow top" for it and it will last a bit longer :)

Hopefully that road is long enough to collect a decent amount more, short enough to enjoy it :)

Yes, I total agree with your last sentiment. Beds are crazy. You can easy drop $2000 on a good one and it seems like so much money, but then when you consider how much time you spend in it and the benefits it gives you, it's kind of a no-brainer!

Folks don't often realize the power they have to change things. Yet, change is scary and it is fear or an imaginary fear that holds them at bay. It seems the powers that run the club try to control our emotions like a puppet master moves the strings of his puppet. Unlike the puppet, we can think and have a brain.

We are in a global divide and conquer system. We have the capabilities to unite and change everything, but we end up fighting each other over the narratives fed us.

Oh haha! I'm a slow driver too after my exotic days of driving are over.

Yes, people who fear the crypto space are fully used to the centralized world. For them, crypto cannot be the change as now.

I am getting a few phone calls from so-called "BTC is the crypto" knowledgeable friends, who phone me to hear me screaming, "I'm out of crypto". Man! I find it hilarious 😆

I can barely handle the 1.04 Gs I pull in the corners ;D

"Out of crypto" is something I hope never comes out of my mouth :)

Exactly! 😀

I agree I pay the extra for decent tyres. Another tip is to order them through amazon so you can return them if you get out of date tyres from some cheap dealer.

Switching to crypto is hard probably because it turns the concept of owning your own account and content on its head. No more login and passwords with a giant evil corporation. I'm still finding my way!

It is funny. People used to order tyres online here and get them 30% cheaper delivered to the door from Germany, even though they are made locally 10 kilometers from where I live... crazy.

That's insane!

I think people's fear of crypto comes from the fact that most systems run based on the fiat system. So that means that it's an inconvenience for them when they want to use it and every extra step you add, more people will lose interest.

yep - most of the pure crypto gateways are clunky - but for the average person, the crypto debit cards should be easy enough.

People like drivers behind the wheel, or they don't like to drive at all. Why bother driving when you're going to get a ride...? Or just watch a soap opera on the couch at home, it's safer that way. !LOL
!PIZZA

It is a renter society now - no one wants to do or own anything themselves and - they will pay the price in the longrun for it.

Yes, it's true).

I wish more people saw it this way...Thanks for sharing, @tarazkp

Annabelle 😊

Tires are expensive, that is for sure.

We easily see what we want but we hardly see what we need. And sometimes we even tend to still choose our wants over our needs because of lack of self control.

I hope the message passed gets to any one that reads this.

I drive like a grandma with feathers for feet.

Laughed so hard XD

We have gotten expensive car seats (not top of the line because we don't have that kind of money, but definitely expensive), expensive tyres (see previous) and I drive like everyone else is very deliberately and maliciously trying to kill me.

just don't understand how crypto can have value

What I don't understand is why they don't understand why I don't understand the disinction between crypto and "electronic money", it's very straightforward to them (and to me basically seems to boil down to one is "government sanctioned therefore okay somehow" and the other is "magical internet money" but the first is not the second even though it is).

How have you found those discussions?

I am not exactly hard on them, since I drive like a grandma with feathers for feet. — Lol ! You are not the only one in this boat.

I reckon this is a psychological bias, where we favor "what we see" over what we don't, and as a result, take what is not in our constant awareness, for granted. — would we consider this as an opportunity cost or scale of preference? 🤔

Most people are regimented and accustomed to the usual traditional fiat banking system that they see crypto as a huge wide risk to put or invest there money in .

For me where the rubber meets the road is when one is able to adequately distinguish what one’s basics needs are from the lingering and audacious wants one desires.

We learn simple over the years that spending more on value is the best on the long run.
