Hello Hivers 🤗🌺

When I saw @rutablockchain's post I was struck by the theme of my childhood experience with money and decided to participate.

The money for the snack

I have several stories from my childhood and they all have to do with how I see money in my life today.

Of the few memories of my childhood regarding money is when I was about 6 years old.

It was Three Kings Day, I woke up and on the bedside table in my room there was a 5 bolivar bill. In dollars (following the advice of a friend named Daniel) this would be like $1.49, at a rate of 3.35 Bs. per dollar. (I think this is what an employee earns in Venezuela today).

That was enough for a lot of candy, cookies or juice.

But you know what!? I never spent them for that, because my mom told me that she was going to keep them for me to buy food 😰

I didn't understand at the time, but maybe I forgot about that money later.

When I went to school, I was already 7 years old, I went straight to the first grade because at that time preschool was not mandatory.

The school was half a block away from my house as it was in the afternoon and I had already eaten my lunch before going to class. At recess, around 3 pm my mom would come to the school and bring me a snack or ask the teacher's permission for me to go home and have a snack.

So I didn't get any money to shop at the school. And that's how it was while I was in elementary school.

When I got to high school, I started getting snack money, which I hardly spent on food or knick-knacks, but rather I *saved them and bought myself things as a teenager: Lip gloss, nail polish. I knew my mom or dad wouldn't buy me such things. When the teen magazine came out You I started buying it monthly with those savings.

What my parents taught me about money

In my childhood I heard stories of ***working to make money***. From my maternal grandmother I knew that she was a working woman, a craftsman farmer, a soap maker, a washerwoman, a craftsman. She did everything in her house.

According to the village where she lived, women would knock on her door to ask her for a chance to earn some money, which she would let them do and they would do some trade: washing, ironing, cleaning, never cooking because that was exclusive to her and her daughters. The women who worked were paid with various foods to take home.

My grandmother was an entrepreneur.

From all those trades my mom learned, so I always saw my mom busy doing something to earn money, especially with food and sewing.

On my father's side, my grandfather was in the military, which means that he received a salary from the state that I don't know about until today. He died young, so my dad at the age of 15 took care of his mom and sisters; for that he had to move from town looking for a better life.

96 sin título.jpg

He liked the trade of shoemaking, so he took a job as an assistant in a shoe store to learn. There he slowly learned the trade. *The money he earned was divided up for his living expenses and to send his family in the other town.

She then saved enough to rent a house and bring her mother and sisters.

After marrying my mother he went into the food business known in Venezuela 🇻🇪 as bodegas. He grew economically and had a well-stocked warehouse like a supermarket.

In the village they said: "If you don't get what you are looking for in Narciso's store, there is none anywhere ". Today it would be a good advertising slogan 🤭🤣

However, I always felt that money was limited at home. I would hear Dad and Mom say "Everything is expensive".

There were foods without delicacies. New clothes in December. Shoes when I needed them.

There was never any talk of investments of any kind other than what could be sold in my dad's business.

From all these stories, I rescue some things they taught me:

☑️ The power of saving to get what you want.
☑️ Setting goals to achieve your goal.
☑️ The power of consistency.
☑️ Learning to undertake.

But, there is another part to this story of money in my childhood.

▶️ In my house, money was only handled by Dad. He didn't allow my mom to go out and work on the street, although she always supported him in his business by working alongside him but without pay. So did my brothers and sisters while they were minors.
▶️ Regarding expenses or projects at home, he decided whether to do something or not.

How do I relate my childhood to my relationship with money today?

I never spend everything I have, for fear that I will miss it due to unforeseen events.

When I want to buy something I set a goal of first seeing where I can get the money from and saving if necessary.

I'm learning to invest in %-return businesses.

I'm learning to invest in cryptosystems as well.

I feel the money is not coming to me as fast as I would like 🤣 🤣

Well, this is as far as I go.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Hola Hivers 🤗🌺

Thank you for sharing this beautiful story.

It was really enjoyable for me to read.

I can relate with the grandmother story, as my grandparents are always letting people sweep their yard or wash their cars in exchange for giving them a meal.
