How blessed are some people, whose lives have no fears, no dreads; to whom sleep is a blessing that comes nightly, and brings nothing but sweet dreams.

- Bram Stoker -

It's the early hours of Sunday morning right now and I'm having trouble sleeping...it's not unusual for me I guess, but I've had several days in a row of bad sleep and it's beginning to catch up with me, ND not in a good way. I've been having bad and weird dreams when I manage to fall asleep so either wake right up with a start or don't feel I'm getting the rest I need. It's, not a good situation but one I've had before and so I'll just push on and through it knowing it'll straighten itself out sooner or later.

I've been laying here thinking, as I often do; I have one of those overactive minds that is rarely not thinking and has trouble switching off. Do I overthink things? Yeah, I'd say so, but it's worked (generally) so far and it's difficult to teach and old dog new tricks, even a G-dog. So, I've been thinking about Sunday and what I'm going to do with it for the last hour or so whilst trying to get back to sleep.

It's winter and we're only a few days past the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Winter here is fairly mild with a cold winters day being around 12°C and average days being around 15-18°C. We're lucky to get a lot of sunshine though, even though the air is cool, and that means it's often suitable for being outside. That's what I have planned for Sunday; a walk.

I'm going to head down to the beach and go for a walk as the weather is supposed to be reasonable, a shower or two is possible but it'll be mainly blue skies according to the weather boffins.

My city has a lot of coastline and most of it looks like this image which I took at a beach called Brighton about twelve minutes west of the city. I think Brighton is where I'll go Sunday and I'll walk north from the jetty to the Glenelg Jetty just over four kilometres away. There's a nice coastal path and it's an easy walk. There, I'll have some lunch at one of the many places to eat then walk back making it a decent days walk of almost eight and a half kilometres.

I enjoy walking like this, the fresh sea air and open spaces relaxes me and I think that's what I need right now; the monotonous act of one foot in front of the other. I'm hoping it'll help me sleep better on Sunday night as I have a big week ahead at work; meetings and all, with one of them having the potential to set me up for the year as far as my budget goes. It'll be a solid working week ahead so some sleep would be nice and I think a decent walk and some fresh air on Sunday will help me find it.

I hope y'all are having a great weekend so far and have something great planned, even if it's a basic walk like my own I'll take on Sunday. Feel free to drop me a comment and let me know what you're up to, or what you'd like to do.

Hello hello! May you have today and every day as beautiful and sunny as the one in the photo. It is so important sometimes to get out and clear your mind to be able to charge yourself with new energies and good thoughts that prepare us for what is to come. Much success always!

Recharging with new energy and thoughts is exactly what I intend to do today. I've not slept well, and feel untested, but I'm going to get out and walk and see if I can find that peace of mind aim looking for. I hope you're having a good weekend.

I hope you were able to go for a walk, clear your mind and sleep well at night. We are all, exactly all of us, living moments of much chaos and many changes. Listen to music while you walk and to sleep you can listen to music with frequency 852 or 432 Hz, this helps to change negative thoughts for positive ones, to control anxiety and many other things. I leave you a link:

I hope to know that soon things have improved. Greetings...

Thanks for the links, I'll check it out. I appreciate you taking the time to drop them.

I hope they are very useful to you, it really works for me when I am very anxious or thinking about something. untitled.gif

Sorry you are having trouble sleeping. This post says it was posted 2 hours ago, so hopefully you are knocking out some Zzzz's by now.

That is a beautiful photo. I can imagine an area so beautiful will make for some very happy walking/thinking time.

I suppose by the way that you are telling it, that this has always been an issue for you? I had some BP meds, well, that is what it is frequently prescribed for, but for me it is suppose to have some sort of protective qualities for the kidneys for folks like me with diabetes. I originally was taking it in the late evening, but found that it kept my brain going after bedtime causing me not to be able to drop off like normal. Once I figured it out, I changed to take it by noon each day and it has worked much better that way. I don't notice it in the day and at night, I am once again ready to sleep as usual.

I hope your Sunday turns out as pleasant as you hope.

Yeah, it was around 3am my time and it's now just 07:30 Sunday morning. I managed to get some sleep but now don't want to sleep in too much as I'll not sleep later tonight.

I used to love sleeping and then I guess things happen in life and sleep is difficult to find or is not that restful place it used to be. I make it work though and will eventually get so tired I'll sleep through for a couple nights.

I'm also diabetic and an on pills for the same reason you are, among others. I've been taking mine in the evening but hadn't thought it may be effecting my sleep. I'll have to do some research on the medication and see if it's a side effect of that pill.

Just a thought, even if your research doesn't indicate sleeplessness is a possible side affect, common or rare, it is always worth an experiment with it anyway to change it to earlier in the day if that does not cause some other sort of issue, just to make sure. Since we don't always react the same to the same meds, sometimes we have to conduct our own trials... 😄 💊

I've been a lab rat before, might as well again. Hmm, lab rat or test monkey, not really sure which. One of them for sure.

Hi @galenkp , it is very unfortunate that you can't sleep, as sleep gives the body and brain time to recover from the stress of the day. When we have a good night the day is better for us to make decisions because we are more alert and in good spirits and so we can have a better relationship with people. I think your decision to walk outdoors tomorrow Sunday is very good, I'm sure it will help you 🙏.... I advise you to do deep breathing therapies in your bed before going to sleep, try to put your mind blank and not think about your next day activities, it works wonders for me!!!! I hope you have sweet dreams from today🙏.🌹 . Excellent WEEKEND...🙌

The deep breathing idea is a good one. I used to do that sometimes and found some success in it. I had some failures also which is why I stopped. It might be a good time to start again and see if it will work.

Thanks for your message and I hope you're having a good weekend.

🙏 👐

I read your post and like you I don't sleep well, I work 8-10 hours a day at work and then at night I work here in the hive platform and not only, and my sleep hours are on average 3-4 hours a night.
Once or twice a month I get tired of the last and actually sleep for 10-15 hours at a time without waking up, this usually happens on weekends, I try to remove everything that could disturb me.
You are lucky that you are very close to some amazing areas where you can quietly enjoy them, as I saw from the picture that pontoon leading to the open sea, and especially that in winter you have such high temperatures.
I can't complain about the relaxing places because here we have hills and mountains where you can certainly relax, but winter is a fairy tale with snow and temperatures of 5 degrees and -15 degrees depending from winter to winter, no two are the same, because of climate change, everything is not like before.
Cheers bro!

Yes, it sounds like we are the same with sleep patterns. I used to be able to sleep well but I suppose life-things happen and changes how we are. I have trouble shutting my mind off.

The mild winters here suit me fine although I'd like a winter wonderland of snow now and then...although having to dig my car out each morning doesn't sound like fun. 😳

Sorry to hear you are having trouble sleeping again. I hope the walk and sliding the meds earlier will help. It is worth a try and it will take some time to get the body in line with it.

I like to try to get an extra walk-in to tire me out if I am unable to sleep. It works like a charm for me. Okay... I walk until I am exhausted which probably comes faster for me.

I will be walking on the beach, then heading home from the Shore. Work for some of the family on Monday! :)

I've got a lot happening at the moment, much on my mind, and I guess with a few other things that tips me over the edge. I'm trying to get on top of it but it's slow going. I'll survive, I always do.

Thanks for your message, as always.

When i have insomnia and general problems with sleeping, i immediately start a fasting! One or two meals, low calories, no junk food, no sugar, basic vegetables and fruits! Every time this works for me! Nice post in any case!

Hmm, ok I've not heard of this although the foods we eat can have an effect on sleep so I guess it makes sense.

Still think you're an ADHD case ;D Does melatonin work for you? Have I asked you this before?

Walkies are almost always good, hope it was a nice one and that you have less insomnia :)

I'm not ADHD.
