Oh How I Love To Play With My Favourite Tool

I love a good tool, living as I do, I use a lot of tools. My life is very hands on and I do most of repair jobs in my home, as well as doing jobs on the land as well. My favourite tool, is really one, that everyone needs. Well especially if you live an outdoors lifestyle.

Can you guess from the photo above, what it is. That's me waving it above my head. (Well my shadow). It was gifted to me on my birthday, a few years ago, from a very dear fried of mine and it is one of the best gifts that I have ever received.

My Amazing Japanese Saw/ nokogiri (鋸)

I honestly use this saw almost daily and have had to replace the blade twice now. Luckily my friend hails from Japan and visits there usually once a year to see her family. I saw her partner using one a few years ago and fell in love with it.

This saw cuts on the pull action, instead of push action like most other saws. It cuts so well, I mean look at those fine teeth up above. It's like cutting bread, it cuts that well. I use it for pruning, or cutting canar ( which is the cane you can see in the first picture of the saw). Canar is great for making fences and I have used it to make many a fence.

I use it a lot when I am harvesting olives, as we often need to cut away branches. I have also use it, when I am working with wood, making shelves for the inside of my truck and also for the couch I made. It cuts so nicely and with so little effort and it is really lightweight. I also use it to cut firewood. I have become quite attached to that saw and I will only let others use it, if I am present. Others meaning, very close friends.

One of the biggest projects I have used it for, is the Compost Toilet that I built a few months back. I had a friend who was helping me and he used power tools, whereas I used my saw. I used it to cut through some pallets, that I used in the frame of the build and also for cutting left over planks , that we used in the top part of the toilet.

I know that power tools are faster, but I really prefer to use hand tools, if I have the option. It's much more enjoyable for me and I am not so much of a fan of the vibration that comes from using power tools. I find sawing through wood, to be very meditative.

On top of it, I also feel like a bit of a ninja, with my nokogiri in hand!

A great tool. I would say that this saw "cuts a hair in the air"

It does indeed @tony1294, thank you xxx

Nice work, I'm using a regular Axe but want to get one of those Japanese variants.

I think we're all going to want one now.

#sawenvy

you should get one, it is amazing xxx

I've got a thing for cutting tools because, cutting tools. What's not to like.

This is pretty cool and I like that but cuts on the pull-back not the push which I think would lead to a little more precision? Maybe you can confirm.

I like this saw and I wonder if I can get one here. My sister in-law is Japanese though, so I'm sure I can get one sent from Japan if needed.

Thanks for your great post and have a good weekend.

Yes I should have mentioned that in the post, because of the fact that it cuts on the pull back and how fine the blade it, it is makes a very precise cut. I would highly recommend this saw, especially if you like to cut stuff lol.
Hope you had a great weekend xxxx

I'm going to make some enquiries with my sister in law to see if I can arrange one down from Japan for me. You made me need one. 😁

Yay, let me know when you get it and enjoy xxxx

Japanese saws are the best! Yours is a handsome one. Does it have a name? It also looks sick and I bet it makes quick work of everything you need to cut. I'm waiting for a Ryoba that should arrive sometime soon.

Yes I have to agree with you there, I don't want to use any other saw.
You know I never named it, it's just my kick ass ninja saw lol xxx

Other saws are too messy. And fair enough with that name. 🤣

Great for the old security as well I'd imagine. 😀

One must have such a thing for just this purpose.

I have my hurley stick for that, it's stored next to the door. Can't get much better than that I think xxx

Great work. they are awesome saws indeed.

I've tested the toilet, and it's approved by me!

Also that machete is gonna become very handy once the zombie apocalypse has started.

Cheers Ed xxxx
and yes it has many uses indeed, got to be ready for the Zombies xxx

The saw is amazing as you have said😁.

That's a really useful tool for sure! I love saws like this that are multipurpose. You did a great job on that composting toilet, it's awesome.

Thanks so much @emma-h, I really enjoy building stuff xxx

I inherited some of my Dad's hand tools and I get such a sense of accomplishment when I use them. From a hand auger to chisels to fold out wooden rulers to hand planes to draw knives, they are fun to use.

Oh wow, yeah i feel like it's way more personal using hand tools, if that makes sense. What wonderful things to inherit. Cheers @thebigsweed xxxx

If I took a thousand guesses, I'd never guess your nokogiri 😄. I get how you feel though and why you feel that way about a tool. Amongst others, it just makes your work swift and enjoyable. It's like how caligraphers can get obsessive with particular pens.

I like sharp knives and can get annoyed when my kitchen knives go blunt. I dunno how people manage... by this, you know I can relate.
