Teaching my wife to OneWheel

Helmet shopping

My wife injured her ankle a day after I ordered her OneWheel Pint, so she hasn't been able to ride it. But today, she said she was able to walk normally, and she wanted to try it out.

But first we needed to go and get her a helmet and some pads. While we were in Target, she found a sequin helmet that she had to have. Hopefully she doesn't ever fall and scrape up her helmet, because that will make her cry if it gets messed up.

After we got her protective gear, we went to a nearby parking lot and she started to learn how to ride. She has ZERO background in skateboarding and snowboarding, so she was not used to balancing on the Pint at all.

We spent about 30 minutes with her just holding onto my arm while I guided her around on it so she could get used to the feeling of how her feet were supposed to balance. After that she was scooting around like a pro, sort of.

I don't think she went over like 3 mph today, but she has gotten her turns down and was able to circle the building a few times without falling.

She did awesome today and I am sure after a few more sessions like this she is going to be comfortable enough to start going faster. My son is a lot more comfortable on the Pint and he just takes off and zooms around.

My wife asked how I make it look so easy when I am riding and I told her that I am not scared to fall and I know I will at some point. I usually fall at least once a day on my OneWheel, mainly because I go crazy and usually go top speed on it.

Earlier today I was going pretty fast and started to go up a hill and nosedived the OneWheel and it sent me shooting off of it. Luckily I was able to outrun the nosedive and didn't fall because that could have been pretty bad. Both my elbows have scratches on them and my knees are all scraped up and scabbed from falling, but I know it's all part of the process. Falling and getting back up and pushing harder is what I have always done while skating.

Soon I will be shredding the neighborhood with my awesome wife. I think I might need to add at least one more OneWheel to the family so the kids can come with us.

Your wife is really brave for not giving up after her first fall. Most people do give up!

Glad you survived that fall with only some scratches! Falling on the asphalt with full speed is the worst! hehehe!

You will soon roll with your wife and it's gonna be awesome man!

She was pretty impressed with herself yesterday. I am gonna take her out again today and hopefully she keeps getting more and more comfortable on it. It is gonna be a ton of fun riding around with her.
