It's A Cultural Thing

Remember the douchebag who ran his mouth about the hot chick and told all his buddies they hooked up the other night and yata yata yata or whatever spewed from his face? Everyone knows he's all talk so they laughed it off but the hot chick didn't invite scandalous attention. She still defends herself from time to time when a nerve's struck.

I never humored him. Soon as he ran his mouth about a chick out of his league, I Houdini'd the conversation in search of new entertainment. A lot of'em were sociopaths, I just didn't respect the definition back then. A long time friend of mine is a sociopath. Back in the day, five of us were inseparable, he's one of the five. Known him more than 30 years, it's a lot clearer to us now but back then he was just Kay.

He can't tell the truth—impossible. Not in his psychie. His shoes could've cost $50 but when you ask him, he'll say $80 and fabricate a story about a department store that doesn't exist. Can not—impossible. I began keeping him at a safe distance about a decade ago, I've wasted enough time on fabrications.

I wouldn't tell you about the automated McDonald's in a Tel Aviv airport if I've never been to Israel. My idea of fast food is Subway Sandwiches but I gotta be starving and I'll only order a veggie—no mayo. Can't tell you the last time I ate at a McDonald's but I was so fascinated by the push button screens, lack of human interaction, contactless payments, and 21st century chicken nugget dispensers, I pulled up a chair and watched.

Pura was telling me last night about a colleague of hers who argued British people are more vulgar than Americans. They were referring to a Black Lives Matter protest sign in England compared to one in America. In England, the sign said:

Careful Now.. Down With This Sort Of Thing!

Same protest, same objective, the sign on this side of the Atlantic said:

Fuck Yo Statue!

No fabrication, I witnessed both

"Have you ever been to England?" He hasn't, "No but my parents are friends with a British couple." She explained her dad was British and how she's spent several months touring the UK and he's wrong. British people are proper and have spent thousands of centuries developing a #Posh way of talking shit, it's great! They've been practicing longer than most whereas us Americans are still rusty. I call it little brother syndrome—younger country starving for attention.

Anywho.. she gave up, "you're right! Of course you know more about England than I do since you've never been there. The nerve of me."

I feel the same way when someone runs their mouth about California and they've never been—strikes a nerve. The other day I was minding my own business waiting for an open chair in the salon here in Tennessee when an old lady asked "are you from California?" I nodded, 'is it that obvious?'

"Well praise The Lord Jesus ya'ain't there no'mo mmkay! We don't get earthquakes'er hurricanes'er nUthin and we're surrounded by gooorrgeous mountains mmkay cuz mo'folk pray in Knoxville than anywhere else so God protects us!"

Can't make this stuff up

Here we go again (I thought)!! She's an old lady, someones grandma, I'm not gonna argue with her so I fake smiled which she couldn't see anyway cuz I'm fashionably disguised as a make-shift surgeon, 'mm hmmm.'

I hear that shit every.single.day and we've been here eight months—240 days! If someone disagrees with gas prices at the pump in Tennessee, "this ain't California!" A 15 minute wait at the restaurant, "where are we, California?!" It's everywhere. 'Hi, do you have Coke Zero?' He laughed, "nope! We don't serve unleaded California crap."

Let me show you around, you've never been there.

Spend a week driving between San Diego and Eureka before you write your autobiography. I'll take you through fashion district in Downtown LA, some touristy stuff if you want like Sunset Boulevard or the Hollywood sign. We'll stop in Big Sur off US 1, hit the 101 north to San Francisco, wine tasting in Napa and fresh king crab in Trinidad—nightcap.

Don't knock it'til you try it. How can someone develop hostility toward a destination they've never been? I've seen a lot of headlines about North Korea, I hear it sucks over there 'bullshit!' I'll let you know what I think but only after I've been there.

Now think of all the negative sources at your fingertips about my country—America. @bulldog-joy, this is all your fault.

She told me what it's like being German in Europe. Told me about a time she and an American friend of hers plus a couple young ladies from Canada got kicked out of two Swiss bars for being German, American, and Canadian.

Anna, I care this much about heritage finger pointing based on historical events or what Netflix wants me to think. I don't know what it's like being German in EU but you know all that shit about western this and western that not just in EU but societies around the world? That's me they're talking shit about.

Don't knock it'til you try it. I wouldn't explain handling in a Ferrari or what it's like to run one through a cinderblock wall at 200 mph cuz I've never driven a Ferrari. I've never even sat in one, I have no idea how they handle cinderblock walls.

Dear American readers tuned in who despise California and have never been: Check it out first and then tell me how bad it sucks. Same to you non-American readers tuned in who've never been to America but have such negative connotation: Check it out first.

Maybe it does suck, maybe you're right, but maybe you're wrong. If you don't wanna see a buncha dudes in drag, we'll avoid West Hollywood. No stepping over junkies? No problem! We'll scratch New York City. If gambling ain't your thing we'll steer clear of Las Vegas, Reno, and Atlantic City.

But if you like Cajun seafood you should experience dinner at a karaoke bar in New Orleans before you believe what they say about American cuisine. Deep dish pizza in Chicago, that's another one. Mexican food in LA is better than Mexican food in Mexico. There's plenty of stuff to do here, it just gets shadowed by negative press. We got two Disneyland's, I don't care but some people do, Route 66 is here, tens of thousands of beaches and we gotta be the most diverse country in the world—most diverse I've been to. Cultures from around the globe settle in the U.S. just not Washington DC or Texas or Kansas or Utah. Those are weird drive-thru, political, fly over religious states.

We're not that bad, not as bad as they say we are at least. Not everyone's as cool as me but I have that problem everywhere I go. Not everyone's as fulla shit as me either and the women in America, oh man! Breathtaking.

That Blows Me Away GIF-downsized.gif

Covid compliant—Praise The Lord!

Of course it is my fault, how can it not be 😂 .

Yah it is a human thing I guess, judging, being full of prejudices etc pp. You don't have to go to a different country, it happens in front of your door. I guess in a way we all carry some of it, but I consider myself pretty much open. Do I suck now because I implement that others aren't open and does it make me complicit with being an asshole 🤔 ?

It is assholes or not assholes on this planet, that's it.

There are probably a ton of great Swiss bar owners, we just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time I suppose, so were the Canadians lol. In the end we had a great night with a mix of people from all over the world at the Irish pub and if it wouldn't have been for the assholes we may wouldn't have been drunk as shit that night 😂 .

So all good I guess.

Everything always works out the way it's supposed to. Yup, all your fault.

Well, I rewrote this sentence a buncha times just now about you suck but it just kept coming out wrong so you got this instead.

Thanks for the inspiration! All I need's a little bit and I can bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.

I'm not surprised about the Irish Pub, never had a bad time in one. Also, if you're ever in an altercation and you're an with Irish dude, relax, you don't have to anything! 😉

Yeah! Fuck yeah!! Him.

I hereby promote you to 'America's Brand Ambassador'. Don't knock it 'til ya try it should be our new official catch phrase.

AMERICA!
Don't knock it 'til ya try it!

It's been a while since I made a T-shirt, but it's been a while since I felt this inspired.

As a native New Yorker, I feel where you're coming from with people bad-mouthing your state. The bad press is really all political in nature, and has evolved into generational raci... uh... state...ism? No, that's already a thing... put a pin in that for now.

What I think is hilarious is that I've spent some time in both states, and both states seem to have most of their geography populated by people with a heavy mix of right-wing and religious ideals. Where I live in NY, this is SOLID Trump country. I'm sure your locals in TN feel more or less the same way about NY as they do about CA. Most of the families in the area where I live actually came here from TN. They all HATE New York, and California. They won't move, though, because they ain't gonna let the liberals take over the rest of the state. If you ask them, liberals run the whole state EXCEPT the town they live in.

My theory of how this happened is that way back in the 1920's when people were saying that TV would turn everyone into mindless zombies, they were right. If you like what you see on TV, you like California. If you think the stuff on TV is sinful, you hate California, because naturally that's where all TV is made. Also everything involving video is TV, including YouTube.

I've been to Tennessee. The only TV they watch is televangelists and CVS. They'll let Fox News play in the background, but you're not allowed to look at it.

Shit, I didn't mean to post all over your post, I just wanted to take advantage of being the first to reply. Now I ran my mouth so much, I probably won't even be the first reply anymore.

Anyway, what I meant to say was 'Great job, that made me laugh, A LOT!'

CAcists? Stacists? I'll keep working on it.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I responded to this one last since you stole the words outta my thumbs.

What he said

Wassup man? I'm glad this one got ahold of you, I wear a size Large, Pura's a child-medium or womens-small. Pink's my favorite coloUr (whats this place doing to me?!) just sayin.. And if ain't yours you're a sociopath!

I hear the NY talk all the time. Only thing you'll hear me say about it is there's a lot of junkies on the streets. Otherwise the food's bomb, weed's legal, cultures are plenty, oh and it'll take you 3 days to go 2.865 blocks in Upper Manhattan.

You mention California and TV. Trip out.. everywhere abroad we get celebrity status, I swear! We call it "the magic voice." No one is expecting it so when we get in an Uber for example, 'good morning!' That's all I gotta say and they instantly hear that voice they hear on TV and moods shift, tension removes and they're all eyes.. "where you from? Why you here, where you saying, oh I wanna visit California!" Here... more like Fox Noose.

They can even hear the difference between me and Pura, can you believe that?! My voice is the one they hear on TV and "Pura has an accent." Dude, she's from The Bay.

One of the other things about being from NY, is most people only understand it in terms of NYC. I'm closer to Cleveland than NYC, and if you stopped for gas around here, you might think you were still in Tennessee, until you heard people talk. Around here, people talk like they're from the TV. Western NY must be where Tennesseeans who want to look at the pictures on TV come to live. What's really, REALLY funny is the arguments that families will get in over accents, when North and South get together. The celebrity status must be a California thing. When people hear my 'accent' and I say I'm from New York, they say 'Really? You don't sound like you're from New York!' They also assume I'm carrying a gun, which is a bit like celebrity status. If I tell them I'm from rural New York... "Where's that?"

Fugeddabout it.

I feel like there's a great pitch for a sitcom in between the lines of this conversation.

I'll try to get the T-shirts going before my regular work season starts, but I can't make any promises. They may have to wait until this winter. I'm pretty sure the slogan will still be relevant. You didn't mention whether Pura preferred any color other than pink, so until I hear otherwise I'll assume that you assumed I would assume that she isn't a sociopath, so pink must be her favorite color as well.

It's not mine, though I don't exactly meet your linked definition criteria. I care about society as a whole, but I'm happy to dismiss individuals. As to whether or not I'm a criminal, that's for the courts to decide. A couple times they've decided 'yes', but they never felt it was worth locking me up over. Next time I'm in an interrogation room and they ask me how I feel about the color pink, I'll be sure to let them know it's my favorite color. Thanks for that tip!

My pleasure. Speaking of tip, anything but pink for Pura. Baby shit green, piss yellow, she hates pink. We get along great!! You really gonna make a shirt?

I just erased a buncha stuff about my longest stint—Chino. I erased it for a reason. You know, on of them joints you don't want celebrity status!

There's so many coasts to explore. I'm down to look at all of'em, Tennessee was for mountain biking.. Wait'll you see the next one. And I'll just keep running my thumbs about'em if they keep mistaken me for someone else but I just visit California now and even that's:

Way 2 Much $❗️

I feel like I may have been in the very back of your mind while writing this. Either that, or it's just my ego, but I know we've had chats about this.

If it weren't for the politics and cost of living....and traffic....I would probably really enjoy CA. I don't feel I need to have visited to understand certain policies/laws that I can read about online, and I take peoples word for it when they say traffic is a nightmare. My best bud Piter actually lived out there for a while because his wife was a traveling nurse. He said he commuted an hour and half each way to work, each day, but the drive was only like 30 miles. I just couldn't do that.

But to each their own, I say. My sincere apologies if I have come off as anti-CA in the past bud, because you're correct, I've never been. Every place has their positives and negatives, I'm gonna try focusing on the positives from here on out, for me, and for everyone.

On a side note...you still gonna be in TN in the next few weeks? Any interest in meeting up either in Knoxville or Nashville? We may just be driving through :)

I'm unloading my bike right now and stopped what I was doing when you said you're passing through Knoxville. Fuck yeah dude! Let's do this. I got a lot more to say surprise, surprise but the trails are playin my freeway jam....

There you are! In full engagement mode!

I hope that other drama stuff is leaving you alone now @regenerette. 💖

Yes, the mental "queen" is quiet for now.

You know, I was always so biased about America before I got to know some Americans - where? On Hive, of course. turns out I like alot of you. We don't see a lot of you here in Australia as your holidays are too short. The other place that's good to find out stuff about places you don't know is books - I think most of what I know about American history is from literature. But that's just me. I also learnt, in my time, just as you say - you can't really have an opinion about something unless you've truly been. I'd love to go to California. I first heard of Big Sur via Kerouac, of course. And damn if your country doesn't have the most amazing biodiversity. I'd love to go to the Appalachians.

I edited this to say: I was thinking how nice it was hearing from you on this one so I come back to tell you.

Pura and I couldn't be more in the Appalachian mountains than we are at this moment. I'm typing this from foothills. We'll likely relocate to Florida in a few months until these got dang planes get back in the air so we can get the hump outta here but as I type this—surrounded by rolling hills and green forest covered Appalachians.

We befriended about 10 people whom we still keep in close contact with that we met during our travels. Them, too, we had to change each of their minds of Americans and I'm ok with that. I even let'em know, "we're changing opinions of Americans one person at a time."

It gets tiring. It's frustrating. I know what the majority of people think who have never been to America, I read the same noose and it's too bad. I don't mind changing minds.. one day with me and all I hear'em say is "oh, I can't wait to go to America!" I get it.. it's tough not to get sucked into what they feed but my own F'ing country people?!?

We speak the same language, know the same indoctrination, judicial systems are forced down our throat, public schooling, the IRS.. we have so much in common. I'm tired of being hated for nothing.

Sorry if this got lengthy and/or 'female doggy'

img_5170.jpg

You would love the Appalachians @riverflows. You can hike from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. The total distance is about 2,200 miles. It is the longest hiker's only trail in the world.

Being that a small part of the trail passes through NJ we took advantage of it location to where we lived. Back in the day, I had a yearning to hike the entire trail, but you know what happens when you don't put dreams into motion.
Before we had our fourth child, I spent 5 days hiking the trail with our three sons. ages 12,11, and 7.
To this day, those 5 days of hiking and camping are right at the top of my list of great family times.
You would just love it. As you walk through the rolling mountains it is apparent just how old this mountain chain is. 480 million years ago some peeks rivaled those of the Alps and the Rocky Mountains.
Because of their age, the difficulty level of the trail is not as arduous as many other mountain trails. The trail is also maintained by different clubs throughout the states that the trail crosses.

So when can we expect to meet up at Sunrise Mountain? Every time I hiked the trail, I made sure that part of the hike would include this spectacular place.
image.png

So bummed to hear all this negative talk about Americans. I promise @riverflows, the vast majority of people here are good souls, at least the ones that I know.

Whilst only recently discovering your sardonic wit and repartee, I seem to have taken your prose and entrenched it firmly in my psyche.
My wife and I went to dinner last night and a quick glance at the rather upmarket priced fayre in a rather downmarket type roadside eatery had me immediately uttering the phrase; "Bollocks! Is this perchance California?".
My wife cast me an inquisitive glance. "What the fuck are you talking about?".

She is Thai, she didn't do profanity until she met me. I taught her well.

This is obviously not California of course, it's Thailand. I am not any variety of continental American, I am English but yet, I am happy to use your countryfolk's catchphrase but in a rather more ironic than literal context.

This could catch on.....

Have a wonderful weekend.

PS If that's you in the selfie, you look like a slightly tubby Elvis Costello. Jus' sayin'!

I'm the biggest liar on the blockchain if I didn't admit this was a great comment! Thanks man, thoroughly entertained. Hold up.. ima have to keep a closer eye on you. Got it!

Trip the fuck out (I'm a seasoned curser), I'm 6-1, 185 lbs so our frames are slightly off but me and Elvis Costello share the same birthday.

Can't make this stuff up

Sardonic. <-- I heard the hammer hit the head with that one, nailed it!

Good morning from wherever I am, @nathen007, pleasure to be met. Thanks for checkin this one out and I don't blame you one bit for blaming all the bullshit over there on California, everyone else does.

Leeds. Man I miss me some authentic Syrian falafel for lunch and drum n bass for nightcap. Don't be a stranger!

You share a birthday with Elvis Costello? FMB, now I'm jealous. I share a birthday with Barry Bonds :)

Cursing, good cursing, is an art form. Bad cursing has it's artistic moments, too.

California doesn't have the lead on 'bullshit price' but they have done a shameful thing in the history of earth. Some dickhead decided that a Reuben Sandwich should have Thousand Island dressing and now they all do in the whole fucking state. That might be unforgivable. That's better than 1000 miles of 1000 Island.

Perchance. I love it. I know you didn't say it, but I'm all done butting in for now...

Tom.. we go back you and I but was that supposed to be funny? I didn't laugh at all! Not one time, not even the 1,000 mile part.

If it ain't on rye with mustard, wtf is it?! <-- artistic?

No. It's not funny at all! I have used a Reuben as the measure of a new restaurant for at least 30 years and it looks to me like everybody in Cali now makes them with 1000 Island. I'm serious as a heart attack. I don't understand it at all, but I'll guarantee I ask at every restaurant now. And not just in Cali because their influence is so wide spread.

Eh, I'm with you, damn Californian princesses, what's their problem?? Too tough to get mustard stains outta their Louis bag?

!WINE
!BEER
for you

Thank you much @eii.

Mexican food in Cali might be better n' Mexican food in Mexico but it ain't better n' Mexican food in Arizona. I'm just sayin'. And for the record, the last stretch of original pavement route 66 is in Arizona and includes the Sno Cap Drive in.

California isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but neither is Tennessee. Why I have Tennessee rated number one in the nation for Freeway rest areas.

I tend to not like large gatherings of people all in the same time and place, so there are parts of Cali that I avoid, but there are parts that are among my favorites on earth. And that's just me.

It looks to me, from where I sit (near California but not in it :)) that the real problem is the dickheads in the world that talk shit that they don't know about. I don't know how to break this to you, but that seems about a damn near universal attribute. It is shit, but it is normal shit.

My problem seems to be that I sometimes seem to get myself in position where I have very limited options with what I can do with shit talkers, and that pisses me off. Some times I can't even just leave and it generally makes my ears burn. Damn sure certain makes them turn red.

The good news is that no matter whether you are in California or Tennessee that there might be light at the end of the tunnel and you might be able to escape the prison you are currently stuck in.

This was a cool comment dude, I sure do dig it when you stop by. That part about you hate to break it to me is something I should probably begin repeating over and over and over and over and....

I can't tell you how many BoMB bean n cheese burritos I've had at Turtle Beach Bar. I won't deny Arizona has got some of the best Mexican food in the country but I got this one place..... oh man, it's tough to beat! On 2nd and Boynten in downtown. But like saying so-in-so is the best quarterback in the NFL—top 5's close enough.

Some of my best memories and that's not an exaggeration happened right there at Kokomo's. Only memories better than those were at the sandbar. Did 10 days in tent city (let's keep that one between us) and I still got nothin but good things to say about Mexican food in Az and know why that's significant?

I've been there

I learn a lot as I continue engulfing myself in these cultures Tom. The differences here are minor in comparison to abroad but they're still here—no doubt! Judging me gets old, it's always the old people too that I'm not gonna push the issue with. But you know what the deal breaker is, sir? You can't get seafood here!!

!!!!!!!!!

No way! I didn't know that. I had to learn that for myself. Brother I can't stay anywhere that doesn't have seafood.

Hello buddy, how the heck have you been?
When you get a chance, let Pura know that the following retort,
(Anywho.. she gave up, "you're right! Of course you know more about England than I do since you've never been there. The nerve of me.")
was a great answer or should I say comeback?
I'm sure that shit flew right over his head, and a smile ensued because he was thinking, I can put that disagreement in the victory column.

"Well praise The Lord Jesus ya'ain't there no'mo mmkay! and whatever else she said, I have no idea what point she was trying to make.

Skip a visit to North Korea.
People have such a hard time not having something to say. Most people are experts on everything and the less they know the more they think they know.

I must say that it is refreshing to hear someone with enough sense to realize that there are two sides to every story, as it is all over the world, give examples of what makes this country we live in a very special place.

"Not everyone is as cool as me", can you imagine if that were the case, people may be settling down to play a game of chess to settle their differences instead of blowing each other up.

Peace!

My man! Only great if that counts, I hope this finds the farm well.

You know if there was a badge for comment king they'd be sizing you up for your award right? I saw this comment about an hour ago but was in the middle of breakfast and I ain't putting down the fork when I got fresh sweerup on hand!

Thanks dude! What a surprise that was. I emailed you a couple times, figured you're probably doing anything other than technology. And thanks for the reblog too.

I'm the first to point out flaws here, I point'em out anywhere but there's good in everything, Sweed knows that. Doesn't matter what it is, even death, there's good in it somewhere.

Chess-off's! Genius! In case of a draw we'll have a rap battle and if the crowd is still undecided.... Bong-off's!

I'm glad the syrup made it before you decided to change your location.
Forget about e-mail, the dam thing hasn't worked properly for the past month.
You know that tech and me just don't get along. The funny thing is that I can't open it up on the desk top, but Robin can open up my e-mail on her laptop, but any attachments will not open.
Mystery to me, its got to have something to do with our computers as the e-mail that you have for me was created for business, and our son has no problem with it at all.
I can't remember the last time I read a reply from you that didn't put a smile on my face or had me laughing.
When I get this e-mail straightened out, I'll let you know.
I've been wanting to open another e-mail account for a few years now and this may be the time to do just that.

Bong-off's that may be a way to settle disputes without all of the bullshit.
I can't remember a time, when after a good smoke aggression pursued.

Peace my friend.
Got to get ready for a 10 o'clock appointment with the dentist for the next round, double root canal, 2 posts and caps. Sounds like a great day.

Eat first!! And have a cupboard fulla sooouuupp!

Good day to you @dandays.
Just for the record, I love California, although I have not been there in years. When we were there we traveled the entire coastline , just breathtaking. It's on the list to get back there. I have a cousin who lives there and keeps asking us to come for a long visit. May be in the cards soon.

Why do you think so many people have a bad taste in their mouths about the USA? I think we are pretty cool.

Why do you think so many people have a bad taste in their mouths about the USA?

You don't really wanna get me started do you?

Wassup farm-mom? Where does your cousin live? You've driven that coast then, you know. I have plenty of bad things to say about everywhere I've been, WAY more good in Ca than bad it just bothers me when I hear how terrible it is from someone who's never been west of the Mississippi.

•coffee

I'll start and stop on coffee. You asked for it. They think we're a buncha spoiled brats who have been force fed immeasurable amounts of nonsense we don't need our entire lives, therefor we expect to have and will purchase everything we don't need at our fingertips and impose that will into others when we're not at home. I didn't believe it when they said "we don't change our oil like Americans" when I never one time saw an oil changing joint in Europe. Imagine that.. think about 'that' for a minute. No Jiffy-Lubes, Speedy Oil Change, etc. etc. etc. etc. So I researched it and learned even big Navy carrier ships don't change their oil. They just clean the screens. Anywho, coffee (an entire aisle at Target):

Everywhere else you're lucky if they have one light and one dark, usually just one or the other.

...I wish I were in another front-end, looking forward to just stake my POBs. They are still continuing the drama though I haven't engaged with them in 2 weeks, tokenizing on @regeneratte and using that to farm comments and tokens, Today I gave an answer but things stink in POB lately: https://ecency.com/hive-150329/@juanmiguelsalas/how-important-is-the-real-part-of-our-lives-to-answer-arguments-on-a-platform-like-hive#@regenerette/qrsapx
