Dissociation From a Surplus Artist

Every night I watch him from the window as he stands pondering the moon reflection upon the river. He stands for as long as possible breathing in the scenery, he then closes his eyes and starts painting it with his mind. He adds and takes out things with his mind. He continues to paint with his mind as he never dared to buy any tools. He continues until a mysterious shadow shows up behind him, he then tears the painting in his mind then walks away. -@amirtheawesome1

It seems trivial to speak about prompts after reading such a story. You go to a dark place, deep inside the psyche. It beckons, and seduces, and demands obeisance. Our protagonist will not be free until he doesn't need the trash heap anymore. A brilliant story. Thank you for posting it in The Ink Well community. -@theinkwell

World in Suspension

I began to hear the distant sounds of birds, of the variety of apes and other jungle dwellers, the thumping of the boat against the water, strangely united with the sound of the engine. After a while of silence and contemplation of the sober but imposing spectacle I began to perceive a lingering conversation, a rhythm of words never heard before, a soft and continuous way of speaking where no one word sounded louder than the other. -@gracielaacevedo

It is with great pleasure that I read your description of this place and these people out of another time. As I read your story, Borges came to mind and his reference to Guaraní in The Library of Babel. There is a timelessness in that story, as there is in all his stories, and in your story.

I saw in my mind's eye the world you described. The pictures are wonderful. Perhaps sometime you will write an essay (probably not for Ink Well) about the experience of taking these photos. You know we have a book review community. That might be great. -@agmoore

Castles in Whose Air

“A food scientist”, replied Anokhi. Her brain had already jumped a few thoughts and she had gone from fitness trainer to nutritionist to food scientist. “A food scientist with her own restaurant”, she added. “No, a food scientist with her own cafe which is also a library where people can sit and read the whole day if they want”, she amended. “No - okay, last one - a food scientist with a Michelin star restaurant that also doubles up as a cafe and library where people can come for speciality brewed coffee, a curated book section and in-house designed stationery for both kids and adults. -@manouche

Wow, I love this, @manouche. Thank you for sharing it in The Ink Well! Anokhi and her daydreaming and love of books filled my heart. I wanted so much more for her than becoming a side-kick to her brother! They have a very special relationship, and it's wonderful that one of their dreams comes true, but it's a small tragedy that her aspirations are not realized. This is such a great example of world building. I was truly transported by all the lovely details and your beautiful writing style. Well told! -@jayna

The Empty Horse

A few days ago, he had gone on a hunting explorer with his Stewart and man-at-arms, along with some of his close friends. They had gone in search of something just beyond the borders of the kingdom. It was not an unusual thing for the nobles to go on such quest. It happened all the time. What was unusual was that neither the Prince nor any of his friends had returned. And entire team, had simply vanished. -@ubani1

Enjoyable story, @ubani1. It nicely builds suspense as we wonder what could have become of the missing prince! -@theinkwell
