Playing Control Light for fun!

Greetings everyone,

So last weekend event went pretty normal to me, nothing too special I was able to get only 9/18 wins due to different factors of me doing mistakes, being unlucky with cards or matchups. However, ever since I got more time to play the game now I have been enjoying varying between decks and enjoying the game and recently I saw a control light deck that have been played a lot and I never tried control light before so I decided to give it a go.

This deck was originally created by a player called Ryhan who is the #1 in the world currently but it had some very expensive cards, but it was passed down among different players where most of them made their own versions of it without the cards they do not own or can not afford. So I basically did the same I took the original one and created my own affordable version of it and tried it out for 10 games and here is how it went:

The Deck

So this is my own version of this deck, I had to replace some expensive cards with cards that I think are the closest to them. The deck is based on stalling the game as much as possible, which you have a lot of cards for this purpose and finishing the game at the end with the couple of strong creatures that you have. I will also be explaining the roles of some important cards for players who never saw such type of deck before. But first of all let's see the results I was able to get in my 10 games with this deck:

Matchups Results

I was able to get 8 wins out of the 10 games I played which is pretty nice which goes to show somewhat that the deck is decent. However, the real challenge is always in weekend ranked games so this can not be 100% accurate of the deck effectiveness. Now let us which cards I had to replace and what were my replacement choices:

Original Cards and their replacement

So this deck basically 3 very expensive cards that I did not have 2 copies of the same cards and 1 copy of a 3rd and these cards were:

Demogorgon replaced with Cyclops Defender

 "replacement 1.png"

The demogorgon makes a lot more sense here of course since the game is all about stalling and the demo with his sleep and leech is a beast in doing that but since I do not have him I decided to go with Cyclops Defender to have a strong frontline that can help me stall the game more so this was my best choice in this case for this one. Not an ideal replacement but it did pretty decent.

First Highborn Knight with Kadmos, Son of Lysander

 "rep 2.png"

The Highborn Knight is an excellent card in this game with his protected and ward it is so hard to kill. But I had to replace it with another good close to 4 mana frontline creature and the most logical card was Kadmos. He did pretty decent except with Light Levy against Light, but it was my best option in this case.

Second Highborn Knight with Guild Enforcer

 "rep 3.png"

Now the second Highborn Knight replacement was the guild enforcer. The Guild enforcer is a great card for defending your face and it was logically to me the best replacement in this case and it also did pretty well. I do not think it was better that Highborn but still it did the job.

Now let us talk more in details about the roles of some important cards in this deck:

Game stalling cards

As we said before this deck is all about stalling the game and making your opponent board stuck, and this deck shines in doing that due to these several cards:

Lips are sealed

 "lips are sealed.png"

This spell is excellent in making your opponent creatures get stuck on board by giving them so much order and rendering them useless. This is the first piece of the puzzle and an excellent card for stalling from mid game.

Censure

 "censure.png"

This card can be used on two annoying enemy creatures that you think might cause danger to your face, can be used in early, mid or late game as well which makes it very versatile and effective in this deck.

Line in the sand

 "line in the sand.png"

This is another great card for stalling your opponent. It can guarantee you 1 or 2 turn of the opponent creatures stuck on board to make your opponent board wider and then get rid of them with order or with the following card.

Lysander's Mercy

 "lysander.png"

Now after infinitely stalling your opponent with order, can't attack and when his board is pretty filled up this card is almost like a rest button to the game and makes you get rid of his creatures and start the game from 7 mana where you start to shine more.

Now after all this stalling and getting to late game, all that is left is the final blow and the game finishing cards which are the following:

Game finishing Cards

 "finisher.png"

These are basically the 3 creatures that will help you finish the game and deliver the damage to your enemy but mainly all the power relies in Archpriest of Parthene with all the order you inflict on your opponent he will b a monster unleashed when you play it.

Now the final piece of the puzzle in case these creatures did not do the job by themselves or in case the stalling cards were not enough you can always have a second third and fourth chance because why not? And this is done use these cards

Revival Cards

 "revival.png"

These card will allow you to restore either stalling cards with the Radiant Embalmer or creatures with both and also making them stronger with the Inescapable Duty in case things did not go as planned which they do sometimes!

Final Thoughts

I can see this deck being very solid after trying it for having a lot of potential to reach late game safely as well as the capability of restoring cards from your void many times which can serve a great purpose on the outcome of the game. I still do not know if it might be weekend rank material especially now with the Aggro Light decks being out there. If your opponent was smart he can just fill board without empowering his creatures and that might cause trouble for lips are sealed.

But overall this deck did pretty decent and most important was very fun because it does not resemble to any old decks I have played before. It kind of remind me of board wipe Death when it was still very much played with all the sleep and stalling to late game then finishing your opponent off.

That was it for this post, hope you like the deck I highly advise trying it out it is much fun and does not cost a lot to make and if you do be sure to let me know how it went and be sure to drop a follow if you like these posts I always try to combine between fun decks I try and weekend rank ones to bring the best of both world! Other than that I wish you all a great rest of the week and see you on the next one!

Mad Love, Peace out <3

Nicely done! I'd have to find a sub for Lysander's mercy, but that is a critical card.

I'm sure you had fun but your opponents didn't haha, I hate going against Control Light :P

It is fun not in weekend rank though or when wanting to climb because it'll take forever :p
