Drawing studies on Procreate

My long break on digital art should be over by now. I've been having a lot of self doubt, disappointment, apart from the massive burnout and art block in the past few months. It's not easy to find the momentum to go back to the thing where you started as I was surrounded by fear and a lot of self criticism.

Anyway, to slowly go back on that, I need to do some digital studies since not drawing for a long time can kinda make you forget some of the skills learned. I started looking at other artists' works as well and observe on how they draw and paint human anatomy and I wanna level up my art.

I will be taking some online courses on light and color theory to expand my knowledge on the subjects. Even though I "know" how to draw, I don't think it's "proper" since I don't really follow some line techniques for sketching. Practice will make it better but if you're practicing with a technique that's not consistent like what I do, then it's gonna take a while to learn something lol.

I want to refine my style to be more consistent as how I want it to be. I can be really impulsive at times hence you see all those expressive lines in the work. Sometimes, I'm more careful and prefer detailed works and that's why my style can be a bit inconsistent though still recognizable. :D

Face study.gif

Here's a gif for the process of the face study. I actually expected myself to struggle in this one but I actually enjoyed it. Given that I've never drawn faces for a long time, it's a surprise that I didn't struggle but I guess the lighting of the subject helped a lot. This is my impulsive side and I finished for like 15 minutes I think.

I also did some figure studies. This I'm more careful with and I actually prefer my impulsive side. 🤣

I guess I'll just have to combine them both nicely in a work - some parts with the "ragged" and some parts with the "clean" side.

Meh I should really get out of this perfectionist problem of mine which causes me to procrastinate a lot. Doing studies help though.

These were done on Procreate app using the iPad Pro 2020 12.9".

Beautiful sketches with procreate, it has this real traditional feel.

Yeah these traditional brushes are really nice :D

These studies are simply stunning! I hope that you can refine your style as much as you want because your art is already amazing so I can't even imagine how amazing it will be when you reach your full potential! ❣️

Thank you! Unlocking full potential has always been my goal :D

In my not-artistic eyes, these are stunning! 😍 Love it!! Super!
I love how playful their poses are too!
The expression on their faces are something I like, even when you covered some, my imagination’s running wild free 😁
It’s nice to take classes to improve your craft. Gotta keep learning 😉

Haha yeah that’s also my goal, to show emotions even without showing the faces. I guess that worked :D I always think that the moment you think you already know “enough” and stop learning, skills become mediocre. Lol

That’s true! And that’s the same for everything, I think. The world is evolving so we should not stop learning ☺️

Wut? 25 minutes for that face? Whoa 😲 that looks really easy but I know it's hard. Artist are really thr coolest. This looks super awesome, like on a 100% professional level 😲🤩

Thank you so much :D

But still it turns out beautiful artwork dear. I am actually kind of envy you for having such talent.

Thank you!

You're welcome 🤗

Wow. Nicely done

Thank you!

Oooooh how good that you dared to draw again! I understand how you feel hahaha these last weeks I have also had the urge to practice nsfw art XD, I feel that the portrait has a resemblance to you and the other two practices wooow the work of shadows and lights is great, besides you use textures similar to the one I love 😳 greetings, I hope to see another illustration of yours hehehhs

Hahah what’s stopping you with practicing nsfw art? It’s always nice to do that to learn anatomy🤣. Yeah the reference photos are myself and I have specifically put the light source in one area so I can easily draw it. Would be really nice to draw these without references but I’m not training my eyes and hands with that yet :o

You are doing really good. I'm sure it will get better with practice, but you have a talent for art and it's permanent. The fact that you can draw this in 15 minutes shows that. I've seen some of these on your twitter account and they are really impressive.

Thank you incublus! :D

My god how expressive this is. I love it 😍 I also draw on procreate and seeing this is so cute . I should try sketching too it looks liberating. I congratulate you it is beautiful

Thank you! It is so liberating haha :D

It is always great to see yoyr process. Very inspiring. I love your brushes, BTW. It's so nice how you have achieved the same texture with both digital and traditional art.

Thank you Alejandra! <3 These brushes are so good actually and I've been using it since 2020 both on Photoshop and Procreate since I can import there also. :D

Great sketches🥺
Tbh I don't know what you want to learn again 😂, your awesome 😎

I want to learn more on drawing from imagination and not relying on references too much. Practicing on color theory is so important as well. Thank you! :D

I see, well I'm not an artist so I won't know😂
Goodluck 🤗

Once you realize that you're meant to excel in life and achieve greatness, you know that you're going to be packed with a burden that is greater than yourself. I believe in you.

The woman next to your stand at Focus Art Fair told me that your technique was superb.

One thing I know for a certainty; your painting at ART BOOM looked like a digital piece of work. I DONT KNOW which is harder. Creating digital paintings as if they are the real deal, or making real paintings that look like digital pieces of work.

My perfectionism cost me a lot, in terms of time, money, and health. You wanna know what I did? I started to change my perspective and treated every stage as an unfinished/finished piece (to fuck with and confuse my perfectionistic brain). Just so I could learn how to appreciate -every tiny bit of the entire process-, this left me no choice but to love and appreciate my own work (which was eventually the real challenge). Now... when I look back at my work, I'm actually surprised that I took some of these photographs, proudly surprised. Almost in "disbelief" that "I" did that... It's weird. As a piece of me from the past did that.

You got this... TELLING YOU AGAIN: I believe in you. Friggin' genius.

Really dope studies

The result ended really good! you should be proud!!
