New treasury addition!

Just returned home from an exhausting day of helping my mother clean up the attic in the old family house. And while doing so, I found this little gem amongst some old shit:

My initial guess was that it belonged to my father, and after asking him he confirmed it. Furthermore, he was more than happy to gift it to me!

Now, I am too exhausted to do any research about them but I think none of them is made of silver, which is a bummer. However, they are pretty old, as the label reads, the oldest one is from 1882. And they are also in pretty good condition. Not perfect, but pretty good.

My guess is there is some collectors value laying there And that coin in the middle is made of copper and imo quite sexy! Even if they don't have much value, it's neat to own a piece of history :)

I'll do some research on them and return with more photos and info about them one of these days. Also tagging my friend @funnel, maybe he has some insight to share in the meantime, since he knows a thing or two about that stuff!

Stay tuned!

When my son was little (he's older than you are now) he used to go to coin shows with his father to buy coins. These are part of his legacy now. I don't think there is anything that would induce him to sell those coins. Coins are like that...they carry history. Lovely that these coins come from your father.

Oh yes, its a very nice memento! No plans to sell... at least not for a really hefty price :D

Did you father work for the bank of Greece or did he buy those?

Asking because my grandfather worked for the bank of Portugal, and when he left they gifted him a little check purse with a tiny gold emblem of the bank for all his years working for the bank... he was REALLY proud of it, and he gifted it to me! It seems my uncle saw it and didn't want it, though it was crap... I guess some people's crap are other people's treasures.

Nah, he didn't! I guess he bought them or something, I will ask him next time I see him! You should make a post featuring that gold coin!
