As a new user, I think solving the lack of accessibility to mainstream users. I am not stupid and have reasonable technical skills (due to my day job), but I have found it tough to join Hive and navigate the platform.

I am coming most recently from Medium, which by comparison is simple to signup for and use, even for dummies.

I appreciate that Medium and Hive are too completely different things in terms of technology and structure. But at the end of the day is the common theme of users.

Hive wants and needs to be able to attract good content creators who are not technically equipped to deal with the current onboarding process.

To achieve this, there needs to be a clear, clean front end that people can find and navigate and easily join up.

Hive.io is perfect, but once you go beyond that and click "Join Now", you hit confusion straight away with eight different registration options.

For someone who has no understanding of blockchain this is totally confusing. The suspicion radar goes up straight away and you start to worry about being scammed if you pick the wrong one. There needs to be much better upfront guidance on what these all mean and why there are eight of them. Remember you are dealing with people who are used to one easier registration process on Facebook, Twitter, Medium, Amazon, etc.

No matter how good, interesting, exciting Hive blockchain is, you will drive a large chunk of people back to centralised platforms straight away because it is just too confusing. The basic truth is, despite all their flaws, people trust centralised bodies. For Hive to be a genuine success, these issues need to be addressed.

On the positive side, once you get onto Hive and PeakD specifically it starts to resemble something much more familiar. And from that point you can get involved as much in the blockchain side of things as much or as little as you want.

If you just want a good platform to get published on, then you can do that. If you want to collect Hives and make money you can do that too. If you want to get involved in the technical world of Blockchain you can do that too.

But you ultimately have to remember that 99% percent of people on Medium/Facebook etc don't care about or understand Discord channels, Forks, witnesses, etc etc.

They just want somewhere to be social. So to get them here and make Hive blow up, it needs to have 2 layers. One that looks and feels like Medium/Facebook, then the rest that the current early adopters can continue to use with all the rest of the "blockchainy" stuff

Definitely agree with the problem on the page for account creation. I think when you click "join now" you should be directed to a page with only two options:
1- Get a free account, but it might take a week to get approved.
2-Buy an account(cheap) to instantly use HIVE.

Once the user selects one of the options he then goes on a new page with the different possible services that sell accounts.

Other issues are harder to solve, and probably need video tutorials for wallet downloads and how to use them. It is doable though and definitely can be integrated down the line.

I am sure that the devs have thought about this but they are swamped at the moment. The chain is not even two month old.

Everybody I'm trying to bring in from mainstream find it too difficult to onboard, too much information being dumped on them at once (FAQ right after the onboarding) and finally, difficult to communicate with one another without a third party service like discord, telegram or something else.

Also, when it comes to cashing out, you have to have some serious patience and for the uninitiated could take them a week or more to figure out.

The hive fund: inefficient , may take months before funding starts, when funding starts late partial funding may not result in what had been proposed because of not enough funding, funding can end at any time (no guaranteed funding over the period of time), disagreements on what the worth of development work is(hint: we wouldn't be here without some guys and gals stepping up big time when it counted...)

New devs: having a very hard time getting their proposal funded because they have not established "trust" first.

Disagreement on rewards: new flag wars once Hive hit 5$+ (xyz is earning more than me even though my development work is so much better! I will flag his every post for $-150 until he quits...)

Greed and feeling entitled.

Spammers and scammers not getting dealt with efficiently.

Remaining on the same stagnant path that Steem was in its last year before full centralization. After all this airdrop deal and initial pains are over, I hope we start having serious discussions about the changes required to make Hive even more distinguishable from Steem.

Lack of adoption and engagement.

The more people engage on the platform the more it's likely to grow as more people that join the platform stay for longer.

Losing momentum in respect to innovation and development.

Further devisons, HardForks, without new users onboarding. Making a small community smaller up to point when its irrelevant and most have found better options.

Good Question! I see that DPOS has taken a new shape after the fork. We are getting a lot of opportunity to experience the obstacles in DPOS, specially concerning democracy. Apart from the very common name, I don't think branding and marketing should be a problem. What about developers? There are tons of decentralised products and services that we could build. I haven't been seeing any proposals, which concerns me. I am trying to on board developers for a while. I think a possible failure would be that newer blockchains could have better tech and then be faster and more scalable. I don't think that will matter much due to the nature of the witness pools as hive is scalable too. A lot of people I talk to in the space are looking for newer blockchains with crypto for their DAO's or Dapps.

Dear @mahdiyari,

As mentionned below, I believe there is too many voting circles and not enough curation efforts towards smaller content creators that get discouraged.

Also, except in some communities, the level of interactions is quite low and should be improved. I like as much a very good comment than a good upvote in $.

I also wanted to make sure you were aware of the newest community focused on Crypto on Hive. It is called HODL and is aiming to reward underrated Crypto content creators.

The most support I got was from smaller Hivers. You can read more below and be part of it now.

Best,

@hodlcommunity

The excess of greed, lack of vision, ignore to the community that aren't big stakeholders or simply lack of the capacity to onboard users as dalz commented are imo very real possibilities. Another thing that arseniclullaby commented and I agree with is the difficulty to retaining users if they are discouraged.

Censorhip(if happened), Not supporting new users, communities or small stake holders just like SteemIt. Comparing with SteemIt however Hive is way better than SteemIt now.

Voting Circle, Censorship, No New Development etc

I was going to express my opinion, but I agree with the opinions of those before me. We must try not to make the same mistakes as Steemit and in this way we will surely succeed!

If Facebook comes out with some kind of similar system i.e. LIBRA then I see that for HIVE its gonna be a big challenge.

-Not user friendly enough Dapps for mass adoption/lack of network effect.

-Overtaken by a competitor framework for Dapps like Holochain which is not even a blockchain but is also decentralized in a different way.

-Massive controlling stake that centralizes voting is a situation that keeps occurring disproving that DPoS works long term.

-Other possible DPoS failures, like Facebook hunting down top 20 witnesses to avoid Web 3.0 (yes, very creative scenario)

Important to note, scalability is not an issue with the RC system, it is actually better for the price if HIVE is not a scalable blockchain. The more people want to use HIVE the more scarce RCs become and this is what will drive the price of HIVE up (aside from speculation). If however, the blockchain is infinitely scalable, then RCs will never be scarce and people will just delegate them for a very low return because of infinite supply. As HIVE scalability increases, the price becomes more dependent on speculation only. This would be good for the world(censorship resistance, internet currencies with SMTs) but would be bad for investors specifically in the HIVE token. However, different SMTs can have different tokenomics which can always lead to good opportunities for investors.

Dear @mahdiyari,

I guess most of the answers were listed below circle voting, not enough comments/interactions and lack of curation to newbies.

The most "funny" is I got most of the small delegations from community smaller fishes.

@hodlcommunity

You can read more below and be part of it now, we are waiting for you.

Did it solve all the problems that were there on steem? The answer is no.
Or are the developers even trying to solve those problems at the first place , absolutely not sir.
I am not a bad wisher but it has all those reasons to fail...

Hive is yet to solve any of the problems steem had. It's discouraging for low HP users. Many good contents are left unrewarded and average ones over-rewarded. The communities havent solved any issues. Just a little while before it gets centralized completely. And maybe there will be another fork. Who knows.

There are lot of user onboarding issues. I've been working in crypto for 4 years and just joined today and I can't figure out half the content that has been thrown my way as a new user. There are too many options for each step given to you. I like the idea of decentralized blogging but it is a lot to take in. Unstoppable Domains launched a decentralized blogging feature you might want to check out, would you be interested in making a blog there? https://www.coindesk.com/unstoppable-domains-launches-censorship-resistant-blogging-platform
